How to send emails to 60k past customers without being marked as spam?

Hello all,

I am very new to my marketing role for a travel company. My boss is asking me to send out marketing emails to roughly 60k past customers to "wake them up" and avoid being marked as spam. I asked ChatGPT for help, but the instructions seemed highly technical; I am not familiar with a lot of tech jargon and need to get this done soon. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you!

Strange that your boss would ask you do this when you have no experience in that role. Whatever you send, your communications will be representing the company, so it's pretty important you get the message right.

To start with, you need to know how old the list is and when these customers were last contacted. If it's a matter of years, a lot of them won't remember and you might need to start over. If it's just a few months, a special offer based on their previous activity might work.

But if you're unsure, don't wing it. Speak to your boss or another experienced member of staff first.

Thanks, Frank. I do have a copywriting background which is why I have been placed in this role, but just don't have a lot of experience with marketing email campaigns. We are actually probably going to use Constant Contact. I appreciate your reply!

Constant Contact is one of the best companies out there. Some of the others have limits on how much you can send at a time. You should try sending out a few small batches to see if they don't end up being flagged as spam. These are more just opinions based on what used to work here on the forum. Other than Frank Donovan and a few others, I would be wary about who gives advice on the topic.

If ChatGPT gives you highly technical instructions, you
need to tell it to simplify its outputs.

I frequently have to remind it that I am a simple human.

Ask it for a system that has a built-in Ai agent and don't
let the boss know that you are using Ai.

Great advice in this thread already. To add to what Frank mentioned about the list's age, a crucial first step is a "re-engagement campaign."

Instead of sending a marketing offer to all 60k at once, your first email should be very simple, with the goal of just getting a reaction.

Something with a subject line like:

"Are you still interested in travel deals from [Company Name]?"

The body of the email could simply ask them to click a link if they want to stay on the list.

    This does two things:
    1. It shows email providers you're being responsible and not just spamming.
    2. It cleans your list. The people who remain are your most valuable audience.

It's a much safer way to "wake them up" without destroying your sender reputation from day one. Good luck!

Even though it sounds like an AI answer, it's a good ansewer.

Yes, of course. In this case as well it will still be difficult to send 60k emails without segmenting the clients and understanding their level of interest, so that each group can be categorized based on their interests. This way, he can avoid spam. He should also send a welcome email to the list to perform a double opt-in, confirming that the clients are genuinely interested in the service or product. Sending 60k emails is not an easy task, but it's possible if you have a good method.

The most important thing to know is that sending to a big old list all at once will get you marked as spam instantly. Break the list up start by emailing only the people who have been customers in the last year and give them a great "welcomback offer"

First up, clean your list: delete hard bounces, never-messaged addresses. Then segment the 60 k past customers, send value only (not sales spam) and pick good subject lines. According to this guide, email is still gold when it's personal and relevant
