Best way to filter old emails/bounces?

My company owned a list of about 250,000 gamers with about 10,000 of those actual paying monthly subscribers at one point in the past 5 years.

We currently email our other lists using amazon ses/email octopus and do very well.

My problem is filtering out the 250,000 emails so we only have active emails/no bounces

Adding the emails to email octopus and filtering out bounces would be too expensive because the 250k emails might cut significantly as they are anywhere from 2-5 years old.

What the best/most cost efficient way to go about this? I've heard of services out there but they seem very expensive for the task at hand. Also, partnering up with somebody would require me to give somebody access to the emails which is what I'm trying to avoid.

Any help would be highly appreciated,

    i recommend you to get a custom built server to clean your list. after cleaning you can use that with amazon ses.

    You can do it, but you'll need to buy as many IP's as they offer and then program the validation service, which requires a lot of parsing and in different languages to know which ones are really good or bad.

    You'll end up getting greylisted or blocked between 5 mins and 24 hours per IP - Your code will have to know all the greylist and blocked terms to parse them out. And once you detect that, you have to swap ip's, until you run out. Then wait before re-validating the ones that didn't validate.

    If you don't know the greylist/blocked terms there is a good chance you'll get that IP blacklisted/spamlisted at that ESP.

    250k emails will take a weeks/months to validate with a single IP at some ESP. It really depends on the make up of different domains in the list.

    Never validate from the IP's you're actually sending from.

    You need to send that list to an email validation service, it won't be 100%, but it should be 98% or so using a good validation service. We have our own we built, works out well for us.

    You have to find out bounce emails and delete them from your list and then start again mails. And also you have to find who are opening and clicking you can also make list of them too.

    I recommend that you reconfirm your list before you use it with MailChimp, or clean it with Microsoft Excel before you upload it to MailChimp.

    I just ran 50,000 emails from an old list through a checker, downloaded the cleaned list, then sent them using Amazon SES using sendy, and there weren't too many bounces. I can get details if you like in the morning, when I start my main PC up,
