Single Optin For Big International Lists? [legal]

We usually prefer working with single-optin whenever we can, and we know it attracts some more lawsuits when scaling up, but as long as we play by the rules we don't mind and we just take into account some $ dealing with angry people -

Again, as long as we know the law is on our side and we did nothing wrong.

However, going into more international projects that are not country-specific (English based campaigns targeting a world-wide audience), our lawyers seem to be having trouble advising due to so many different laws, when targeting a world-wide audience (in English).

Anybody around with some real-life experience with world-wide lists of 100k+ subscribers? Would love some advice on how you approach this.

Is it just easier to stick to Double-Optin and live with the 20-40% loss of emails?

Are you trying to comply with ALL the laws EVERYWHERE?

Are you taking a calculated risk?

Are you assuming no one will go into the trouble of sueing in a far away country?

Any insights will be appreciated.

According to this paragraph you have lawyers, meaning more than one lawyer, meaning, probably a law firm. Meaning you are paying a lot of money for said lawyers. And these lawyers can not answer your legal question. So, instead of making the lawyers get your answers you come here and ask total strangers almost all of which have no legal experience.

    Good Luck with this

The best thing about a double opt in would be that a human being would have to make a mistake in signing up for your list TWICE for you to run into issues with spam, etc.

Unless some foreign land advises a triple opt in for folks who are not too swift

I'd go with a double opt-in. Always. But as for legal advice, that is the lawyer's job.
