How to monetize 250 000 highly-targeted email addresses

Hey guys,
I'm coming from an app development background. Some 4 years ago, we created several mathematics apps for iPhone and Android.
Combined we have several million users. About 250 000 allowed us to send them promotional offers and news updates.

Until now, we haven't leveraged this opportunity. That means, the only thing we sent them was the "thank you for subscribing" message.

We know very specifically what these users are about
  • Nationality: 50 % US, 20 % UK, 20 % DE
  • Gender: 66 % are men
  • Age: 60 % are below 30 years of age
  • Extra: we also see everything else Google Analytics tracks

My question is: How would you approach monetizing this list?
I thought about sending affiliate-products or trying to build up a topic-related forum based on that user momentum.

Best,
Michael

i suggest that you give them something for free first, like a promotion or something else.... continue like that ... and after weeks send them your affiliate products
    good luck

  • I suggest you creat your own product with a membership site and sell your courses in the niche you have, this could be very profitable if done correctly

Since the only email you sent to the list was the "thank you for subscribing" email, which means your subscribers don't used to get email from you. In that case, you have to warm them up before monetizing the list. The objective is to make them know you, familiar and trust you. Once that are established, the sky is the limit. You can monetize it with any means (as long as it is legal, ethical and something that you personally tested before recommending to them in the case of affiliate products)

To build up your credibility fast, you can host a short live webinar by giving the opportunity to your subscribers to ask you question about math. Besides webinar, other alternative is to have a section in your website that give them a chance to ask question, something like "Ask Me a Question". Send an email to them to announce what you have to offer and it is free of charge. Remember to include in your email top section to remind them that they received your email because they downloaded a math apps in the past.

I'd also suggest you to prepare a series of email which provide tips for educational purposes about Mathematics. The key here is to firstly make yourself known and remembered by your subscribers.

      Hey Jinmin,
that's a incredible post, thank you so much!

After warming them up, what would you recommend selling to them primarily? I'm having a hard time monetizing the warmed up list .

Since you said you have a mathematics app, i would suggest you create an upgrade part of the app with additional features that is not found in the free app. Then you can ask those interested to pay in order touse the upgradable part.

I've been monetizing data for over 16 years.

Since they were initially interested in a mobile app. I would initially stick with that vertical as a means of reintroducing yourself to them, so that you maintain some congruence.

Mobile app offers isn't my forte, so I can't make any suggestions as to networks / offers. However, with a little homework, I'm sure you can easily come up with a plan. There are plenty of popular apps that are free to download.

When you initially contact them, I would not make it come off as salesy. Word it in a way so that it sounds like your just sending them a transactional message / proving them with an update.

I would definitely get the data cleaned by a reputably email hygiene company.

Depending on how the mobile app vertical is working, I would then consider testing PPL (pay per lead) offers.

Send them emails like it's a Solo Ads, to subscribe for different topic niche, tech-related.

Then segment in different lists the people who answer, and create different funnels for selling affiliate's product.

As your list have some subscribers who have downloaded the mathematical app, i suggest to warm up the list, get their attention first.

Let them remember that they receive messages because they downloaded the app. You might expect a few higher complaints first.

As Jinmin stated, display a notification message (usually above the fold).

Thank you for all the great answers!
I'm struggling basically with one major point:

Now that I have all these warm leads, what can I offer them / how can I find out?

PS: I freely offer rewards/affiliate provisions for your generous help and am willing to share revenue with you guys!

    Hi,

    1. Get a VPS or dedicated server with atleast 16 IPs

    2. Install email marketing software on it

    3. Setup Postfix mail server, it is free

    4. Setup IP rotation

    5. Send a soft introduction email reminding people who you are and how they subscribed to your app. Make sure to mention your app so that they recognize you

    6. Warmup ips and things with your subscribers, offer them some free offers or tips for few days.

    7. Now you can really start pushing some soft offers every few days until you start doing it every 2nd day

This will slowly and gradually build up relationship with your list
