Best Way To Organize Mailing Lists

I recently opened an account with GetResponse. I plan on using it to manage several different lists in different niches, with some that will overlap a little bit.

Has anyone created a "system" of the best way to organize/name the lists? I thought I saw a post once about someone using a number code when creating the list but I can't find it now.

Thanks,

    Thanks,
    Behaviour.

Segment your list by most recent behaviour.

For example those who signed up from a homepage squeeze could be named "Homepage Squeeze". Those who you acquired directly from sales might be named by product eg "Product X Sale". And so on.

In this way you will be able to segment and precisely target your emails differently to each grouping and thus increase your relevance and results. For example your email sequence to the group "Product X Sale" could be a series focused on cross-selling them Product Y.

For those in "Homepage Squeeze" you could focus on giving them a deep discount to purchase Product X, for example. When they have bought their most recent behaviour means they automatically go onto the "Product X Sale" list and thus are then fed the appropriate email sequence focused on selling Product Y. And so on.

The more you can segment your list on differentiated behaviour the greater control and influence you will have.

    Good luck with your venture.

That sounds like the post I was looking for. They had a spreadsheet with all of the lists and used the row numbers from the spreadsheet as a number code for the mailing list.

The more I think about it, it might have been Chad Nicely mentioning it in one of his webinars.

    Thanks,
Number coding your list is going to confuse you like crazy when you're emailing your subscribers daily.

You can mistakenly can send a email to diiferent niche list if you don't remember which list belongs to which niche.

If you're talking about segementation then segment your list based on buyers, non-buyers, active, inactive. Also you can segment them based on the topic a subscriber likes the most.

Like ZanyZebra said just create a progression of lists. I am fond of double subscription when it comes to having a support list for a product. That way they could be on multiple support lists (IE they purchase different products) but they are on only one money list.

Just never send an offer to a support list. Or if you do keep in in line with a business format.
