Best Tools for Cold Emailing

Based on the advice I got from another post, I am now planning to try cold emailing. For this I need a few tools and would like to get some advice!

I should preface this by saying that we are a startup on a tight budget! Cost matters.

We will be targeting smaller businesses with revenue between $100,000 and $1,000,000 who have been in business 2 to 10 years.

1. What email software do you recommend? We are looking to send out about 30 or so automated emails per day to businesses on our list. We'll also of course need it to perform automated follow up emails.

2. How do we go about building a list large enough to make an impact? I am thinking purchasing a list is best here because there's no way that I know to easily determine if they meet our criteria just by hunting. But I really have no idea!

3. What CRM should we be using? We're on a budget so something like HubSpot looks appealing. Can anyone vouch for this or any other CRM?

    I feel as though if your going the b2b route, you should use a self hosted program.
    Mailing to businesses is naturally going to generate more complainers then mailing to the top level domains, therefore your going to want a system that can take a little more "heat" then what you would find at an esp level provider.

    On the other hand, if you mean sending just 30 because you're just starting? You might be better off cold-calling the old fashioned way. As in pick up the phone, call to learn from real people what they're interested in about your approach. If you've got useful stuff, you'd get better practice with local businesses near you for your first few customers. Then apply what you learn for future business clients into your email stuff.

      As usual, there are far too many people on here who do not understand or know the laws around spam.

      First and foremost, the Can Spam Act of 2003 does not apply to B2B type of communication. Soliciting businesses over email to sell or pitch business services is completely legal.

      The CanSpam act is more focused around B2C mailing, which is your typical selling a product or service to a individual person.

      Sending 30 emails a day to businesses, pending you are sending mail to them from another business and selling business services, is perfectly legal and not spam whatsoever.

      Furthermore, sending that low volume of email wont cause you any issues at all. I hope this helps.

        I've done a little research and can see evidence that supports what you say about B2B cold emails, making them honest, providing an unsubscribe link etc.

        But I've look at a few tools like Hubspot, Benchmark, Mailchimp etc and if you import a list (with the intention of emailing just the once) they want you to give assurance that you have the permission of all the people on the list to add them, which of course you don't, if it's cold email.

    benchmark is one option, It provides a free life plan for a 2000 subscribers and 14,000 emails a month. Have a video email option and inbox checker. But cons are limited customer support and as you have unlimited contact they have to come from benchmark sign up form, not uploaded from any crm software or other sources

    1) I would recommend using a software that allows importing purchased email lists. ESPs such as MailChimp or AWeber don't allow these types of list. (Check out Clickback MAIL for sending).
    2) Purchasing an email list is an investment but a smart one. There are many reputable data providers out there that can help nail down your target audience and provide you with a target email list.
    3) If you're on a budget - there are many free CRMs out there. I personally don't use HubSpot's CRM but I do use their Marketing Automation and have no complaints!
