You can also host your own offline, in-person events like meetups, conferences, hackathons, educational panels, etc., and collect registrations online using email addresses.

    I have a few to add from various trials and tests that I’ve carried out over the years so I hope you don’t mind me adding to your list

    Encourge forwards.
    Add a ‘sign-up’ button to your email and encourage your existing subscribers to forward to their friends. This way they are doing the marketing for you by choosing an appropriate audience who are likely to join your email list too.

    Revive old lists.
    If you’ve got a group who haven’t interacted with you for a long time, send them an email with a promotional offer and offer to unsubscribe those who don’t respond. Depending on how god your offer is you should hear from a few. While it’s always risky to offer unsubscribing people, it also helps to remove ‘old wood’ and ensure that your list is of quality not quantity.

    Add links to your signature.
    Add an automatic ‘join us’ link to your email signature. People can click on it and easily enter their details within a matter of seconds.

    Free offers.
    Offer an eBook or ‘cheat sheet’ in your area of expertise. Anything that can make people’s lives easier is guaranteed to bring in the email addresses!

    Add opt-in’s through other mediums.
    Add an email signup box to your direct mail campaign or social media posts. If people like what they’re reading they will want to continue on their relationship with you.

    in my view the "offer" is the most important aspect of building an email list. no matter how we follow the rules to build the list if the offer is not that great some people will unsubscribe. What i find to work for me is to offer a service. Will are willing to optin when you offer them a service they would have to pay to get. Ofcourse future upsells should always be in the same niche.
    You offer them a service you are sure they will be needing on a reguler bases. so the first one can be free but they get to pay to continue benefiting .

    • Adding a link to your employees' signature that will lead people to a landing page where they will be able to sign for your mailing list.
    • Work on running a promotion on partner website or email newsletter that will target new but appropriate audience so that email addresses can be collected from a fresh source.
    • Host a co-marketing offer with a partner-like ebooks and webinars and tell them to promote the registration to their audience. Once it gets released, swap the leads.
    • Host an online webinar and this will help you to collect email address at the registration.
    • Host your own offline, in person events like conferences, meetups, educational panel, etc. whereby you'll be inviting people and collect registrations online using email address.
