Help Wanted: Need some helps on ESP migration.

EMAIL MARKETING

I am going to work with my client to migrate their data from one email service provider to another, but, I have zero experience about it.

So far, the only questions I can think of are: 1) What're issues that I would face during the migration? 2) How did you handle it (them)?

If these are not the right questions to ask, please show me the really problem(s) I would need to handle and watch out. Very appreciate!

Hi there!

I am not sure if this is helpful or not, but to switch your ESP and migrate the data (the email list) you need to Export the list first into a csv, I believe that every ESP has that option. Once you exported that list you can Import it into the other ESP. Usually every ESP will first have to approve the list and check it through, making sure that it is not some kind of purchased email list, because that could hurt their reputation. Does that answer your question?

  Thanks for your info, I actually look into some ESPs found they all have the import/export via CVS file function, but after I across some website, I found that there are some articles mention the migration process sounds to me have a lot of pain. :-/

  I know that Pat Flynn definitely knows what he is doing, since he is a VERY experienced and known internet marketer. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how much of an issue this is going to be for you, since it depends how large the list is, how responsive it is, how you got the email adressess etc.

  Oh, sorry, I missed some detail info in my question. They have couple email lists, so far, I know is that the one they want me to try is about 10,000. And all the contacts are signup from their website. (subscribers)

  And from which to which ESP would you like to switch? I don't think it should be that big of a problem, since they are all subscribers through the website that actually agreed to receive additional information via email. The ESP where you are going to import the list will check it and might filter out the ones that are inactive or not valid emails.
  
  Just give it a go and see what happens After all your clients can still keep the current ESP!
