Learn Email Marketing

Hi
I am really starting this whole area, and I wanted to know:
How did you start?
Did you take courses/programs/coachs?
What advice would you give someone who's just starting?
Which course do you suggest is best?

Thank you!

I never took a course. I identified a handful of people whom I considered to represent my intended traffic demographics and tested out a bunch of emails on them, collecting feedback and refining the process accordingly.

I don't have a course-recommendation to offer, but here are six interesting Warrior Forum threads which will, between them, probably show you the basic essentials (including some of the ways that people most commonly go wrong) ...

What are the essential things to know about list building?

Just to add to the good post Alexa has made.

One way I learn t 99% of how to use email marketing to make a living from literally from studying in so much detail what successful online marketers do.

Literally studying the way they collect emails and how. Studying what happens when I am on their list (how often i get an email and so forth)

Some of the most comprehensive learning is learning from people who you want to be as successful as.

As much as I believe in reverse engineering and modeling. Some successful marketers are literally spammers. Launch, build list, burn list then repeat with the launch.

I don't know how many successful marketer's list I've jumped on to learn from them but it was probably the biggest disappointed ever. That's just my opinion.

I think the best way will be to start building your own list and emailing to them daily.

You'll begin to get a feel for what works and what doesn't...

And it also gives you a platform to try out any new techniques you pick up along the way.

Anyhow... I'd look at Ben Settle's Email Players.

Just get autoresponder madness and don't look back

After than you'll need to learn traffic. There's an abundance of good trainings on that but the key is to test test test.

In order to master it you need to have:

    1) good list
    2) good delivery
    3) good products/offers

if any of the above is not great its hard.

Really, the question may be coming from the wrong angle. I have an autoresponder sequence that is 13 emails in 13 days. Personally, I think that's too much but I'm detailing an IM training program that extends over 12 weeks and each email stresses the importance of what that particular week's training covers.

Ya see? Rather than come at it from the front end, "What's the best way?", maybe come it at from the backend and ask, "What's best for THIS particular sequence?"

Autoresponder Madness is a good choice of course.

If you want to see what sort of thing you'll learn before buying join one of Andre Chaperon's lists and see the style of story telling emails he sends, it will give you clue as to what he teaches....

Aside from that getting stuck in, building a list, and testing your emails out works well.

Look at what other bloggers, marketers and big companies are doing. Study their emails and see what elements they consist of.

    Test them out.

Over time you'll work out what works best for YOUR audience and produces the best results.

Personally I find injecting personality into my emails works pretty well.

People don't JUST want emails from you pointing back to blog posts or products or even emails with value they like to be entertained, to get an insight into your life, to get to know you.

I learned by doing before, but recently got an awesome course on email marketing from the WSO section.... probably best I ever bought and learned a lot. Actually will be leaving him a review shortly. But yah other than that, practice practice practice.

Great advice here. Unfortunately, TLB is closed for good now.

TLB is not an email marketing course, but it does have one module (which is part of ARM).

ARM is amazing, and I'm enjoying the recent Zentrepreneur Andre Chaperon Masterclass too.

Just reading here can really take you a long way. Sometimes you have to watch out because there can be Charlatans and spammers who frequent.

But after awhile you begin to learn who is credible and who is not.

Also, there are a couple of Courses like Mike Hill's List Building Course A Simple Way to Build Your List | Not aff. link ( the best most comprehensive one I have ever seen, actually) and Paul Nicholls has some excellent Email Marketing products at Warrior Plus.
