LeadMagnet - high optin - low opens

Getting great optins (cpc/conversion%) for my leadmagnet bribe.

However the very first email that I send out for them to receive the free LM bribe only gets 50% open rate for some reason.

I ran a check of my aweber account and 50% of my optins NEVER opened a single email.

What are things I should be doing to diagnose why people are opting in but not opening any emails?

      50% of my entire list has NEVER opened a single email ever... not even the one they signed up for to download the free product I send

        Here are some things that might help:

        - As soon as someone opt-ins for your lead magnet, make sure the page redirects to clear instructions which urge your subscriber to check his email immediately; this is the best time to get your prospects to open your first email as it’s still fresh in their minds.

        - Also tell them to check their spam folder as their free gift might have accidentally winded up there, and provide instructions on how to whitelist your email address as you'll be sending more useful info in your next few emails.

        - Have a compelling subject line so that your subscriber can’t help but notice and open your first email; in fact, compelling subject lines should be a rule for all your emails.

    Make sure you tell them after they enter their email to check
    Their junk folder, that could be one problem. Also, try to mail
    Them again to see if you have any better experiences.

    This is the nature of email marketing, especially in the MMO niche. If 2 people out of 1000 open your emails after the second week you will be doing well.

      Sorry but that's a load of crap. If you're only getting 2 out of 1000 you're not doing it right.

      You're either sending people to a vague squeeze page or not very interesting.

      Case in point... Sometimes I'll sign up to a list simply due to curiosity. You know the kind...

      I'm happy to take a peek due to the vagueness because you never know it might be something I can learn from.

      However once I get the welcome email and it introduces me to Wealthy Affiliate or Empower...

      I'll never open another email from that person again.

      Is your freebie something that they simply can't live without. You need a hook that once they read about it they've got to have it.

      Is your landing page targeted? If you've got a list building freebie based around Craigslist - tell your prospects.

      Sure you might get fewer subs but they're gonna be higher quality and more inclined to open your email.

      Test your subject lines, and take Daniels advice above... Tell them what to do next when they subscribe.

      Sure you'll get some people who'll never open your first email. It's the nature of the game.

      I mean some people will even pay for a product and never even download it.

      But I can guarantee you... If your freebie is something that really hits a pain point your subs will be sitting there refreshing their inbox until your email arrives.

    50% is not bad (in general).

    You have to remember that most LMs are utter crap, and people know it. Thus the semi-curious will sign up just in order to check. They then unsubscribe (or worse, they don't bother but simply consign all your following emails into their spam folder thus affecting your delivery rate)

    However, need more info in order to advise.

    Specifically, how many unsubscribes occur with the first email?

    Does your lead magnet actually solve a problem the subscriber has? Does it also hint at additional problem solving techniques that you will be sending them? Do you use cliffhangers in the emails you send to make them want to watch for the next email?
