Mailchimp surprised me - They are now single opt-in by default

I received this email yesterday, and I'm surprised they would be doing this. Don't most of you use double opt in to keep your list from being inflated with fake addresses? I've always done double opt in. Makes me wonder if if I should try switching.

Starting October 31, single opt-in will become the default setting for all MailChimp hosted, embedded, and pop-up signup forms. This change will impact all MailChimp users, so here's everything you need to know:
• All MailChimp signup forms--including all of your existing forms--will shift from double opt-in to single opt-in. This change will occur automatically; you don't need to make any manual adjustments within your account.
• The overall signup process will change: when single opt-in is enabled, the opt-in confirmation emails and the signup thank you page will not be sent or displayed.
• If you wish to keep your existing forms as double opt-in, you will need to set your preferences here before October 31.
Moving forward, you'll have the option to enable double opt-in within your account's list settings.

    What! this will be a very good thing. i think they have released that they are loosing out customers due to the double opt-in issue because the immediately blocks your account if you try to trace pass

    Single Opt In is the standard regardin IM.

    They have finally realized that if the dont want to be the lastest autoresponder in the world, they have to update themselves.

    I think MailChimp isnt good, better use SendLane or ActiveCampaign.

    I think your going to find that they are doing this because MailChimp does not allow marketing emails really, you have to use their partner service for that.
    I mean you can always try, but your accounts are going to be terminated pretty quickly.

    Mandrill which is just their API service.
    But although they are marketed as transactional, I have heard they are good for marketing with clean lists etc of course.

    As an internet marketing you dont want double opt in. You want to make it as easy as possible for visitors to join your list. This is clearly a step in the right direction.
