Why Gmail puts your emails in PROMOTIONS tab?

If you have noticed a decline in your open rates because Gmail puts your email in promotional Tab you are not alone. We have noticed this started happening 2 years ago for our clients and that was the major reason of decline in open rates because GMAIL now makes 50% or more of your lists and if mails go in Promotional Tab your open rates drop dramatically.

Luckily there is a way out.

Don't use Email Swipes. YES, Gmail now looks at your emails same way it looks for duplicate content on Search Engine Spam control.

Imagine a new product is launched and 1000 affiliates send same swipe to all their lists, Google is smart enough to know you just copied and pasted.

Try to create original content, connect with your audience and give them something different than what other affiliates are sending them.

You will notice a great improvement in open rates and your mails will start going into inbox soon and not in promotions tab

I think it's because Google can detect the server you sent email from. Like if you sent email from Mailchimp, google can know this is an email sent from an email service provider, then they likely to move them to promotion tab in Gmail.

What I have always noticed is that every message that ends up in my promotions tab is using images.

I even get messages from Google that have images in it go to the promotions tab. That says a lot since google is gmail.

I have seen that when you are promoting something and using keywords like "money, or buy this" this kind of emails goes to promotion tab... you need to be original and use other keywords in your emails.. test, test, test.

Yes, I agree these factors matter too. For example

      1. Using obviously commercial keywords that are typically used in these swipe emails

      2. Using same email templates with same logo and branding. This uniquely identifies you as a promotional email sender

      3. Same Call to Action links like ==>> CLICK HERE

In short, try to be as real, natural and unique in your email content as possible
