Are there any potential downsides -legal or otherwise - to cold emailing a large number (one at a time, not using lists) of potential content contributors? For example if I want to ask a lot of therapists to write content for a mental health blog, to have a wide range of perspectives, I am thinking I can just start emailing therapists making a request.

I've been sending cold email for over 18 years.

If you are in the US, you just need to follow can-spam law which is really simple.

There is always the possibility that you could get a spam complaint. However, in your case, I doubt you will have much trouble because you're just asking the recipient if they would be willing to be a blog contributor.

In the past when I have done B2B cold email (I mainly do B2C), I would always start by asking a question that would then lead into what I was promoting. I can't recall ever getting a spam complaint by doing it that way.
