Can I market to previous free trial users in this GDPR era?

I've got a couple thousand emails from users that entered a free trial for a SaaS company. All of them would have agreed to a 'Terms and Conditions' before starting the trial. I'd love to be able to still market to this list, but do you think this is not possible with the new GDPR rules? The more I read, the more it seems like it would be okay to still use this list. Any opinions? Thanks!

For GDPR compliance you will need to obtain consent to market to the EU-based emails on your list. So, if your list contains a large number of European cold contacts, I'd suggest concentrating on converting your cold contacts to opt-in.

The GDPR will have an enormous impact on businesses that rely on sending outbound email marketing to European contacts. To stay compliant, it's recommended that you include an easy way for your opt-ins to request their contact records on your website (like on the privacy policy page).

If they are already on the list by subscribing to the list owner for free trial, they already have given their consent. All there is to do from now on, is to make sure they still consent and implement the to tools to reply to data requests from EU users.

Of course you can, they'd already give consent so they don't need to give it again.

The only difference there is now is that you must be able to serve the REQUESTS from EU citizens on your list.

They now have the right to request for what data you hold about them, and you must comply and respond. The, they can ask that you modify and / or DELETE their data and you must also comply and respond adequately in all cases.

The only thing you need to be in compliance with GDPR is explicit consent given to be on the list and an easy unsubscribe method. As long as you have both, you should be free to market to them.
