GetResponse nor Aweber allows this? Out of the list building game for a bit; didn't recall this being an issue....Or maybe I've been out of the list building game for too long lol!

Almost no serious, professional autoresponder service with a reasonable delivery-rate is readily going to allow this.

Look at it from their perspective, and from the perspectives of their other clients: how good a delivery-rate, over the long-term, are they really going to maintain, if they allow people to do this?

Aweber say that they look at each request to do this individually, on a case-by-case basis, but the reality is that they almost never allow it, unless you start with just a re-opt-in request. As an Aweber customer, myself, I'm glad they do that, of course, because if they didn't, their delivery-rates for my outgoing email would obviously decline.

GetResponse offers a service where they'll allow you to import a list of your own, not a bought one, and then they'll test a proportion of the list themselves, with something like a re-opt-in request, and see whether there are any spam complaints. And then if all is totally acceptable to them, they may allow you to mail the list without starting with a re-opt-in request (but that's quite rare, I think).

You'll need to prove that they're your own, opted-in leads, with IP numbers etc., and the standard for doing so is going to be high/difficult. And for reasons. If you do find a service that will make it really easy for you, the chances are clearly that they won't be nearly so good at delivering your emails to people's in-boxes (rather than to their "spam"/"junk"/"bulk" folders). It all makes sense: those are, in effect, the two sides of the same coin.

Of course, you can use self-hosted autoresponder software (rather than a hosted autoresponder service) to do this, but then the risks are all yours, instead of someone's else: it's your own hosting, domain-registration and internet connection that are on the line. How confident are you that there'll be no spam complaints?

      Hi Alexa,

Setting the record straight. We check any list imported into GetResponse for quality (usually takes under 2 business days). The majority of imports can be imported without having to re opt-in if they meet the criteria in the link below:

What types of lists can I import? Do my contacts have to reconfirm subscription? - GetResponse Support

If the list quality is on the bubble we may import a random segment of the list and ask the user to send a normal email to them so we can monitor the responsiveness / complaints from that sample group. If they are in the normal range we'll then import the rest of the list.

      Cheers,

      Mick

    Hey,
Why not try Mandril (a group of mailchimp) or S3 amazon. They are transaction email. You can import your email list and send them through teir host and IP.

I tried to do this with a Linkedin list of emails from members that had joined with me. Mailchimp allowed me to upload the list and then promptly suspended my account "to review". Never did reopen.

    Hi JL,

I don't ever encourage adding names of people who haven't asked to be on a list so my recommendations are for sites that allow for what you requested based on having a non-spam list:

Madmimi at https://www.madmimi.com/features/list_management and YMLP at https://www.ymlp.com/features_lists.html will allow this I don't know of any issues with either.

Of course you could just go for managing your own list with a program like ArpReach at arpReach - autoresponder and email marketing software

Important: If these are email addresses of contacts who have not expressly asked to be added to your mailing list (whether or not they've bought from you or contacted you etc) I would still go through the step of asking them formally to subscribe to your list, it's just good etiquette and smart marketing to be certain someone at least wants to hear from you and that you're not just emailing people who largely possibly couldn't care less.

Hope some of this info helps.

I personally would only look into uploading your openers
and clickers to a 3rd party.... and then put the rest on your
own mail server. Just a suggestion.
