Let inspiration hit you. Look around your own business and see what you'd like to talk about. Subscribe to other companies newsletter and see how they do it. Find out what you like and what you don't like. Establish your goal as well. Do you want to inform people, promote your latest products or both? Also, keep it simple and short. People tend to have a limited attention span. If your email is too big, they'll dismiss it.

Personally, for inspiration, I'll keep a list of questions people ask me about my products and when it's time to write my newsletter, I look at the list and see which question I'd like to answer more deeply. Then I look at my products and see which one I could promote that would fit with my answers. I add a my latest product and voila!

There are also consulting companies that could build your newsletter for you. eFlyerMaker is a good example. You might want to check it out. It's not that expensive.

A good way is to sign up to other people's lists and tweek the swipe to suit you please never copy word for word an email doesn't have to be long winded at the end of the day you want the subscriber to open your email if your getting opens your half way there

    • The best practice, and by practice I mean the best way to make sales using emails is focus on stories. You can't swipe or even copy (frame) your emails after someone else's. Email marketing has become personal, not generic. If you think of your favorite radio show, most people love them because of the host. Treat your emails like a radio show and make sure you have a call to action in every one of them.

As far as ideas to write one email per day, just use your everyday life. Things happen everyday that you can use to tell a story and connect it to your product or service. People love to hear stories, it allows them to get to know you, and escape their lives for a short amount of time.

These is defiantly a long topic - hope this helps ya get your feet wet and make a few sales.

Hey, I think I'm on the right path now. I took a couple skillshare courses on email marketing and finally feel extremely confidant with my email writing. James Canzenella is a great instructor on skill. I started watching a lot youtube videos on email marketing too, especially andre chaperon. That man really lit a fire under my ass) I know I'll progress little by little.

If y'all are so confused on what to write to your subscribers, why don't you just focus on pushing affiliate offers that are related to your niche.

Most mail friendly email marketing networks will have pre built creatives where you can copy and paste the emails to use and send them out to your subscribers.

At last, by doing this, you can begin getting some revenue coming in. It might not be the best way to engage with your customers for long term subscribers but it sure will help to grow out your bottom line.

I really hope no one actually goes out and does this.

Using swipe files 9 out of 10 times will not make you money, unless your list knows likes and trusts you.

      Here's why...

They're usually badly written and don't convert well at all. And, with swipe emails you're not the only one who can use it. Every other affiliate can use it aswell which will make you look less credible.

    Hi Irn,
Are you asking because you're an expert in the field and want to offer advice?

I really struggle with the length of my emails. I know everyone advises to keep the content short and sharp, but coming from a writing background I just don't feel like short emails offer enough (free!) value.

Is there a specific word limit you would recommend or does this just depend on niche?

Hi far from an expert but I know enough to make money from it, the length depends on the point your making... As for subject get the open a subject that creates curiosity

I think putting up an enticing email subject line is one of the most challenging tasks our marketing team faces while executing an email marketing campaign. Email subject line should be as such so as to compel the readers to open the email and read the body. Since, email subject line is directly connected to email open, it is one of the biggest challenges we face.

    Hi,
For the moment, I am struggling with keeping my one-email-a-day promise. This is something I am working hard on, but on most of the days I am short of ideas.

I think I should start planning emails one week ahead. May be write the next week's emails in the present week and even if failed, try to cope up with the left-out work during the ACTUAL week.
    Nice question btw.

    Thanks

Hello, how much can I expect to spend on ads to build a list?

Also, which is the better way to go for a new list, one email a day or doing long sequences of stories like Andre Chaperon's style?

    Hi Friends,
I am working on email marketing since last 3-4 months. The main issue I am facing is with its speed of sending emails. I have tried two different email servers but not succeed. I am unable to send more than 5K emails per hour while I want to send 50K per hour.
I also tried with two different email database associated with single server but not work.
Another headache is Google's email spam algorithm. It has an endless list of spam words so it is very dreadful to convey a message for subscriber especially when we are sending promotion emails.

I guess the main struggle is to keep the trust alive with all your subs. I often find mailing regularly a very difficult thing to do. And people tend to forget you if you dont mail once every 15 days minimum.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[10830310].message }}
  • For ad spend to build a list depends on platform - we run mostly FB ads and get $2 leads all day. You do need some type of marketing/sales funnel to recoup the ad cost, but this can be as simple as a capture page and emailing them everyday.

As far as email style - Auto responder vs daily emails totally depends on you. We have some funnels with 10 sequences and some we just send daily emails to.

If you are only mailing your list once every 15 days you might as well quit - they will never buy.

There are different struggles for different people, because different people have their own strengths and weaknesses. The first big task is building the list and I feels it might be the one that would require the highest amount of investment be it time, resources or money. But some people get it right with ease while others have a very hard time. It's usually about your brand and value proposition.

The next big task, is finding a way to send mails that get into people's inboxes instead of spam folders and promotion tabs. It's more of a technical issue and might require hiring a good service provider.

The last crucial task is writing high quality copy that would help your campaigns convert. If you had the quality content to get the emails in the first place, you should know your audience well enough to present them with something they will actually be interested in. Spamming never really works, especially on a high quality list.

Email subject is always a big mystery for me. Especially ,selecting attractive keywords always boggles my mind. I try to solve this problem by searching up blog titles of similar content so it gives me a little edge when I'm trying to organize my thoughts.

My biggest struggle is getting my open rates / click rates reasonable.

    Here are my last statistics

    6.43% opened 64 unique / opened 74 times
    936 not opened
    1.206% clicked a link 12 unique clicks
    0.402% unsubscribed 4 unsubscribed
    0.5% bounced 5 bounced
    0.1% marked as spa

Any this was just my first introduction email, with just one link in the signature.

Any suggestions on how to improve this?

    Hi there,

The main struggle is having them really open and read the emails.. I mean, we engage in this activity because we are looking for sales just by sending out emails, but if they don't open or even read it, it's a heartbreak.

Thus, as an email marketer, I always make sure I provide quality and valuable content with an interesting title. It may take time, and I may not be able to send more than before, but it helps me garner sales.

The main struggle for me is always at the start, where your subs don't know anything about you yet and you don't have any authority. You'll see a lot of unopened emails during those times. But when you start to filter out the inactives and slowly build your active fans, it gets more encouraging and easier from there.

As far as what to write...it depends on what you're trying to do with your list.

If you're just trying to make affiliate sales, after writing and sending thousands of them, just take an email someone else has sent out and make it your own. after doing that a while you'll just simply be able to do it.

search here if you don't have any to model after: Email Spy Tool |
(one word works best, stuff like azon, kindle, affiliate etc...)

some emails will suck and some will do well, you never know. but honestly in the end, all you're doing is placing an affiliate link in someones inbox, the more you place the more money you'll make.
