Long story short, I had an email list with aweber but I lost the account because I forgot to change the payment method and didn't realize it till months later. Lucky for me, I was able to download an csv file from my list building app.

I'm going to upload the email list unto aweber...the thing is, I changed my site name but the niche is still the same.

So, how should I go about re-engaging them without being sent to spam? And I don't want them opt-in again or should I?

I have no idea how to edit my first response. So let me start again.

Test it. But this depends on how old your list is. Generally, a list degrades at 25% per year. Leads within the 20 day old spectrum might remember you best - if you've bonded with them really well at the beginning of the relationship.

    Suggested Test:

Test A - Resend an intro message telling them who you are, how they got on your list, why you haven't been around for a while. Then tell them what's going to happen moving forward. Give them a really good reason to stay and be engaged.

Then take note of your stats: Open Rates and Unsubscribe

Test B: (Sorry, i hit enter too soon)

Have the same approach to test A when it comes to the copy, but this tell them that you truly respect your relationship with them and explain the recent changes. And that if they want to continue to get awesome content from you, you want to ask them to optin to "yourawesomelandingpage.com"

And as a bonus, if they do want to continue their relationship with you, you have something special for them once they optin... something like that.

There's another process you can add to the mix of test. But this should get you going towards the right direction.

Hope this helps. Please share your results here.

Send them an intro message informing them about yourself or your company and how they got on your email list. Ask them if they still want to receive updates from you.
