What do you do with a dead list?

So I set it all up. I used the Pay Day Tornado method. I bought 900 clicks that gave me 85% tier one clicks. I got 440 opt-ins and not one sale. I have about an 18 day autoresponder series they are automatically sent thru with 6 different offers. Again not one sale.

I use Send Lane for my AR. My open rate is 1 to 4% and my clicks have never been higher than 2% of the opens.

On top of that I have sent other campaigns to them with other offers and even free items. All I'm getting is crickets chirping.

I'm about 4 months in since I started and I'm frustrated beyond belief. I did everything they told me to do and yet the according to the gurus I should be pulling at least $440.00 per month out of this group.

Any constructive help would be very much appreciated.

Take that List out back and shoot it

Seriously, sounds like this Pay Tornado thing brought terrible traffic and very low quality

Odds are it's random traffic that doesn't care what you're selling.

Seems like the list you've built is quite inactive. You mentioned the opt-in rate is about 50%, it considered quite good in terms of initial optin, but then hardly open your autoresponder emails, so may be they are more responsive to free offers. What I would do with this kind of list, is continue to send free offers like PPL, CPL. Since these offers are free and it pays whenever your subscribers sign up to the offer, no buying required.

Or you may try to drive your list traffic to your blog / website if you have one. Send an email to your subscribers about your new post or new page on your sites, just to share the content about tips or tricks, things like that..

For subscribers not opening your emails for a period of time (a month, 2 months, etc.), just removed them from your list.

In the meantime, try different traffic source for your campaign. You said you bought 900 clicks, is it just from one traffic source? Try other way to drive traffic to your campaign, it may works if it presented to the right person...

Hope it helps, wish you all the best!

Also one thing you could do is evaluate your subject lines.

Try to get them to look like Newspaper headlines:

"Top 3 Secrets No One Has Told You About ________"

"Who Else Would Like To Quit Their Job with This _____"

    "The #1 Hack To _____________ in 48 Hours "

Sometimes you can just put weird symbols in front of your subject line title:

">>> Last chance to get this Cheatsheet to viral _________"

    "**** The Top 4 Myths about ______ "
"[VIDEO] This is the Best Kept Secret on __________"

Maybe you are experimenting with subject lines.

Also - the NUMBER ONE MOST IMPORTANT email is the first one. Make your Welcome Email not just have a link to an offer. No - brand that thing, Get your picture of you and your spouse if applicable. Get them to ENGAGE with you. Put your download on your website blog. That way they NOW have to go to your blog to get your offer and on the way, they are remembering you, recalling you. Also Facebook pixel every webpage you have. These are just some ideas my friend.

Bottom line - with SOLO ADS - you can only work with the quality you get. If you did not get to send your own copy (I always ask to send my own if possible) then ask to see what they are gonna send to get those clicks. if its not strong to begin with they might just get clicks from who knows where, who and how! Get solos from verified and vetted sellers ONLY!

Other than a salepitch, what else do you have on your landing page?

If they atleast clickthrough then maybe add another banner for crossales? Maybe a adnetwork that offers PPI. How about linktrades with other sites in the footer?
Getting sales are great, but don't miss out on all those that don't buy. They can still make you money.

  • It doesnt matter what the gurus say. Only if that list is inline with the copy in your autoresponder.

You dont have any details about the traffic you bought?

Yes this is a dilemma for many online entrepreneurs for sure! In your email copy, are you providing value? What I mean by that is when you send out your emails, are they content rich? For instance, "how to" emails (how to do something or solve a common problem), new technology or product reviews, YouTube videos that you've recorded or videos that you found interesting, and so on. Another key area is your subject line. Is it inviting or does it generate curiosity? e.g. "What you need to know about xxx now before it's too late!" But I found that if I am promoting my product or service too much, my open rate tends to decrease as well. I hope this helps. All the best to you!

Depending on the niche you were in, 440 opt-ins is nothing.

Most marketers in the "make money online" niche add more leads than that to their list every day. Also, low open and CTR rates are typical for that niche. I've been in the niche for almost 10 years and my open rates are around 7% and CTR rates are around 3%. It's generally a numbers game in that niche. I also have a list of over 50K, so that's how I'm making lots of sales.

The whole one lead = $1 per month in revenue formula is true only if you got targeted leads that are interested in what you're selling.

You got a little less than a 50% opt-in rate on those 900 clicks, so that shows that people were obviously interested in what you were giving away.

That means that if those 440 opt-ins were not responsible at all, then that usually means one of two things. Either the leads were not real, or you did not have a very good follow up system. Maybe you did not promote the right products to them.

At any rate, you cannot really get much data from a list with less than 500 people on it. You need to build your list up to around 10K before you can really test.

Again, $1 per month per lead is not realistic in the MMO niche. A list of 10K in the MMO niche should make you around $1500-$2000 per month if you promote the right products.

Sounds like untargeted traffic. If they were interested in your subject matter you would get higher CTRs. I am unfamiliar with pay day tornado but it sounds like it does not work well in your niche. The best thing to do is find people who are interested in your niche. There may be forums or facebook groups about your topic. Additionally, if each of your 18 day thing tries to sell and never gives any real value to the information received, you will not have great success. People do not want to be sold, so you have to get them interested in buying in a way where they feel it was their great idea...

I gotta tell ya (and I know I'm gonna take a rash of shit for this) but I've been at this long enough I should know better. I use the swipes and the gurus headlines because I'm no good at doing it myself. It took me the longest time to get started (missing so many pieces it frustrated the shit out me). But I kept hearing the same thing over and over. Just take action. Even if it's ugly action just do it. Well I did and while I don't believe it was a horror show it wasn't the spit and polished flim-flam that has sucked my wallet dry.

Thanks for all the help that I could afford.

    I'm out.

Sorry you feel like that. It is frustrating when people make this business look easy, when it's actually really hard. The top people have generally lost lots of money before they made any. Stay positive and keep going! You never know what's around the corner.

We've all been there done that! I have done things in moments of anxiety over perhaps a new product or traffic source and, part of me knew I was skipping some key details, but I was just "taking action" yeah. I believe in "taking action" but then again - like you say, not at the price of skipping some steps. Live and learn, right? Thanks for being honest and real, also. I appreciate that.

This is simply a case of either bot clicks, fake signups, or just people who have no interest in what you are selling.

Oh...This is very subjective. I don't put all my eggs in one basket especially buying solo ads because different vendor's lists have different buying behavior. Email Marketing requires time to test which one work for your offers. Furthermore, headlines play a very important role in email marketing and I read email when the title captures my attention.

It seems like the whole world knows what email marketing is for; Promote through emails. In my opinion, we should change our expectation towards our subscriber's. Instead of chasing sales perhaps we could offer our help/expertise to solve their problems. I know, this is easier said than done but we have no choice if we want to succeed in email marketing.

I guess the list is useless to you right now and needed to build a new one from the ground up again. Good luck!

Try sending them a free download of some sort and see how they respond. If you see them responded, which means you can still make money from them by offering them some Pay Per Lead/Cost Per Action offers. If nothing happens, then forget about the list. It is bot traffic.
