Do people really Hate Pop-ups!?

They say that you should respect your website visitors, earn their trust and improve their User experience.

But it seems there is one form of intrusive advertizing that really annoys people - Email Pop-ups!

However the irony is that most bloggers and web marketers say that Popups Work!!

It seems to be true because you are literally trying to monetize every single visitor that comes to your website.

For me i'm still confused wether to put Popups on my blog or to simply keep the optin in the sidebar. When I'm on my laptop popups don't annoy me much but, when i'm browsing with my mobile, Popups feel so darn annoying.

I would like to hear about your opinion on them

I personally don't like pop-ups especially if they just out of nowhere blocking my vision out of a great post. However, i think there is a way to get past this annoyance. If the pop-up appears after some delay especially after reading a post, there's a high chance I would click it and opt-in my email.

I think it is better to have a form in the sidebar and after a post instead of a pop-up, especially when it comes in an urgent call to action title.

Again, this post comes down to simple marketing.
Do you think people would use pop ups if they did not make money?
This goes the same for people who don't believe spammer make money.
The day spammer stop making money will be the same day that the 50 billion messages that are spammed every day will end.
Its all a numbers game, people don't use techniques that don't make money.

I have never responded in anyway to any pop up other than just deleting it out of my sight. They are annoying but ignoring them has become such an automatic response that I never give them much thought anymore.

Keep in mind most people who "ignore them" are people who are educated and aware of the effects of online marketing styles.
Put everyone else in the "status quo" box, and happily let them continue to make you money on advertising methods that are so old, stupid and blatantly intrusive.
I also run a call center, I can give you thousands of examples of this every day.

Most visitors will only come to your website, read you post and leave... you don't get anything out of them No(Shares, Subscribes, Lead, Sale or even a simple Comment).
think Popups could work especially if delayed!

Some people hate them more than others. It doesn't change the fact that they work, and they work well.

Much of the hate towards pop-ups comes from the entrance pop-ups that pop-up before you even have a chance to read anything on the page. I think a lot of this can be fixed by using exit-intent pop-ups, or pop-ups that only pop-up upon reaching a certain spot on the page (like the end of the article.)

Pop-ups do not have to be annoying to be incredibly effective.

We recommend using time tracking pop-up to get some potential leads for your product or services. It might be annoying, as soon as you visit a website through a google search, you start getting pop-up for submitting your email ID for getting a weekly or monthly newsletter in such cases visitor might get frustrated and close the website without reading the content on the website.

By using a time tracking pop-up, when a user is engaged in your informative article or blog, show them the pop-up which can help to get more such information every month in their inbox. This will be an effective way to capture details of your potential lead without annoying them.

Note: Keep your newsletter widget visible and eye catchy to website visitors.

Yes. The most obnoxious ones are those that force you to click on something like "No, I don't want to make tons of money" to click out of it.

Instead of popups, why not use content upgrades?

I personally don't use popups and instead of that, I use content upgrades. A CU is a relevant lead magnet that you give with your particular content (post, video etc.).

So instead of giving everyone the same lead magnet with a popup, you give a relevant lead magnet with the post that the reader is currently on. Now you have a higher chance of getting the email of this person.
