Newbie - Email Marketing

Hi guys,

Apologies if the following sounds a bit naive as I am new to the scene and trying to get my head round a lot of various factors.

What interested me was the email marketing side of things and the thought of being able to send millions of emails while being an affiliate and even if 0.5% only converted in sales for example this could still be a tidy profit.

The problem is laws perhaps such as CAN-SPAM and other countries anti-spam laws. Personally if I receive junk mail I don't actually go to the bother of reporting it or taking further action but obviously that's just me.

What I was finding when reading into these laws from different countries is that most require you to have an unsubscribe link in your message. I know of quality products including email scrappers, mass mailers and SMTP servers to get if I needed them which could easily handle the workload. What I was thinking was searching for niche's related to my affiliate field and target customers emails who are in that space with an unsubscribe link in the email itself. But I am thinking this is still not a possibility legally and everyone has to have their contacts to "OPT IN". Is this absolutely the case or am I missing something?

Again apologies about the naivety.

With B2C data, scraped data isn't can-spam compliant and you will typically end up with bonuses and spam traps that will cause your accounts to be terminated or IPs blocked / blacklisted quickly.

You want to acquire targeted 3rd party data, which is data that the users have provided permission to receive messages from third parties and is 100% can-spam compliant. You can get targeted data that the users have requested info about or have shown an interest regarding a specific vertical.

You purchase the data or you can try and set up rev-share deals. Rev-share is simply data that you get for $0 upfront cost and split the revenue generated from sending it, with the data providers.

I've been monetizing 3rd party data for over 16 years.

The best way to do it is to promote PPL (pay per lead...lead generation) offers. This is because there is no credit card / purchase required to complete an offer. All a user has to do is fill out a form, so conversion rates are typically much higher than for offers that require a sale to be made.

I favor offers that have a make, get or save money benefit to them. This is what has overall worked the best for me and they tend to have the greatest amount of mass appeal (will be of interest to a large general audience). So the potential to generate high volume exists and they are fairly easy to cross promote on the back-end.

Some verticals that I have done extremely well with are: education, insurance, debt, credit, mortgage, loans, assistance, discount offers, homeowner offers, etc...

You start out by acquiring 3rd party data for a specific vertical and send a relevant offer. So if you're getting life insurance data, then you send a life insurance offer. If you're getting data for education then you send an education offer. etc, etc... Then later, you will start cross promoting other offers on the back-end to further monetize the data.

So your basically monetizing the data using PPL offers because they offer the path of least resistance to generating conversions and converting the data into cash producing assets.

I use ESPs for sending fresh / targeted data because most provide shared IPs and you can piggyback off the good IP reputation that has been created by the other users and get decent deliverability.

For aged data, I will send using my own servers / IPs. However, when you get your own IPs they will at best have neutral IP reputation and will not likely deliver well to all domains. So I domain target the data based on what domains I will likely get the best deliverability with, using the IPs I have.

While it may sound simplistic, there is far more that goes into it. Done right, it can be extremely profitable. Everyone that I know that is in the business and knows what they are doing, for the most part, does 6-7 figures. While that may sound like a huger range, much comes down to one's ability to scale and to effectively build/manage the infrastructure need to scale.

    Hope that helps.

Hi Diablo, I wish there was an option to give two thumbs up as this was great information. I just had a few questions.

If you acquire third party data is it not in essence the same as obtaining email addresses that have been involved in the niches you are affiliating with as both I'd imagine wouldn't actually be officially on your email list or is it because the 3rd party data have opted in to receive similar emails before?

Anywhere you'd recommend for the 3rd party data and PPL offers?

      Many thanks

I believe the answer if I understand your questions correctly, is the data could be either depending on what the data source is providing.

The data you get will be of users that requested info about the vertical (niches are referred to verticals in CPA) or they already expressed an interest in the vertical.

I tried to gain a better understanding on this matter.

After having a search I believe the case for buying from a third party or renting a list is that some will state in their emails that they send out or on their website that partners and companies associated with them basically can use their emails to send like for like emails. But I think the hard thing is knowing which ones to trust as some could just be spammers dressed in sheep's clothing.

OfferVault is a great place to see what offers are available and what networks are hosting them.
I supply 3rd party data and so does Diablo as well.
Also, being can spam complaint is very very easy to do in the usa. There are plenty of articles that will assist you in this, but to sum it up, have your contact info on it, process unsubscribes with a single click in real time, dont have misleading subject lines or information, and dont modify your headers, and you should be fine.
Dont scrape data, you will have more headaches then its worth.

      Thanks ProducerK.

I have a reputable place where I can get for example 500k worth of emails related to my niche for a really good price. Obviously they aren't on my subscribe list but I could put in details you mentioned in regards to unsubscribe options and so on.

Would this be worth sending out to?

It would only be worth sending too man if the data was of high quality.
As I am sure you are aware, not all data is created or sold equally.
Hard bounces, complaints, and traps are all real things you have to be aware of that can kill your campaigns down to a snails pace.
        Cheapest is not always best.

    Hi,
Industry is the key to success we all know it but I think this industry must be followed by some techniques otherwise it will not be benefited.

Firstly, E-mail marketing is an important field to boost your sell at present time.So I think you need to choose the right person who can help you in different ways and who is efficient and also experienced in this sector.

Secondly, The targeted email lists must be collected from the expected place and after that the emails must be verified so that all the emails go to the inbox. If this method is followed I think that no emails will go the SPAM box and you must be benefited and can promote your business easily.

    Thanks

Mail-tester just tests your message using a stock installation of SpamAssassin, which is popular spam filter. However, there are many spam filters, there are also add-ons for SpamAssassin which it does not use and the big domains use filters that are much more sophisticated and look heavily at your engagement.

Getting a good score using it is by no means a guarantee that you will inbox all domains. It's really more suitable for testing how your mail might inbox sending to small domains.

You ideally want to know the domain makeup of your list(s) and create seed accounts for the domains with the highest percentage of users. Then use the seeds to test your inbox placement before sending your message.

For many, AOL, Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo and parent domains using the same mx, can makeup as much as 85-90% of their list. So at the very least, you should start with them and any other seed accounts you can set up or acquire.

If you're hitting the spam folder, you basically need to look at the following...

Back-end setup: spf, dkim, rdns, etc...
IP/ domain reputation: any domain / ip that is associated with the mailing.
Content: everything in the message body, subject line, including your template.

You then need to test everything and isolate the problem and fix it.

Obviously, you can't test all domains. Which is where SpamAssassin can be useful. However, my preference is to test using spamassassin with razor and pyzor add-ons.

        Hope that helps.

        Hi,
        Thanks for your recommendation.

Actually the link you shared about Mail-tester just tests your message using a stock installation of Spam assassin, which is popular spam filter but you can gather details information about your database.I have been using a most effective email verifier[Automic email verifier] for a long time. These verifier mainly categorized my emails into three

ways........suppose you entered a database, then you will get three information about your database like...............

        1.shows valid emails
        2.shows invalid emails
        3.shows uncertain emails
so you can easily select the valid emails which will work 100% and no emails will go to the spam box guaranteed.

        Thanks again

          That is 100% FALSE!

Simply having valid emails is not even remotely close to a guarantee that you will inbox.

There are MANY reasons why your message could go to the spam folder and no matter what you do, there is no way to ensure 100% deliverability...that is totally impossible.
