Is Email dead?

Recently heard that some affiliate networks paused email traffic completely. UK law got more strict due to high spam activity. Affiliates are shifting to Social/Native traffic.

Will Email campaigns be dead in 2018?

  • There are plenty of email friendly CPA networks that are going strong.
In the USA, the CanSpam Act was supposed to curb spam, it didn't.
In Canada, the CASL law was supposed to curb spam, it didn't.
Stricter Laws in the UK will likely have minimal impact as well.
Advertisers, emailers, will all adapt and remain compliant or quasi compliant.
Email will continue to be a significant source for traffic through 2018 and many more years after that.

  • I highly doubt it, not if you have built a relationship with your list. If you are trying to build a list from scratch, you should also not ignore email marketing i.e. building a list of emails subscribers rather than FB followers.

I've got nothing against FB marketing and building up a fan base of followers. The best marketers don't put all their eggs into one basket. They always build lists of all kinds - email subscribers, FB fans, Twitter followers etc.
  • Someone always thinks email is dying. No affiliate network would ever suggest they're going to stop people from emailing links.

Sure, some laws make it tougher... Like Canada's CASL etc... but nothing in marketing can replace an engaged, loyal and properly cultivated tribe of subscribers.
  • You know whats funny?

I only get EMAILS saying that EMAIL IS DEAD.

I have never seen someone on FB or Twitter saying that email was dead. Always emails in my inbox haha

  • No, not at all. Email marketing is not dead. Even marketers are including email marketing or newsletter in the future of content marketing. Renowned digital marketing agencies like Techmagnate and many industry experts have mentioned that email marketing will still be the most flourishing technics in content marketing.
  • EMAIL will LIVE for a long time yet!

WHY? cause in fact is your only asset.

Social Media account can be turned off and is tricky sometimes, and people still read emails.

    How about SPAM?

I think your question is put considering only the point of view of someone who's not generate lead according to CAN SPAM act.

But you can be fair and build your list wise, according to laws.

And you will never be in danger. I mean most of these new act are made for people acquiring list, exchanging list without consent or spamming etc.

But if you are legal you can easily continue to do Email Marketing as well.
  • Email still produces some of the highest ROI available.

I have seen one CPA network stop allowing GI this year, but that's where your worst spam traps exist. However, there are many mail friendly networks that I don't see it becoming an issue.

Hell, if it ever did become an issue with the networks...I would just build out my own offers and bank crazy insane money day in / day out.

As long as CanSpam continues to allow you to send purchased data, I could care less what happens.

    • Would you call it Diablo Cpa and shave daily haha
  • Well i think its more strict on spam but if you do your job wisely t will work always .In my online career i wqatch many experts ,gurus webinars teaching etc .and 90% of them use email as main business .This tell you something ?
  • email is not dead....this has been said time and time again. There are a lot of spammers but if you do things right it will be fine.
  • Maybe email spam is dead, but email marketing is very far from dead if you really think about it
  • Yeah and SEO is dead.... ;-)
  • No Email Marketing Is Not Dead, I send and check my emails every day. Spam doesn't bother me unless it's multiple of the same email at one time, or porn or pills because I know people are promoting their offers.
  • Channels never die...they just evolve. Believe it or not, I still make some money with FAXES!
  • Why worry about 2018 now. Has it ever been dead.

Why do people ask this question over and over and over and over and over again only to get the same answer.

    • 2018 is in 5 months, if you do not have long term vision then don't judge people who do. Try to learn from it

  • As an Affiliate manager I can confirm that email traffic is on the top right now and affiliates with such traffic are in high demand (of course if it isn't just a spam).

    • I am an Affiliate Manager as well and we focus only on affiliates with email data as email was on top of Social and Native/Display.
Still, as law is getting more strict and hard to manage the flow of email leads (today you get 100 and tomorrow 15), you are getting many complains and in the same time buyers are not happy cause of inconsistency..
As per OP, got an email from one Affiliate network that they will not accept email traffic anymore.
Just to be clear, when I said dead I didn't mean 0 activity, just that email will not be dominant as it was and kinda it is now.
  • The day Google removes the Spambox feature from their web interface will be the day that email is dead.
  • No, what traffic method is dominant does not depend on affiliate networks, it depends on internet users. If internet users still prefer to interact with marketers in their email over other places, then affiliate networks that prohibits email traffic will simply be the ones to lose.
  • IT'S SIMPLE: email marketing will never die!!

you must have people that follow what you write them ( create relationships with your readers )
  • The UK law is a bump in the road. Email marketing is healthy and will continue to be an excellent method of marketing IMO.

    • I agree. Email marketing, especially when it`s targeted becomes a very powerful way to reach your audience!
