Email Marketing Question

Hi, Im new to email marketing. i was wondering what causes some emails to be delivered by an autoresponder service and not others? For example, say you are emailing your 500 subscribers a newsletter and only 450 receive it ....what would typically cause this issue and how do you prevent it. Im currently signed up with aweber. So I hope that this is not an issue with them. Thanks

When you speak of delivery, are you asking about incidents where a provider(s) are actually not accepting a message or that it fails to inbox?

I'm going to assume that you are asking about inboxing, please let me know if I'm wrong.

If you want to ensure you are inboxing, you want to start by knowing the make up of the domains in your list and which are the ones that drive the greatest revenue. Those that drive the greatest revenue are going to be the most important that you inbox.

Once you know this, you should be seeding your lists with email addresses that you own, that from the domains where you are deriving the greatest revenue. Then test your message before sending using your seed list and see if they are inboxing and also seed your actual mailings with the same seed list ad check the results of it as well.

When you test and you have a message that fails to inbox it will probably be because of 1 of 3 reason. Maybe there is a setting problem...SPF is failing, rdns isn't set up, etc... Maybe there is a reputation problem with the IPs or domains that you are using to send with or any that you are linking to. Lastly, there could be something in your content that is causing it.

Going over how to determine what is causing the problem is beyond the scope of any post, but there is a systematic process to it. However, knowing the make up of your list and seeding it and testing your messages is the starting point, so that you will know when a problem exists.

Please don't think that just because your using an ESP that you are immune from inboxing problems and you inboxing 100% of the time, as that is the furthest from the truth. So regardless how you are sending your mail, you should be seeding your list and testing.
