What do YOU think. What works for YOU in Your niche?

I guess it partially depends on what you're selling?

If you're selling feminine hygiene products, or PMS relief, I suppose many women would rather hear about it, from someone who can actually relate to what they're going through?


But, here's a radical idea for you to consider...

How about being honest, and develop YOURSELF (or your company) as a trusted brand?

That way, no matter what you're selling, or whom your selling it to, you don't have to try and remember what you said... to whom... under which circumstances. (it's a little thing called congruency, and/or integrity)

Be who you are, and develop YOUR brand. That way you don't have to worry about being discovered as a fraud.

Crazy idea... I know. (but it works for some of us)

What matters far more is how you sell to a female or male audience. In other words, it matters less whether they think you are male or female..and matters more if you write like the gender you are selling to.

For example, I write fairly well to a male audience, but have no idea ho to write to women. Writing in a different gender style is difficult, and only the top copywriters can do it well (I think)

Personally, if you are beginning, I'd just be who you are. It's far easier.
Also, are you writing to old people? Middle aged people? teens? They speak a different language. Are they religious? hunters? patriotic? rich?

If you have a choice of audience, I'd stick with the one you relate to the most.

This is where knowing your market inside and out comes in handy.

It's not just a gender thing like male audience / male avatar or vice versa.

Build your customer avatar first, including which gender communicates more effectively with them, then communicate with them in that voice. Notice, I did not say 'by pretending to be that gender'.

You can be just as credible with male topics as a male, if you can speak the language.

Way back when, I had two coworkers I ate lunch with. One was a gay man, flamboyantly so. The other was a married woman who grew up with six brothers. If the topic was celebrity gossip, the dude was the go-to source. If it was hunting, fishing or the local sports teams, it was the woman.

All this was in a day and age where gender roles were much more sharply defined.

If you aren't build a List focused on dating advices, or some seduction stuff, which is better having someone of the same sex, with the typical approach "i was like you but i have succeed, and im teachin how", the gender is not so important.

Unlike most of the im marketers are men. But there are women too.

The important factor is that you have to PROVIDE SOLUTION to the people, satisfy their inner needs, than focusin too much on you.

Noone is really interested on you as a person, sad truth but truth.

People become fan of you for what you're givin to them, for what you represent suiting their inner needs.

You can be the great honest person in the world but noone give a shit if you are not essential for people's needs, creating a sort of addiction to your content.

So focus more on providing solution for their problem, accomplish thei inner needs, overcome their obstacles. with your products, of course.

This isn't a stupid question.

In my experience, females tend to market to females while men tend to market to both genders.

I don't know why it's like that.

When you're building a business brand then it's irrelevant. you can market to anyone and everyone.
Frankbody.com is a female brand that uses a male to talk to their customers. It's like the voice in the back of their head telling them to be sexy (funny how that's a male's voice ).

A male oriented list may actually resonate with a female more depending on the niche. You may want to try both an see what gets you the best response.

If it is about connecting to people socially, I would like to share my experience that me and my colleagues have social media pages to handle individually and the thing I got to know is surprising, I got more followers than my male colleagues.

I think that you have better chances with a female avatar. Response rates generally are higher for female personas. And this is universally applicable to all audiences.

I will try to reply as a potential member of your "female" list...
Personally, I never cared if the writer was a guy or gall... The only thing that I check is his/her expertise and his/her experience.
But even then, if the content isn't cheesy or salesy but instead it's convincing and his/her arguments are well structured and logical, I don't give a dime if the writer is an expert or not.
What I am trying to say it's that is the content that matters not who is writing it.
If what you try to say to me is interesting, useful, logical, and actually relevant to your title, then you got my attention and, if you sell something, possibly my money too.
Don''t follow the stereotypes... Not all girls love the pink color, (I do but this will definitely not make me to buy anything!), butterflies, hearts, etc.
The best way to make me feel comfortable and trust you enough to buy something from you is to make me feel that you ACTUALLY can give me something that will solve one of my problems or will make my life easier.
And for closing I will give you an example that may help you...
Last year I built more than 50 eshops selling women's clothing.
The most profitable ones are the ones owned by a guy. And as an "insider" I think I know why... Women think they know everything about other women so they don't try much... Guys on the other hand, work harder because they think that "we just belong in another world"... The result? Guys offer way better customer service...

Previously was a more represented male avatar, but now more and more women's avatar is used. It all depends on what your business is.

The first time in my life I hear that gander of avatar is actually important... Why this should matter much when people can actually pay more attention to what some person wrote?

To be honest, what matters here is not the gender avatar but the tone of the email. Trust me, it can make or break your campaign.

Sometimes, your audience wants to hear from someone who can better relate to their problem. So, gender can play a role there. However, what really matters is the content within the email which will actually matter.

I do not think that it matters. If you have a list for a certain audience, who cares if it comes from a male or a female? Heck, as long as it is a good list, it would not matter to me what the avatar was.

As long as you are presenting yourself and branding what you are trying to sell your audience, I don't think it really matters too much.

Deliver valuable content, offer a solution, and follow up with your email list daily.

The archetype you want to appeal to doesn't have to be male or female.

Take the WarriorForum for example.

The Warrior theme can appeal to both and does.

There are specific psychological archetypes that overlap genders.
