Hi, like the title I have a 30% of leads that never open a single email. I have a funnel of 7 email delivered in a week . They subscribe to my list but never open not even the first email with the lead magnet. You think it's normal a 30% ? Have you similar percentages? I don't think it's a spam problem because the spam score it's about 1,1 and many leads from other provider like hotmail or gmail open regularly email. My job it's about anxiety and I work in europe, perhaps in europe there are different percentages from america...

First of all, are you using double optin? If you're not, some emails may be fake (though that would be much less than 30 percent). You can use Kickbox or something like that to check if your emails are real - it integrates with Aweber and other providers. You also want to check that you're not getting bots.

Personally, I haven't tracked how many people NEVER opened an email, but 15-20 percent never open the welcome email. This is true EVEN when they had to confirm (double optin) and the only way to get the free giveaway was from that first welcome email. Basically, 15-20 percent would confirm their emails and then not open the welcome email. And if they couldn't bother to open that, I doubt they would bother to open many of my followups.

thanks for your suggest. I don't use double optin but fake email usually come from strange address with strange name like frit50@fitjdsn.com . Many leads that never opened are from classic domain like gmail, hotmail or others and have a real name in the address, they don't seems fake. The 30% mistery continues....

A lot of people are busy and don't check the email they use for opting in to get gifts! So it may take more than a week before they go back to that email.

    Hello
In My Opinion 30% is normal with some lists and depending on the leads source, how targeted they are , You have a 70% open rate thats good for me ...
    Good Luck

I wouldn't worry if I were you, there will ALWAYS be a percentage of your list that will never open an email, no matter what.

There is no such thing as 100% of the subscribers to open your emails at least once.

There are many reasons for this, but one of it is that some can reach the spam folder (I recommend you create a new email address of yours and test there, to see if your emails reach inbox or spam, but never open the email so you don't interfere with the actual spam filter). It doesn't matter if your spam score is good, some filters might still mark it as spam, depending on the actual content.

There are users that could have their account configured to not open images. In which case the open pixel won't fire and record the user opened a message.

Have any of the users that haven't opened, clicked a link?

Just because you have users opening from a specific domain, doesn't mean you are inboxing that domain 100%.

You could set up a bunch of seed accounts and test your inbox placement.

30% to have never opened a single message seems high. How big / old is the data? The percentage could come down over time.

Hey...wow that means you have 70% that do open. That's amazing!!! Guess what the average open rates on email is about 25-40% there are articles all over online.

Many people will join your list with fake email because the are curious. THAT said only use SINGLE OPTIN... double optin is a waste of money, just learn how to manage your list. Cull out those not interested. It really is easy to build a list...managing the list is a challenge.

Industry average is about 8% open rate so your doing pretty well.

Personally if people have not opened emails in 3-6 months bin them. Remove them as they won't open them.

I removed after 45 days of not opening...they are not interested so why pay to have the lead on your list.

How often you prune your unresponsive data should be based on your engagement.

If you have good open rates, it's not as important and you could let the time frame slide.

If you have poor open rates, you should be purging the data much quicker so that you get your open rates up.

Poor engagement will lead to poor deliverability.

That number is not all that accurate FYI, if the person gets your email and doesn't click the warning to open images on your email (depending on which email provider they are using) they can still view and read the email but your stats will say unopened.

A lot of you guys saying "wow open rates of 70%" are reading what he said wrong. He said that out of the 7 emails, 70% opened AT LEAST one, or in other words, 30% didn't open ANY.

Anyway, onto the question. I think this is pretty normal. I recently cleaned my list, and found that around ~20% of my entire list had never opened a single email (some people had been subscribed for half a year or more.)

As far as I know, the ability to track whether an email was opened or not is not 100% accurate, so there may be some people who have opened your emails that aren't being detected by your email provider.

Regardless, if it appears that they haven't opened any emails (out of 7), I'd kick them from your list. No point paying for people who aren't responsive.
