Why Email Marketing Is NOT Always Lucrative As What MOST Marketers Claimed?

In this another controversial and yet down-to-earth thread again, I am going to explain why email marketing is not always lucrative as what most marketers claimed.

Even though it will offend some who made tens of thousands upon sending emails.

Most of you may have heard this saying -

The Money Is In The List.

Well, this is only half-truth.

What is the complete truth is that -

The Money Is NOT Just In The List

But In The Relationships You Build With Your List And -

The Value Of Your Offer You Recommend Them.

Now, let me ask you.

Do you know what is the purpose of having an email list and send emails to them?

I will tell you.

The purpose of doing so is to follow up with them in case they visited your site but did not buy anything.

Now don't get me wrong.

I am NOT saying you should not do email marketing.

While you should when it comes to promote information products like e-books and video tutorials be it from Clickbank, JVZoo or Warrior Plus, it does not really apply when it comes to promoting physical products or CPA offers.

Firstly for physical products say from Amazon, Amazon has a tracking system which it will follow up with prospects who visited through your affiliate link but did not buy for certain reasons.

Secondly, it does not apply when promoting seasonal gifts like Valentine, Thanksgiving, Christmas And New Year gifts as most people visiting the e-commerce network has strong intentions to buy and when they do, they don't just buy one but multiple items in the same category.

And when it comes to sending emails, you can't send text emails like when you are promoting information products.

You need to brand yourself the same way Amazon and E-bay do when they send their follow-up emails using html email / newsletter templates.

For CPA offers like Market Health, they already have their own landing pages so it will not make sense to create another in your own that ended up with prospects having to optin twice to get access to the same offer.

Also let me ask you which I hope you can be honest with me.

When you received emails from various marketers, do you open up and read ALL the emails from your inbox?

Or will you read those of marketers you know and trusted?

Hope this will enlighten you and leave me your comments and questions if you have any below.

Nice solid advice, thanks for sharing.

Checked this out because let's face it - the money is usually in the list. But, it is definitely right to say that getting someone on a list is only part of the job. You need to build a relationship in order to make them feel confident enough to buy.

I am offended at the fact that you think people only make tens of thousands of dollars using email marketing.

Maybe you mean tens of thousands of dollars a week, because people who are doing email marketing right, still make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, with many of them surpassing millions of dollars a year.

Straight up, there is no other traffic source that comes close to email in terms of cost, scale, and profitability.

Anyone who says otherwise is simply misinformed and not in the know, and not doing it right.

      Producer K,

I am not surprised that people like you are offended and disagree with what I said.

      In fact I expected it.

I have only this to say.

It is better for me to point out the real hard truth.

Than paint beautiful BS like what many so-called gurus did.

      Especially to newbies.

Unfortunately, you are not pointing out any truths at all.

Email Traffic is no different then any other form of traffic online.

About 5% of the people working in any traffic niche are going to make any significant money.

This is true for email, sms, facebook, ppc, ppv, media buying, and every other traffic source.

The simple truth about online marketing in general is that about 5% of all the people who do it are going to be able to make a significant income doing it. This is true for most business in general.

I have been working full time in online marketing for 7 years now, and about 10 years part time at it.

I am not a guru, I am simply a guy who works 60+ hours a week grinding and building this great business that I have built.

Email is not easy, you wont get rich overnight, its a constant grind and a pain in the rear, but so is every other traffic source out there.

As I mentioned above, there is no other form of traffic that can compete with email in terms of cost, scale, and profitability.

Finally, I run my email operation similar to Diablo as well. I do not make relationships with the people on my list, I simply make sure I monetize them with every email I send. Its a numbers game, and if you can make the numbers work, you can get rich.

When done right...email marketing can be very lucrative.

It's not the only place where money is (list) but it definitely is a place where a lot of money can be made.

Great advice here. We're just started to really push on engaging our community on our Facebook as well (for those who are yet to join, you're more than welcome: https://www.facebook.com/groups/officialwarriorforum/ )

With that though, links from JVZoo have a warning message attached to them when you try to share them on Facebook Groups / Pages / Communities / Marketplace and when messaging someone. So always mask your links (even in social), it's good practice.

while pepole say email market is crap and does not work, I have built a six figure a year company based purely on email marketing.

So does it work, yes 88% of my sales come through that.

It does have to be done properly, and you need a plan going into this style of marketing, but it does work.

May I ask how did you build a 6 figure company from email marketing?

Is it through selling your own products like John Thornhill and Michael Cheney?

You talked about branding. If you are building an email list, and you follow up with your list regularly, and you own your own blog which you send your list too...are you branding yourself? Yes.

When there are events happening, will you be able to create your own special offers and send it to your list? Yes.

Sure, certain CPA offers has their own landing page, but when you build your own email list, and send them to CPA offers...you will be able to do it multiple times. I do not mean spamming them over a few days period on different offers, but you will be able to send them to other offers which you think might benefit them.

Not all emails will be read...this is the same for any platform. Do you take notice of every news feed on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Pinterest etc. The answer is no.

All your emails will not be read. But it is your job to build the relationship and the trust with your emails.

So amuro, in your opinion, if email marketing is not good enough for you, will you help the community out with your marketing strategy?

    It's like some already said...

Email Marketing really comes down to a few things:

    1) Having a relationship with your list
    2) Your subscribers must trust and like you
    3) You should have the right audience on your list
    4) And finally, it's having the right offer in place.

Even if you have a strong relationship with your list, and they like and trust you but you don't have the right offer, you won't make a penny through email marketing.

The single best way to get an idea what your offer should be all about is to survey your list.

A few months ago I read something interesting Jeff Walker said in regards of coming up with the right offer for his list.

He said, that he's going to survey them as often as possible to get as much information as he can.

The flip side when you survey your list is also that you train your list to click on the links in your email... which is very very important (therefore you should always have a link with CTA in every email you send out)... and you also strengthen the relationship with them.

There are tons of survey tools you could use, but I prefer using google forms, it's free and simple to set up.

    Check it out here LINK

    Hope this helps.

I've been promoting affiliate / CPA offers (non info products) for nearly 17 years via email.

I can tell you from experience, that's where the real money is...high volume / promoting CPA offers.

Plus, I build zero relationships with any recipients. At least not through sending content like everyone promoting MMO / info products. I have also tested sending content to build a relationship and it made no statistically significant increase in revenue.

Those in the industry that make $10K per month are on the low end and $100K+ per month is the higher side.

So there are exceptions to what you are saying.

I personally think everyone should build a list regardless what they are promoting. If all you do is drive cold traffic to a landing page with out collecting the user's email, you will likely be leaving money on the table.

    It's HALF TRUTH !

Obviously it's in the relationship with your list: it's well been said everywhere thousands of times.

    BUT

email marketing does not have the solely purpose of retargeting abandon cart of potential customers as it appears from your thread.

And building an opt in page, even if you market in the end a product in clickbank / jvzoo which has its opt in page, has a LOT OF SENSE.

Firstly because you don't market a product, merely reproduce a copy of an existing landing page.

You are building Your List around a NICHE, not a product: the focus is in solving problem, and some products could be the answer, and, if there are not, the answer is building a product that can supply it.

So, the relationship is good, but in the thread is not covered AFTER a prospect opted in, but it seems to suggest the fact that the kind of the relationship before the joining of a list, makes most of the effort of email marketers useless, cause marketplaces like amazon or clickbank do it by themselves.

    And it's not really true.

Truth being said, I prefer posting ads in classified websites like Gumtree and Craiglist or even Facebook.

The response is much faster and it is easier for me to interact and build relationships with them.

Same for Facebook groups which are even more powerful than email marketing.

Chris Farrell is an expert when it comes to this.
