About 40 % of subscribers are not receiving the welcoming email after opting in. Can anyone be so kind as to tell me why this is happening and what I can do about it?

The first step would be to contact your email service provider. What do they say about this?

I contacted email service provider as you recommended and they said they don't see any deliverability issues because they tested the welcome message and it got in my Primary tab immediately. However, they recommend authenticating domain with DKIM key to improve my deliverability.

I will implement the recommendation and report back here. Thanks a lot for your advice.

Good move. It's always best to make sure the problem isn't something the provider can rectify immediately. It would be difficult for anyone here to come up with solutions without knowing a lot more details.

Yes, getting DKIM and other technical stuff right is essential.

Also be aware that some words like "free", "Million" etc. can increase the chances of an email going to spam. This applies most to the subject line, but to some extent to the body as well.

See if you can find a way to tell your subscribers to check their spam folder for the welcome message, or to WhiteList your email before they subscribe etc.

Some paid services can check your DKIM etc. each day, clean your list, and tell you what words to avoid using in your email. I know InBoxPath does all that, and I presume there are others which do that too.
