Emails ending up in SPAM/Promo folders in Gmail since early APR 2016

I am sure those reading this is experiencing the same issues.
My open rates have dropped by 50% and the entire affiliate marketing community is affected. At least the ones I know.
I am hearing Gmail has changed their algorithm and stuff and aggressively filtering SPAM emails.

Here are some of the folks that has been affected:
1. Those that put in affiliate links on their email and it goes into gmail spam.
2. Those whom whatever they send out with or without links everything goes into gmail spam.
3. Those who send out emails with affiliate links that gets put into the promo tab (this one isn't so bad but still hurts deliverability rates)

Does anyone have a solution to this? Any tips or advice?

  • Send emails that contain content your subscribers really want to receive. They will hunt it down regardless if it is in their inbox, promo tab or spam box. Also let them know how to white list your email address so they don't miss a single content filled email you send them.

  • There's no doubt that some affiliate marketers are just downright annoying. They bombard their lists which in turn, prompts the likes of Google and other ESP's to take action. As Rob mentioned, inform them on how to whitelist you. You can do this on your Thank-you page if you want
  • I think gmail by now is near next to impossible to inbox unless you have built it up over multiple yeas and have been contacting your list for just as long.
Google is punishing people who are trying to bulk them now, it was only a matter of time.
I doubt there is a long term strategy to really inbox google well, due to how they are structured and how they are able to monitor so much mail ongoing.
