How do you test your email copy?

After coming up with the copy for your email, how do you A/B test different versions of the same email? How do you test to see if it works?

Having a larger list makes it easier to run A/B tests. What some of our users do is split their list in to groups. Let's say you divide a list in to 4 groups, A, B, C, and D.

You would send version 1 to group A and version 2 to group B.

Whichever gets the best results should then be sent to groups C and D.

This is a very basic approach and will give you some idea of what will work better.

Most auto-responders have a split test feature and tutorials on how to use them.

The idea behind testing is to see how your customers react to one or another copy. As mentioned above most service providers such as MailChimp provides that feature. You choose a group of subscribers from your list to be group A and group B whom you send email with different copies. This way you can have analytics about each of the groups and how the copy works. If the list is small, then just test with the entire list to find out what your subscribers are interested in.

Email copy can be tested in a few ways before sending to ensure it will be received and read by the intended audience.

One way to test email copy is to send a test email to yourself and a few others who may be in your target market. This will give you an idea of how the email will look when received, and whether or not people will actually read it.

Another way to test email copy is to use an email marketing service that provides analytics. This way, you can see how many people opened your email, clicked on any links, and unsubscribed. This can give you valuable insights into whether or not your email copy is effective.

Finally, it's always a good idea to A/B test your email copy. This means sending two different versions of your email to a small group of people and seeing which version performs better. This is a great way to fine-tune your email copy and make sure it's as effective as possible

I use Active Campaign and I use a small segment of my list like 1000 to be split in 2 groups, 500/500, I normally choose the winner if the metrics are acceptable (compared to previous campaigns or emails), if not I have to come with another copy
