Curious to know, how many of you have over 100k subscribers on your lists? Random question I know. Like I said, just wondering.

If you do, how long did it take you to aquire?

What is your average open rate?

My lists now are into the millions.
Open rates average around 3-5% ongoing.
I do a different type of mailing them most on here do, focusing more on targeted bulk more then anything.

I do the same as ProducerK.

I have lists in the 100K's to millions.

    They are all opens/clickers.

I don't consistently keep track of stats. I mainly just look at what my daily, weekly and monthly ROI is and deliverability because that's what really matters.

My mainstream email marketing I don't have those size lists, but I do track opens and they range from 20%-45%,

My average is probably 25%-30% on the first message, but I always resend many times to unopen to get the overall total messages opened higher.

Quantity never matters as much as quality in my opinion. I'd rather have a list of 100 people looking to spend $10,000 on a solution to their problem than a list of 10,000 people with a $10 budget.

If you have both quantity and quality, that's impressive. A lot of the big CPA mailers have lists in the multiple millions and do very, very well if they have good deliverability and servers.

It's not only a matter of open rates or list size.

You can have a big open rate and few sales.

What is more important is HOW MANY SALES you have: in fact a list can have a higher open rate of giveaway seekers and no sales.

Or less open rates, but good engagement.

Trying to consider a list good when it's 10K size is ok, but you have to also take care of the ROI.

In fact you can have a huge list size with co-reg but no sales in many case.

I think the size of your list really is a direct impact on the type of mailing that you do.
If you run with double opt in and with esp, you will have a smaller list.
If you send more bulk like a few of us do here, your going to have much larger lists.

If someone is considering single VS double opt-in, this is what I do.

I run single opt-in and on the squeeze page, I have a statement that says the lead magnet will be sent to their inbox.

If they know it will be sent to their email address they enter, there is no incentive to enter a fake address. Doing this I rarely get any fake emails.

Granted there are some possible additional benefits of double opt-in, but I don't feel they are worth the decrease in emails collected.

Outside of avoiding fake addresses those that use double opt-in say that if the user confirms then they are more qualified and you are building a higher quality list. To me that is irrelevant. I would rather build a larger list and have more users to promote to and later remove those that are unresponsive.

    Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Probably the biggest list I ever emailed would be in the 100k-150k range. Both were customer databases, not general emails. So both took 5+ years to "generate" because people had to make actual purchases on my site.

I had open rates as high as 35% though.

Yes I could see that, definitely a HUGE difference between a buyer list and an inquiry list. Good idea to segment those for anyone reading this. You can monetize buyer and inquiry lists in different ways. Good stuff here.
