Newbie at making money via email, Any Help?

Hi all,

I have been a lurker from time to time but never posted until now. There is so much knowledge on here I never felt I had much help to give, or any direct questions about my previous ventures. I have made money online for years done some affiliate marketing, but mostly selling products on a few websites I have built, facebook page stores and ebay. I have learned how to promote the products relevant to my selected niches and done fairly well on a few ventures but always go back to biz op as it has made me lots of money.

Anyways... I have acquired a fairly large email list of people whom have spent anywhere from a few bucks to a couple hundred bucks on home based business related services, information, DVD sets etc... I have never done anything via email and my question is now that I have this list what would be a good way to make some money with it. I was thinking about trying to find an offer to email them, create an e-book or video series... Problem is I do not even know where to begin or who to trust with my info. Would anyone be generous enough to offer up some helpful information? I do not even know how to start the process which I assume will involve finding a company to send the emails for me? Also if I am emailing someone elses offer to my clients how do I know I am truly being paid for each conversion? I know these probably are dumb questions but I have zero experience with making money via email lists.

Thanks in advance for any info and possibly I could return the favor if anyone needs help in other areas of earning income online?

You'll probably want to start with a reputable email sender like Aweber, Getresponse, Mail chimp etc. I use ActiveCampaign personally because it has a drag-and-drop email sequencing interface.

It sounds like you were given this list from a third-party, so look into Canspam regulations on mailing them in the first place.

You will likely have to warm them up by giving them something of high value, perhaps a five step guide on how to save big on home-based business services. An email mini-series could also do the trick.

Think through your monetization strategy before you start writing anything. Email autoresponders aren't like social media where it's okay to come up with something from the top of your mind each day. Not for the best results, anyways. A well put together series has an overarching plan that is pieced together, email by email.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the response and helpful information.

After I posted I read my post and thought that "acquired" may lead some to believe the list was given to me or I purchased it. Perhaps accumulated would have been a better way or saying it as these are people that have purchased offers I put together online in an effort to generate sales leads for my reps to call by phone. I was lucky enough to have a good tech guy that worked part time with me for a few years who helped design the offers and he suggested adding a box for them to click giving my company permission to send them newsletters and "special offers" in case I wanted to use them for this purpose. Unfortunately he passed unexpectedly so never got to work with him on email but since they have agreed to that I was under the impression that I am legal to email them?

  • Hi DesertBilly,

I think a good way for you to monetize your list is to go for an email marketing software. As what Sean mentioned here, you can have choices such as Getresponse, etc etc.

If you don't have a budget yet to pay for monthly fees, you can go for a free subscription plan from Mailchimp. All you need to do is just save your subscribers and design an email for an email series to be sent to your list. Make sure these are interesting and at the same time something that could benefit the people you are sending to.

You can incorporate links on these emails but make sure you give your subscribers some value in every email that you send them. Otherwise, your mails could get ignored and unopened.

    Regards!
