Mailchimp CTR issues

I wanted to see if anyone has any insight about some issues I have been experiencing with 1 client in Mailchimp. At the end of August, they saw a nice bump in opens and clicks. Going from about 50% opens and 40% clicks, up to 80-90% opens and clicks. At the beginning of November, the open rate was still around 80-90%, but the clicks dropped to 0.01-1%. I can't find any explanation for it. Especially with open rates still so high.

I can't figure out if open rates are inflated, or clicks aren't accurate. Any thoughts on what could cause this? A change with gmail, or anything that could affect reporting?

  • Have you used the MailChimp help desk? You explained the problem well but the answers you get will be guesses. I would have been concerned when the opens and clicks when up drastically in the fall.

Was there a corresponding increase in SALES when the opens and clicks went UP? (I am assuming the point is to sell something with the email campaign).
  • I found in the past i got the same issues when using a gmail acccount, i actually purchased an actual domain name and that changed everything for my opens and clicks, it shows we have an authority

  • Thanks everyone. We send from a company domain that is authorized in Mailchimp.

I was concerned with the increase, and I am still questioning if those numbers are even correct, but to see that large of a drop in opens with a very engaged group is hard to explain to the client. Support said they didn't have any ideas.
  • You did not answer - are the emails SELLING a product or service....if so, have sales also gone up and down?
  • It's going to salespeople to sell insurance to their clients. Sales have been great. But the client wants an explanation for the drop

    • Here's some explanations:

People might be focused on Christmas.

They might be waiting until January to purchase insurance.

The email campaigns might have become redundant and boring.

Frequency of emails might be bothersome.

      And on and on.

There could be dozens of reasons besides Mailchimp being to blame.
