Is it a bad idea to have an affiliate product offer on your thank you page?

Originally I heard that if you don't have product offers on your thank you page and download page then you're leaving money on the table. So I added affiliate product offers to my thank you page and download page.

But half of the people that sign up to my list don't click the confirm subscription (double optin) link in the email. So I'm thinking that maybe I shouldn't distract them with an offer on the thank you page. And instead just tell them to click the link in the email to confirm.

Has anybody else noticed that some people don't get around to confirming their subscription when you have an affiliate sales video on your thank you page? I'm thanking that the sales videos distracts them and they don't end up getting around to confirming their subscription.

Or is it normal for about half the people that sign up originally to not confirm their subscription?

I know it's not my confirmation email because it is now very well written and reminds them of my business name and the name of the free ebook that they get when they confirm their subscription which they saw on the landing page. I also mention that I got a couple of bonus for them for signing up.

If you feature a sales video on the first page before you present the link to download the ebook they've actually clicked to receive, it's little wonder so many are abandoning the process at that stage. Place any sales offer on the download page - after you've thanked them for confirming the opt-in.

Forget this "leaving money on the table" notion and focus on making the sign-up process as smooth and hassle-free as possible.

Well, I agree with the previous comment but I still feel if the reason for them to give you their email is strong enough, they will definitely go through the verification process. That way, it finally boils down to your squeeze page. If it is effective, chances of prospects verifying the email will be better.

The thing is, if you push them too much it is going to hurt. A single page should not have more than one purpose. That is very important for conversions. If the webmaster himself takes the attention of the single purpose, it is going to be non productive.

I don't feel like my thank you page is pushy though. Here's what it says:

"Your book is on the way! In the next few minutes you'll receive an email with a link to download the book. In the meantime, check out this video about getting prepared for any crisis with just 1 trip to Walmart..."

You can also just make your thank you page an affiliate page. So you throw them straight to an offer. Split test it against giving them something to click on. You can't do this with some advertisers though.

With an affiliate offer on my thank you page, half of the people wouldn't confirm their subscription. After removing the affiliate offer and getting more subscribers - a third of those were not confirming their subscription. So I think it did improve a little by removing the affiliate offer. But I don't know for sure if that is why. It could be that my confirmation email is going to the spam folder for some of them.

I also told them to white list my email address on the thank you page. So I added that. I saw one guys thank you page the other day and he said something like "Don't forget to white list my email address or add me to your contacts so my emails don't get sent to your spam folder". I thought that was a good idea to say something like that because some people might not know how to white list an emails address but they might know how to add you as a contact.

And now I'm going to add something else to tell them to check their spam folder just in case my confirmation email is going there.

Tell them on the ty page also what the subject line is of the confirmation email and the from name. Perhaps take a screenshot of this and place it. So they know exactly what to look for.

This tool creates whitelist instructions for a lot of email clients. I host the instructions on my webpage and just link to it from ty page. Email Whitelist

Consider using a word like Attention with red text color and a bigger font, next to the paragraph that tells them to check their email. So they read the thing, it grabs attention.

Ramit Sethi on his ty page displays a button (if you subscribe with gmail) that when clicked opens the user's gmail account (I guess only works if they're logged in). It's cool if you can take time to do that.

Depends on your clarity. If you feel uncomfortable receiving money - many people are - or feel uncomfortable selling, bad idea. Folks will tell you that you are being pushy. And you will not make any sales because you'll be adding offers where you should be focusing on expressing genuine gratitude. But if you feel clear on receiving money and selling - it is only money anyway - it is A-OK. Folks will dig it. sales will increase because you will align with folks who appreciate the thank you and affiliate offer to benefit them. All a reflection of your own energy, 100% your deal.

Your funnel isn't optimized If traffic doesn't confirm.

Give traffic a reason to finish the process, something useful/free at the end of the goal usually does it.

Adding confusion to the process only makes things worse. Forget the affiliate offers. Streamline the funnel.

I do give them a reason to confirm in the confirmation email. I'm giving them my free ebook, plus a couple of bonuses. Yet still some of them don't confirm to see what those bonuses are. So it must be something else - product offer on thank you page, or my confirmation email is going to some of their spam folders. But I took care of both of those things so confirmation rate should get better. We'll see.

What kind of confirmation rate are you guys getting?

What do you mean move it back to after the final optin step. I have it on my confirmation email which is the final optin step. Are you saying I shouldn't mention it until after that?

I didn't use to tell them about the bonuses until they reached the download page, but I just thought it might be a good idea to mention that there is bonuses in the confirmation email to further motivate them to confirm their email address.

    You are doing it wrong...

Don't send them straight to the download page as soon as they optin.

    And don't use double optin.

Everyone has their own opinion on how to get leads...

    Here's how I do it.

I use "Single Optin" as soon as they optin I send them straight to an Instant Offer. (affiliate product)

But here's the trick...make your page with the text "Click Play and watch the video below for what to do next"

This video will be a redirect video, you can use software to do this. The video should say, "Thanks for opting in...check your email for the download link, in the meantime here's something I think can really help you out!

As soon as the video finishes it redirects them to your affiliate offer.

Just make sure that the affiliate offer is related to what they opted in for.

If they don't take the affiliate offer, also put a write up about it with a link on your download page.

Here's the thing, just use double optin on your already opted in ACTIVE USERS and buyers list when you want to segment your list.

    Hope this helps,
    Ronnie Rokk Smith

Sounds like you're doing it similar to how I was doing it. I didn't have an actual video on my thank you page though, I had a video placeholder - something that looked like a video but when they click it it redirects them to a product.

The way I'm currently doing it though, they're not signing up for an affiliate offer, they're signing up to get my free ebook. Then I promote several different offers in the newsletter. I'm kind of confused about how you're doing it, because it sounded like they were signing up to your list to learn more about a product. So if you're not giving away something free like a book or report, then why do you have download page?
