List building E-books just a rehashed product??

Was collating some research last night on a popular PLR site and came across about 30 books all about List building!! and all recent in the last 6 months , so thought I would open some discussion on the subject

If you write your own product an ( E-Book ) on list building are you just rehashing another persons product that you purchased also so you could learn yourself on how to build a list so now you have written your own E-Book does this make you also reselling rehashed product? Or Original...!

( no product in the works )

Doesn't the answer depend upon the person writing? You can't make blanket statements about the knowledge, experience, and success of an ebook author.

IMO, there are very few truly unique and original ideas about subjects as old as marketing and list building. Direct marketers have been building mailing lists for many decades.

Certainly no one wants to buy a book that is poorly organized and written, without some original thoughts and ideas, and authored by someone that has no real experience in the subject. Such "rehashed" (as you call it) PLR books are a waste of time.

In contrast, there are a number of great ebooks on list building by experienced IM business owners that are certainly worth the price. As I said at the outset - it all depends upon the person writing the ebook.

I have much respect for you as always but I was not having a go at any one author more the PLR books that are out there.

You want to build a list so you buy a product that tells you to write a product to build a list; so then you write a product about how to build a list so that you can build your own list, and then the buyers of your product write their own products about how to build a list. Eventually everyone is telling everyone else to write about building a list, until you end up buying your own product again.

    It's the circle of life.

I think sometimes people call something rehashed, when in fact it is sharing principles that apply across the board.

    For example, with list building:

    1. Get people on your list. Do this with a squeeze page or optin form in the sidebar. Drive traffic through social media, paid ads, or through affiliates/JVs.

    2. On the optin form or squeeze page, offer something tempting that the visitor would be willing to exchange their email address for access to the product. This could be a checklist or short report or any number of lead magnets.

    3. Regularly send valuable information to your list. Treat them well so they will come to like you and buy from you.

    4. Etc. Etc. Etc.

How many list building products do not include some form of these steps? How many different ways can you say "set up a squeeze page" or "send regular offers to your list?"

Another example, weight loss normally comes down to changing what or how much you eat and starting some form of exercise. There really isn't much more to losing weight than that. Of course, the details matter but even they are much the same no matter which diet you follow. One diet says to eat 3 servings of fruit a day, one says to eat no fruit daily, and one says to eat 6 servings a day. But they all mention fruit - it will be in almost every book.

Does including these basic steps mean your product is rehashed?

6 years ago, when I first started out, I used to do that.

Because that was what I was told to do in a coaching program and since I learn about email marketing, list building and PLR for the first time, I just did what I was told.

But now having gone through the ups and downs of IM, I realized what I was doing was wrong.

Talking about list building, there are 3 ways you can do so:

    1. Free Traffic

You can write articles, post blog comments and even forums like this one though it may not necessarily be in the IM if you are not doing IM.

But the most powerful of all is video marketing. I got to know a guy called Joshua Elder who is making a ton of money doing this.

If you are not shy in front of camera, this is the best way. If not, you can do powerpoint slide video first and then in front of camera eventually.

    2. Paid Traffic

You can run Bing, FB or Google Adwords ads for just $5 on a starting budget

    3. Cultivated Traffic

You can also form relationships with people on-and-offline such as Facebook Groups, forums again and even offline such as seminars and workshops.

Besides Facebook and forums, there is one other site called Meetup. It is also a social networking site but for people to join or form groups based on a common problem or passion.

This is what I regarded as the best traffic because through this, people already know, like and trust you as a person and will likely buy whatever you recommend.

If you read several books with the same topic in any industry, there's going to be a lot of repeat information across the board. Because in almost every profession, people are doing things in similar ways and they're only ever teaching what has been taught to them by someone else.

For example, I've read multiple books on SEO and there's always tons of repeat strategies. It's not really a surprise; after all, most SEOs are doing a lot of the same things.

With that in mind, it's almost impossible to know what is rehashed (just a direct rewrite) of someone else's materials and what is 100% unique.

In my opinion, what sets a great author apart is the ability to add at least 'a little something extra' in the mix. This could be an innovative twist on an existing method or some of their own theory or logic on why a specific method works so well. That bit extra can help convince the audience that the book isn't rehashed and turn customers into repeat customers.

It's unlikely that customers will buy from you again if 100% of an ebook is information that they already knew...

Jason, great question. With all the books, PDF files, and so on regarding list building that's available, it makes you wonder. But list building is still pretty uniform in that I mean, the methods haven't changed a great deal over the past few years. Yes there may be new strategies, technologies and so on available, but again the principals haven't changed that much. There probably is value in many of these books and PDF files, but I wouldn't expect anything that is really revolutionary or shockingly new. Just perhaps different approaches and viewpoints. Hope this helps...
