Trying To Figure Out Ecommerce Email Marketing

I'm doing an email marketing campaign audit for a client who's skate/surf fashion industry and I'm looking for some guidance.

I've noticed two interesting trends while looking at their competition:

1. None of their competitors are personalizing emails to the reader
2. All their competitors have low image to text ratios (so a lot of their emails are getting sent to spam)

Are they just lazy or is there a reason I'm seeing this all over the place?

    Hi jacobmsabatino,

Every niche is different, if I had to guess I'd say your competitors are either not aware of marketing automation, don't understand the benefits, don't have the knowledge or resources to set it up, or simply haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

I have spoken to a lot of business owners about Marketing Automation, and I can say that many just do not get the concept, they often think it is just another term for email marketing, and the see all of it as just doing a generic promotional email blast or a simple newsletter.

Marketing Automation is highly dynamic and reactive based on user behavior. When setup right it feels like the communications is a personal back and forth dialogue rather than a monologue style sales pitch.

Fact is that most small businesses aren't even aware that it is something that they could do.

    HTH,

    Don Burk

Depends, and each email marketer is different as well. Test to see what converts best. I work with guys who have a few different strategies when it comes to email marketing.

    Get that list BIG!

There is a reason you're seeing it all over the and the reason is their competitors don't know about marketing automation or just too lazy to implement it.

Capitalize on the competitor's weakness and your client will be smiling all the way to the bank in a matter of time.
