A List Building Strategy that's working extremely well for me.

I have not posted on this forum lately; but today, I'm going to share with you the list building strategy that's working extremely well for me. I'm going to keep this really short and simple. Do not ask me to provide proof of my earnings or links to my squeeze pages as I'm not here to sell you anything.

Here are some of my list building dos and don'ts -

** For the giveaway, I rarely use a report that can be downloaded right after they opt in as a high percentage of subscribers will opt out the minute they get their hands on your report.

I usually buy a high quality plr and turn it into a 7 to 10 day e-course. I do not use the PDF format to deliver the course. Instead, I do so via a wordpress private blog. I create a page for each day of the e-course. As I create these pages, I do some rewriting - such as changing the titles and headlines; and writing a small, one paragraph intro or summary of the page. I do not use a membership site.

If you need to know how to keep your blog private - from being indexed by search engines - the video below will show how.

WordPress Tutorial - How to Block Your Site From Search Engines in WordPress - YouTube

** I never redirect people to an offer the minute they opt in. To me, list building is about developing a relationship with your subscribers; sending them to an offer immediately after subscribing is not the best way to start building that long-lasting relationship. I find that waiting at least until the third day before I make them an offer work best in the long term.

Since I only use high quality giveaways, I give them the option to get immediate access to the rest of the course (on the third day) for at least $7.00 ($17-27 if it includes professional, HD videos). I make this offer on the email that goes out to let them know that day 3 has been added to the blog; and at the bottom of that particular e-course page.

__________________________________________________ ________

Here is a trick I learned from the writer of "The 4 Letter Killer", David Bullock; according to David, this eBook was downloaded over 260,000 times. He was great at keeping his subscribers active, happy and anxiously waiting for his next email. I know this for a fact, I was one of those subscribers for over 5 years.

His offer would be something like this: "Hello Frank, I hope you are having a wonderful day. I found something that can really help you with your online business. This system is so good that I decided to buy the rights to it so I can share it with you. Click the link below for complete details. P.S. Don't forget to click on the elephant at the bottom of the page for a nice surprise."

When you clicked on the elephant (pink, purple, blue; don't remember the color), you would be taken to a Paypal payment page where the price would be $10-$20 less than the advertized price. I found myself clicking on that darn elephant and buying his products every Friday morning; our relationship lasted until he stopped sending emails 6 years later. I suspect that there were thousands of elephant clickers on his list.

Later, I found out that the "exclusive product" he bought just for me were resell rights items from the Unselfish Marketer membership site; but this didn't upset me for they were of high quality and I always learned something from them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** On the squeeze page, I always use two fields - First name and email address. Personally, I think that if you want to develop a relationship with your subscriber, you need to make them feel that they are more than just an email address to you.

** For my squeeze page - I use the one that comes with the product or I develop my own using OptimizePress. Most of the private label rights products I purchase provide excellent marketing material. I also use Presell Crusher to create presell surveys landing pages.

** On day 1, I tell my subscribers how important it is for them to stick with the e-course 'til the very end; they get an introduction to the course; my promise to them; what to expect over the next few days, etc. Day 1 is basically a sales or presell letter to the course. It works great! Sometimes, I get emails asking if they can buy the entire course right after they have read Day 1.

** I keep my promises. On my squeeze page, I promise that I'm not going to share their info with other marketers, and I keep it. I keep this promise by not doing ad swaps or selling solo ads.

** I only email my list two times per week - Freebie Tuesday and Bargain Friday. On Tuesday, I sent them something that is related to the course for free. I make sure the info is good before I send it to them. On Friday, I sent them an offer. It could be my own product or a high quality resell rights products.

** I do promote clickbank products within the e-courses. Especially the ones with rebilling. I tell my subscribers that they will be added to a mailing list once they make a purchase; I also remind them that they can get a refund within 60 day and can opt out from the seller's list any time they wish to do so.

** My favorite niche is online marketing / mmo as it offers so many products you can offer; but there is one that I really enjoy, it's the dog training niche. I recently developed a course from an e-book and mp3 I purchased 6 years ago. It's a 15 day course, but by the third day I give the subscriber the option to pay a small price to have immediate access to the rest of the course; I get a lot of takers to this offer - and of course, I practice that "David Bullock thing". I have a picture of a dog at the bottom of the sales page and tell them.... Click on my doggie for a nice surprise"; two things happen when they click on my doggie, 1 - they get a $10 discount and .... 2 - I hear my cash register going crazy ... ching!-ching!-ching!

** I usually buy a new domain name for each course and install wordpress on the root domain and subdomain. The root domain is for the landing and presell pages; the subdomain is for the private blog I use to deliver the course.

** How I promote my e-courses - For each e-course I develop, I create a fan page, a youtube channel and a slideshare account. My goal per day is to upload at least 5 videos to youtube and facebook and 5 presentations to slideshare for the first 7 days. I upload the same videos to youtube and facebook; the power point presentations is basically the same info as in the videos. After 7 days, I have 35 videos on youtube, 35 on facebook, and 35 presentation on slideshare sending free traffic to my e-course squeeze page. Recently, I started buying bookmarking and blog posting gigs from the Warriors For Hire forum and this has greatly increased my traffic and opt ins.

How long does it take to upload each e-course? In less than a day I can have the e-course, fan page, youtube and slideshare account done. I could do much better - but my love for netflix's sci-fi movies will not let me.

About my video marketing - My videos and presentations are not spammy; I do provide useful information. I never had any of my videos banned or deleted by youtube. I use youtube's creative commons on a daily basis. Youtube cc has some great videos that you can use as your own without worrying about copyright infringements. They even provide you with an online editor so that are able to add an intro and ending with your info to these videos. Below is the link to the youtube creative commons video editor.

https://www.youtube.com/editor

As of today, I have 15 e-courses uploaded and getting me subscribers on a daily basis. My initial goal was to get at least 10 subscribers per e-course - per day. I have achieved that - and more. I have found this to be the best and fastest way to $100 per day online.

To get started, you'll need a hosting account, an autoresponder and a high quality plr product. I stay away from free autoresponders - as they are not really free.

If you have any questions - other than asking me for one of my links - don't hesitate to ask.

I leave you with this.....

** As a marketer, you will always be building a list - whether you want to or not. If you are not building a list of your very own .... then .... you are building the lists of the owners of the products you are promoting. Which list do you want to build?

Best Wishes, Frank

  • Thank you so much for sharing such great information, Frank

I really like the idea of creating private blog of ecourse.
"As a marketer, you will always be building a list"... totally agree with you!

  • Thank you very much. i have never really thought of creating an e-course. I think i will start working on that . I just started building my list. so i wanna get my hands dirty on that before advancing into other things.

    • Awesome information Frank. I love the idea of letting them get the first part free then having to pay for the full course. Maybe another way to do this is give a condenced overview version that covers everything and provides value then have a full course that goes deep into each subject.

      Anyways,
      Thank you

    • Hi Chaudhary,

Most of my private label rights products on online marketing / mmo come from jvzoo and the warriors special offer forum. I look for plr products that can be given away for free in exchange of lead. Most high quality plr sellers don't allow you to use it as web content, but will allow you to use the content on a membership site or private blog. When the plr license does not allow me to use the product as I need to, I contact the seller and offer to purchase better rights. I rarely get turned down when I explain how I'm going to use their product.

      Regards, Frank

  • Hi,

You could create a 7-10 day e-course out of those you just shared!

Well done this will go down well with your reputation as someone who gives
    real value to his followers.

    • Hey Jason - the best thing about the e-course approach is that you are building a relationship with your subscribers on autopilot. Once you set up your e-course the rest is easy. There is no need to write big follow up emails during the first 7-10 days - or ever for that matter. My follow ups emails are short, personal and to the point.

Thank you for your clarification. You have open a new window for me.

  • These are great tips Frank.

I'm sure that this leads to more responsive, hungry subscribers that anticipate the email that is coming.

I used to provide the download link to the course right after they opt-in and I paid dearly for it.

The result was a dead list.

Now, I've changed to put the content in the email, and since then I've been getting more responsive subs.

I usually don't give an offer until the15th day.

List-building is all about the relationship, so build that trust early on!

    • Hi Raelyn -
My private blogs are really membership sites, but without the monthly subscription fees. Since there are no monthly fees, people don't drop out. I don't push them into buying anything; I let the content do the selling for me. I provide valuable and up-to-date info and get thanked over and over for it. I make sales on a daily basis from these private blogs by inserting links within the content. When you read an online newspaper or magazine, you are going to see blue links leading to related stories. I use the same techniques and they really work.

      Here is an example.....

"making sales online ...blah...blah...blah... creating your own blog ...blah...blah...blah... . and more......blah...blah...blah...

When they click on the link, they are taken to a post that has an image of my cb earnings per hops that are extremely high. I give them a brief overview of the system that can show them how to develop websites that make sales; I add a link for them to click and next thing you know... there are $44 on my cb account - from just one or two hops!

Free membership sites do work. Do a search on google for "top earning blogs" and you will see. If people would copy what the owners of these blogs are doing, they could be doing just as well if they stick with it for a year or two.

I have been doing e-courses for many years. My first one (2001-2003) was on network marketing training; it had over 40,000 subscribers. It helped me launch 3 hugely successful inhouse programs that kept me busy and making money for almost 9 years.

  • Frank, thanks for sharing. Do you give away half the course for free and then give them the option to buy the rest?
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Niles - They get the entire e-course for free. Most of my money comes from sharing links to cb products (see my post above).

On day 3, I give them the option to buy the course if they want immediate access to all the pages.

As the list grows, I get more and more people wanting immediate access to the entire course the same day they join. Because of this, I have been thinking of moving the full access option to day 2.

  • Hi, Frank.. Thanks a lot for your thread..

Making an e-course is a great thing to keep our subscribers reading followup emails..

Do you use single or double opt-in??

I did it it a couple times and the results is my list become more responsive.. Even after the course finished and i started to send broadcast/newsletters, they keep opening and my CTR went to 5-7%..
I always use single opt-in, (except for buyers list..)

Just wondering if the CTR can be higher when using double opt-in??
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hello jfalxr,
I use double opt-in and let them know that they will be getting their access info to the course by email. When I used single opt-in in the past, I was getting too many spam complains.

  • Thanks a lot for the share.

I picked up 5 different ideas that I can take action on right away.

I was thinking of changing my follow up anyway and you gave me some good ideas.

Have you ever thought of adding adsense to your blog to add some extra revenue?

I started sending all my non T1 subs to blog posts with adsense and the resuts have been very good. Just a thought.

Well better get to work on this! Thanks again

    • Hi - I'm happy you got some good ideas from this thread.

About adsense - A few years ago I created 50 blogs hoping to make $1-$5 from adsense per day per blog. Only 5 of those blogs went on to reach my desired income goal; and those were the blogs that I updated with a new post at least once a week. The ones that I didn't update -- because I was not interested or didn't know much about the niches -- only made about a buck a month.

Thanks to adsense, I developed what I call the "Adsense Mentality". In other words, I'm still building a whole bunch of sites every time an ideas comes to mind. No so long ago I wanted to create a cb product reviews site. The adsense metality took over and I went on to built 10 of them. The ones that I worked on once-in-while (3 of them) made money on a regular basis; the rest ... a few sales here and there.

The same thing happened when I decided to going back to creating e-courses. I went on to create 15 of them and found myself unable to manage all of them. I had to train a part-timer to provide support and answer questions. My first e-course had over 40,000 subscribers and helped me launch 3 fabulous programs - but once again - thanks to my adsense mentality - I forgot that 1 blog could make as much money as 15 of them - if you stay on top of it.

The way you are using adsense is one of the best ways to do it. But also, don't hesitate to add an affiliate offer to your post. It could be the difference between making $5 a day or $50 per day.

Don't use banners on your post as most people suffer from "banner blindness". I'm one of them; I don't even read banners any more. Instead do your links like I show on post #18 above.

      Have a great day.

      - Frank -

How would you apply this to a postcard marketing for dentists business...where I would be looking for ways to build a dentist list for future postcard mailing opportunities?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [2] replies
    • Hi there - As usual, I going to tell you a little story before answering your questions. I do have lots of stories to tell.

Postcards are my all-time favorite way of building a business. It's also how I met my second wife. To this day, I don't know what impressed her the most about me; my good looks or the fact that I had a big a$$ stack of $1 bill piled up in front of me. hahaha.

During the mid 80's and late 90's, I built 2 huge mlm downlines (Life Plus and Changes International) mailing two of the most response-getting postcards ever. I was mailing about 60,000 postcards per month myself and asking for $2 to cover the cost of mailing them the package. The $2 request was also a way of separating the good prospects from the freebie-seekers. I was also sending out packets on behalf of my organizations. Every time I went to the post office, the clerk would hand me a box full of letters - each containing 2 bucks. Each packet was costing me about 46 cents for printing and mailing.

My next thread will be on how I built an offline affiliate program in the early 90's.

And now to answer your questions. If you are going to be providing a service to dentists, you can contact them by email messages and by postcards. Your email and mailing list can be compiled by doing a google search (dentists in new york , etc.). Google will provide you with a never ending list of prospects.

Most businesses will not respond to emails, Some get hundreds of spam per day and it's more than likely that your message will be treated as a spam - and deleted with the rest. I for one will never purchase anything from people who send me unsolicited emails - and there are lots of business owners who feel the same way.

Postcard mailers get treated better. I get a postcards once a while and if the offer can be useful to my business, that postcard will stay at my desk for a while.

I always used yellow stock paper for my postcards. I tested different headlines and bullet points until I found the pc that was getting the most responses.

Compiling your mailing list - you can use MS Word's Envelope and Labels tool - which you can find under the mailing tab. Use the 30 per sheet label template. You can find 30 names to mail to within the first 3-5 pages of your search. You can get peel-and-stick labels at walmart or any other supply store in your area. Adding the names to labels and getting ready the postcards to be mailed can be done in 30-45 minutes (maybe less). You are going to find that it might take several mailings before a person order from you; thus, mailing to the same list more than once will work.

Do one website per niche. Try to sell them a service they would need on a monthly basis. The cost of printing and mailing 1000 postcards can be less than 40 cents per card (.34 cent stamp and about .03 per card). Make sure that one order from your mailing can cover these expenses. Don't order the postcards from your local printer. You can get them for much less online.

Most off-line wso sellers will tell you that you can get rich by sending 30 unsolicited emails per day; I think that you would probably do much better by sending 30 postcards per day - as postcards will be kept a lot longer than spam emails.

      Take care, Frank

      • [ 2 ] Thanks
      • [1] reply
    • This is wholly dependent upon the product/service you will be marketing to them in the future. However if you structure your emails to be short, personalized, and inquiring about something (relatable to your product) -- then you will get responses.

It might take more email exchanges to transition them into your funnel, but this is marketing to business, not consumers --- so you will have to slow things down, take your time to develop a conversation.

I've had success by simply soliciting a referral for the decision maker there. Pretty straight forward: just ask who the best person is to answer your question about "x". For example, if I were marketing, say some accounting software for dentists that has some unique features that helps them handle past due accoutns, then I'd initially ask for a referral this way:
      "Hi,

Who would be the best person there to ask a question about delinquent accounts?

      Thanks,
      Jim"
      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I love the elephant thing. Will have to try that.

    • Hello Stuart - that "elephant thing" works.

I use a a dog. I didn't add it to my offer last week and didn't have many takers. One lady wrote back and asked, "where is the little pooch?
I send a second email ... "sorry about my doggie. He is waiting for you now".

Once you get your subscribers used to something, you need to continue doing it.

      Best Regards, Frank

  • I'd be interested to learn more about how you use cc in your videos. If I search for my niche on that youtube editor, I see a lot of "talking head" type videos. Is that something you would use? Or is there something else I should be looking for?
    • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Dan - Depending on the niche, I always find 10-20 videos that can be added to my channel. For some niches you are going to find less. I created and intro and closing for each e-course using camtasia and add them to each video I edit. For those who don't have camtasia to create the intro, windows moviemaker or power point video templates like the ones sold on the wso forum will work just as well. Also, the youtube editor allows you to add text at the beginning and end of the videos.

  • Hi uwa223,

Thanks for the great post. May I ask you some questions.
    I didn't understand the model.

Do you provide a link to the post in your email every day and if someone purchase the course they can download it immediately.

Or do you send them all links to the posts at once?

I missed that part. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hello Ivantk - your questions are are fine and they will help me explain what I do much better.

"Do you provide a link to the post in your email every day and if someone purchase the course they can download it immediately." This is correct.

Or do you send them all links to the posts at once? No;they get the link to the posts or pages one day at at time. If the e-course is 10 day long, the subscribers will get one email per day for 10 days.

They only see the post and pages I want them to see. Each page will have links to past pages. For example: the day 4 page will have links to page 1, 2, 3 in case they missed the email from previous days.

      Regards, Frank

  • Here is a question for you - Ladies & Gentlemen. You can thank me later. hahaha.

What can the weight loss niche and your e-course (any e-course you can think of - kite flying, bird watching, dog training, make money online, getting your ex back, etc.) do for you?

Here is the answer: "Make you a ton of money!!!"

Here are some facts you need to know:
-68.5% of your subscribers are overweight.
    -34.9% are obese.
    -6.4% are extremely obese.

(*From the U.S. Prevalence of Adult Overweight and Obesity report - NHANES 2011-2012)

Weight loss is what I call a universal niche. The same term applies to the make money online niche.
There are two things most people on this planet want: (1) they want to look sverte and (2) they want to have money in their wallets.

One of my dog training course subscribers was talking about her lazy and overweight husband. I closed my eyes for a moment and imagined all the money coming into my clickbank account thanks to her. Armed with the above facts, I posted my "how I lost 15 pounds in 30 day" story I wrote 5 years ago and within the hour, the green bar in my cb account started getting bigger and bigger. That post is available for every one who joins; and sales are coming in on a daily basis.

It cannot get any better than this ----- My dog training course is selling weight loss products for me!
    Life is great!!
    • [ 7 ] Thanks
  • Yeah, that's is absolutely correct. There are no untargeted visitors for the weight loss niche. And it will become even better in the next years.

By the way, I am gonna try this method for gaining subscribers and selling products, it is simply great!

I am also thinking what if I create several related courses and give an upsell offer to the subscribers to get all courses for XXX. You can also get creative by offering them the reseller rights for even better price.

I think it is possible to cash a lot more form the same amount of subscribers that way.

    • Hi Ivantk - Here are 2 things you need to do before you start your e-course/blogging adventure...

1 - Read post #18 about the "adsense mentality". I created 15 blogs and e-courses; when all I needed was just one or - maybe - two. It took me 15 weeks to develop these blogs, e-courses, promo videos and slideshare presentation. If I would have built just one blog and used the other 14 weeks to work on it, I would probably be earning just as much - be less tire and have more free time to do other things. I did accomplish my goal of 10 subscribers per day per blog from free traffic.... but all this work took its toll and until a few days ago, I felt totally burned out.

      2. Go to google and enter "top earnings blogs - make money online blogging" and you will see that there are people earnings fabulous incomes with just one blog. Many are earnings over $100.000 a month. You can learn a lot by visiting and spending time studying these blogs. If you choose the right niche and work diligently and intelligently for the next six month, you could be earning a life changing income by then. It may not be as big as the $2,330,000 per month the owner of the Huffington Post is making, but $2,330.00 per week is not impossible.
      Best Wishes, Frank

  • Hey Frank. Epic post. Just a question about the facebook fan page and videos that you post on them. Do you use the fan page and go out and get likes with it or do you drive traffic to it. Just wondering with a new page and 0 likes how does it help your traffic? Maybe I just don't understand the fan pages. I know with youtube it will show up in searches. Not sure with facebook. Thank you for your time and like I said this is an EPIC post.

    • Thanks John - I have many fans pages with lots of fans. By just posting a link on one of these pages, I can get 100s of fans for a new fan page. I also add the fan page link to each video description and slideshare profile. There are many ways to get likes for your fan page without spending a dime. If you do a search on youtube, your are going to find lots of of videos on how to get free traffic and likes for your fan page. Make sure to never use pay-for-likes websites or fiverr gigs. They are just a waste of time and money.
      Best Regards, Frank

  • Another question for you about list management Frank. I have lists colliding with lists and it drives me a little crazy sometimes. I just want to combine them all haha. When you have a new subscriber for a course do you have two lists for them one for the course and one for the freebie tuesday and bargain friday or is that part of your auto-responder messages. My problem is that I have a list that I have so many auto responder messages it would take a new subscriber 9 months to reach the end but i feel one day some of the first messages may get outdated. I hope you understand what I am getting at here.
    • [1] reply
    • Hi John - I know the feeling. A few years ago I loaded my autoresponder with 52 newsletters; a short time later, the programs I was promoting decided no to continue the affiliate programs.

With the e-courses, I don't have this problem. My follow ups are simple emails letting my subscribers know that the info they've been expecting is now available. If the e-course is about twitter marketing and twitter releases a new update, all I need to do is edit one or two blog pages - instead of a whole bunch of follow ups.

I have two lists per e-course; freebies and buyers. When a subscribers buy immediate access to course or another one of my products, they get added to the buyers list and deleted from the freebie list. The autoresponder does this automatically.

I have been thinking of discontinuing Freebie Tuesday as I'm already providing plenty of free info. Bargain Friday adds cash to my paypal acct every Friday. They are not part of the follow up sequence.

I hope that I provided the answers you were seeking; if not, don't hesitate to make another post.

  • No that answers my question. I'm happy to hear the frustration that others have also. Haha. I have been doing broadcast only lately and has been doing fairly well. Just trying to find a way to keep all subscribers in my list but be able to tag them maybe with AWProtools when they purchase something. That way I can exclude them on certain emails. I like your idea also. Gotta test the waters for a little while.

  • Just wondering how did you attach the dog image in your email? Thank you so much. Is it an attached jpg?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hello Raelyn - Please excuse me for taking so long to respond.

I don't attach any images to my emails (but you can if you wanted to). The image of my dog is at the bottom of the sales letter - close to the product price).

On the email messages, I use postscripts. Something like this ....

"P.S. Don't forget to click on my doggie at the bottom of the page for a really nice surprise. You will not be disappointed!"

I also use it on offers placed on the pages of the e-courses.....
"Do I need to remind you to click on fido?"

I have tested this by not adding it to some of my offers and people do write back asking, "Where is the doggie? Is there a discount?"

Once you get your subscribers used to this and leave it out of an offer, they will contact you.

Postscripts not only work great for sales pages, but they work great on email as well.

A short email message with a postscript works for me almost every time. I leave the long stuff for the e-course pages.

Raelyn.... My very best wishes to you.

      - Frank

    1. Thanks a million for sharing this info...which I may consider like a WSO package. I hope you get the reward for sharing.

    2. I have questions as well. After you completed let's say 7 days of e course, what happen to your list? Will you after that broadcast promotions or continue creating other ecourse?

    3. Another question is related to post #48. I don't quite get it. Do you mean that you offer your exisiting list something else like weight lost to build a new niche list? Which means from MMO to weight lost? Hope you can please enlighten me on this.

Thanks a lot again. Can't wait for new update from you.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Alzack,
What I do after the 7 days over - or however long the course is - is to continue providing valuable information to my subscribers. For my dog training e-course, I can go on posting good content for many years to come. I have a hard-drive full e-books on dog training and maybe about 1500 articles on the subject as well; thus, I have more than enough content to keep my subscriber happy for many years into the future. When I need content, I 'll take an e-book and go through it and if I find something interesting, I would consider adding the info to the member's area. I just don't add it as is; I make changes to it; I make the info more personal. If I'm not sure the info is correct, I search for reliable sources. My subscribers have labeled me an expert and that labeling is keeping my paypal, clickbank and amazon acct quite busy.

About post #48 - Although, I have an e-course on weight loss, I have never shared it with the people who joined my dog training blog. You could if you want to, but for now, I won't.

When one of my subscribers opened the door for me by telling the group how lazy and fat her husband was getting, I jumped on the opportunity and shared my weight loss success story with the group. I posted my story and linked it to an expensive clickbank product with a very low refund rate. That post is still making sales on a daily basis - and it has nothing to do with training fido. But there are statistics that say that about 70% of the population is overweight - which means that 70% of my dog loving subscribers need to lose a few pounds as well. My clickbank account is showing me that my assumptions were correct.

      Thanks for your questions,
      Frank

  • Thank you for sharing this.

I do have a question though as I do sell solo ads and I email my list freqently.. Is there any way which you can think of how I could do this without putting an end to my solo ad business?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Javisito,
Like I said on the post above, I don't do solo ads - but have nothing against those that earn their money that way.

If you do things right, you will not have to do solo ads with this list. Once you get this type of list building in motion, you will get a plenty of sales from your members area without sending any emails.

I would suggest that you keep your solo blast list and the e-course list separate.

      Have a wonderful day,
      Frank

  • About a week or two ago.... I said that I would share a case study, but what I'm about to share with you today, cannot be qualified as a case study. I'm going to call it a feel-good-story. I think I told you guys how I love telling stories.... right? Here's another one.

About two months ago, I overheard my neighbor telling his wife to stop feeding the strait cats from the neighborhood because she was spending money that could be used on something more important. She has been married to this grouch for over 40 years and probably has not enjoyed a full day of happiness during those 40 years. Feeding these cats is about the only thing she enjoys in life and now the grouch wanted to end that as well. I felt the need to do something about that; because I also like cats. They say that owning a pet will extend your life by many years.

I asked her if I could help her feed the cats since I also was a cat lover myself and she promptly agreed. That very same day, I went to the store bough two large bags of purina cat chow and several toys and these homeless cats are now happier than ever!

She's always snapping pics of the cats with her cell phone and sharing them with her family. I told her that it would be easier to share her photos with everyone if she had a facebook acct. She said that all her kids and grandchildren were on facebook, but that the "grouch" thought it was a waste of time. I told her that I would help her set up an acct in a few minutes and all she had to do was spend a few minutes a day sharing her pics and staying in touch with her friends and family. I helped set up her profile and showed her how to upload photos and search for friends and family. A week later I looked at her profile and her list of friends had grown to over 200! Her photos of cats were bringing lots of visitors and requests

She didn't know it just yet, but she was on the way to earning a nice monthly income - for doing something she loved doing. To get her started I said, "do you know that there is a way for you to get your cat food for free?" and she responded, "Frank, I hope you are not trying to recruit me into another mlm deal." I assured her that it had nothing to do with mlm and that within a month or two, she would be earning several hundred dollars per month. The "grouch didn't like the idea, but we went ahead anyway.

We created a fb group and a fan page first. A day later, we bought a domain and set up two blogs - one public and the other private. The auto responder would come later since she was building a list of fans and group members on FB already. I showed her how to join other groups and fan pages. She posted valuable info and photos on these groups' walls and started getting others to join her group and fan page. Her group has over3000 menbers and her fan page is getting 50-100 likes per day from people who enjoy her stories and tips.

After two weeks of getting sick from hearing the grouch complaining all day long, the first sale came in from a cb product that pays about $17 commission. This set her on fire! a week later, she had 2 back-to-back $100 day - $101 from clcikbank and $127 from amazon. I almost fell of the chair when she asked if she could switch the name of the accounts to her husband's name because when they got married, he told her that she no longer needed a bank account of her own. I told her it was too late and that she would have to open an account of her very own.

To end this story before it gets any longer.... this past month she earned over $800 from amazon, cb and from an ebook she is selling for $7. And now she has several hundred fans waiting for her next ebook - after she posted on her group and fan page wall, "how I'm earning $800 a month from home doing something I really love and enjoy". And to think that 60 days ago, she didn't know anything about fb, forums or making money online.

What about you? What's your story?
    • [ 11 ] Thanks

    • Great story, great sharing. This case study alone can be valuable since it may contain some specific step by step approach. Hope there is a more detail story of this case study.

You are very kind to help her Frank.

  • Frank.... What can I say?

    This is PURE GOLD.

And giving all this away for free? You are truly THE MAN!!

Thanks for this one, its given me some ideas I'll be implementing right away and tracking the results. This adds more value than probably 80-90% of any list building WSO that's been released here...

And I gotta thank Phill Wess for posting the link to this thread up on FB or I would have skipped right over it (hell, I did already for the last few weeks since you posted it!)

  • Hey Frank,

your post really was literally mind blowing. I had just written the whole strategy for my new website and after reading that post wiped the whole structure and notes from the whiteboard. You gave me that final touch on how to combine website + membership (free) + autoresponder sequence.

I haven't tried it yet, but the strategy makes perfect sense and actually works (for you, and I'm sure for many others)

So thank you again for sharing all that value selflessly.

  • Selecting the right e-course when getting started.

You need to choose something that your subscribers and fans will be happy to share with others. If your e-course is about curing yeast infection or herpes, you are not going to find too many people willing to share this information with their friends; I make good money promoting these types of products using pay per clicks, but you will never find me sharing or liking fb pages or groups having anything to do with these health issues. If you do, it's almost like admitting that you are infected. Not me! No siree!

The same applies to the make money online opportunities. People will not share your fan page or posts with their friends on facebook. I guess they are afraid of what their friends would think. If you were to create a fan page on this niche, it's not going to be easy to get fans as you will have to get most of the fans yourself.

Here are 3 things I do before launching an e-course -
1 - I search the clickbank marketplace for a niche or product that people wouldn't mind liking or sharing on facebook. As and example we will search the self-help category; We like the law of attraction niche.
2 - We go to facebook and search "law of attraction" and see that there are pages that have hundreds of thousands - even millions - of fans. I'm willing to bet that most of these fans were referred by others. The owners did some work at the beginning and then these pages went viral.
3 - I look for a good plr product on the subject and rewrite it as I create the blog pages. I find that rewriting is easier for me as I post the article or chapter. I also like to do it in the morning when my mind is rested.

    It is that simple.

  • Hi Frank, Great post that really does give an excellent model to implement. I have been doing a number of experiments and coming to the same conclusions. You have short cut my journey by more then 12 months of further trial and error I would guess. Thanks again!

    • I'm glad you have found this thread helpful. There are not too many shortcuts to making money online; building a list is one of the few available. There is nothing better than being able to send an email and see the money coming into your account a short time later.

For me this is a 3 year plan. I do not see this as a way for making money fast; I see it as shortcut to an early retirement; a condo or house by the sea.

Here is a perfect example of how much people are willing to pay for these blogs once they are established.......

On May 9, 2005, Arianna Huffington launched the Huffington Post, a news aggregator blog. At first the content were rss news feeds and copying and pasting articles from online newspaper and magazine - nothing original.

On February 05, 2011, AOL wanted her blog and was willing to pay over $300,000,000 - 315 millions to be exact. It all got started with an inexpensive domain, hosting and some rss feeds from news sources - and six year later, she sold what she started for about the cost of dinner for two for 315 millions!

A few weeks ago, a good friend needed money and sold 3 of her blogs to a private buyer for over $90,000. She created these blogs about a year or so ago and together they earned her less than $3000 per months. The person who bought them was willing to pay 30 times more than these blogs were earning.

      • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • Fantastic post. The forum needs more of this. Here are some followup questions for you:

    1) Are you using upsells/downsells after your sales?

    2) Are you offering any type of coaching or high ticket items deeper into your relationship?

    3) You mentioned you have 15 e-courses and each one has it's own unique Fanpage, YouTube, Slideshare, domain, etc. I'm curious why you're approaching it from this angle instead of building one universal brand/domain with the landing pages located in sub-directories or WordPress pages. Is it for SEO? It seems like it's more work building these e-courses from scratch each time.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Thank you Jesus -
I pretty much follow the same procedures I posted here with all my list building strategies.

I never send subscribers to an offer as soon as they opt in. I do have one or two offers on the download page. If the free offers is about facebook ads, I will have an e-book for $9.95 and HD video course for $27.00 - both offers are related to the free offer.

I make sure that what I offer free is of high quality. I usually give away the best chapter of my ebook or the best video of my video course. Right below the download links, I tell them, "if you liked this video, you can get the rest of the course by clicking here. etc."

At this time, I'm not offering any coaching. I spend most of my time traveling and don't have the time to set up a coaching program. Most of the product I sell are in the $9.95 to $97.00 range. I rarely get any refund requests as I don't make absurd income promises. My product would not do well on forums as my headline would not be found attractive by most members. This is what sells on most forum..... "Make $10,000 a month working just 10 minutes a day - no website or list needed." These sellers are telling the buyers what they want to hear: Make big money overnight without having to do any work. People just love to be told that they don't have to build a website to make big money online.

I have 15 e-courses - soon to be 13 as I'm exchanging two of them for a 1974 Corvette T-Tops. I had the same model in NYC back in 1987 and really enjoyed driving that car. My neighbor and his wife are getting my golf and gardening blogs and I'm getting the corvette he wanted to sell me for $35,000. The blogs will keep them busy and making a nice monthly income for doing something they love. She has one the most beautiful garden I have ever seen and he gives golf lessons to seniors.

I used separate domains because I plan to sell these blogs in 2-3 years. Once the initial set up is done the rest is much easier. I have a local girl working part-time for me. It only takes a few hours per day to to update the blogs, answer questions and post new offers.

I hope I answered all your questions,
      Frank

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Another success story ---
Another friend started a blog about the 15 best places to visit while on vacation in her country. Most of her earnings come from charging hotel and resort owners for being on the top 15 list. Her blog is very popular and she is making about $30K a month from it. The resort at the top of the list is paying her $5,000 a month to stay there. This blog is worth over $250,000 today; but she will not sell it. She started it about 3 years ago; invested about $30 for domain and hosting the first year; all the images she used at first came from public domain sources.
  • Monetizing your blog -
One of the best ways to monetize blogs is by creating product rank lists; such as:
"10 best rated tablets", "3 top selling cell phones". best mountain bikes", "5 best microwave ovens", best rated washing machines", etc.

You are taught to use the name of the product as your title, but most people are not searching for product names when on google. If they are looking to buy a camera, they will enter something like "best rated digital camera" - rarely would you see someone searching for "Nikon D3200 24.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera Review".

Just about all of my blogs make me money from these rank lists. The best thing is that I'm not even reviewing these products. I do a brief description of each product - consisting of 100 to 150 words per product - which I take from the product's sales page.

This is one of the easiest way to make money from your blog
    • [ 3 ] Thanks

  • Thanks, Frank. More questions if you don't mind. I'm trying to fill in the gaps.

    You mentioned:

Care to share any of the bookmark or blog posting providers? It's hard to find good ones. Also, are you linking straight to your blog, or to your YouTube, Facebook and Slideshare properties?

Do you feel you could pull off your traffic strategy without Facebook and only SlideShare and YouTube?

What's your FB posting strategy like (besides uploading the videos)?

After the 35/35/35 are submitted in the first week, what does your maintenance schedule look like? It sounds like you're uploading daily to YouTube but what about the others?

The YouTube Creative Commons part threw me off a bit. Can you expand on that? I understand what CC is, I just don't understand how you're using it in YouTube to expand your business.

    • Hello Jesus - I stay away from recommending seo service providers on forums. You should do a search for the services you want on the Warriors for hire forum; bookmarking, blog posting, etc. There is one gentleman that I'm going to be buying seo services from in the near future. His user name is GyuMan82 and his thread has over 70 pages of comments and reorders. Reading his opening post and the last few pages of his thread will help you make a wise decision. Once again, I'm not endorsing any seo service providers. I'm just giving you a name - the rest is up to you.

On facebook - I think every business should have a page. I have not spent any money on fb ads for my e-courses, but I'm getting a good amount of traffic to my landing pages; mostly from subscribers sharing my e-courses with friends and family. You can create a fb page, add a few posts and images to it in less than 20 minutes. I get a lot of traffic from my youtube channels and slideshare presentations. By listing my fb page on these properties, I'm getting lots of visitors to my fb pages. I use a like gateway as my fb landing page.

After the initial work is accomplished - maintaining these blogs and properties is keeping me busy for at least 4-6 hours per day. You can do a lot in 4 hours if you concentrate on what needs to be done. During those 4 hours, I let the answering machine answer calls, I do not check my emails or get on fb to see what my friends are up to. It's all about accomplishing my daily goals. The same applies to the young lady who works with me. We switch jobs on a daily basis. One day I work on fb and youtube and she would works on the public and private blogs.

On fb, you must keep people engaged. We spend about 15 minutes per page each day; answering questions, thanking fans for their comments and posting something of interest. On youtube, I upload 1 video per week to each channel, thanks people fro their comments and remove spams.

Below is a video tutorial for using youtube's creative commons. Since this video was made, youtube has made some changes to their menu and interface.

To get to the creative commons area, you need to log into your account. Click on "Upload" and then on "Video Editor" to access the creative commons videos.

The video below is not mine, but I'm sure you will find it helpful. Do a search on how to use creatives common videos as there are plenty of tutorials on the subject.

  • Hey Frank,

Cool thread and super info you've shared.

When you have your bargain day every week how do you seek out these -10$ offers? Do you contact vendors and ask for a discount for your list or do you offer a product you own every week at a discount?

Also these videos you upload every week are they powerpoint recordings with info or do you go out and shoot videos on how to train your dog, grow the most beautiful roses, perfect your golf swing...?

Thanks in advance and love this thread you started, you provide more free value then what is sold on most BS wso's, just my 0,02$

    • Hey Liquid Ice,
On a post above I stated that I work 4-6 hours per day on these blogs, but these hours are spent on maintaining them only. I do spend more hours per week preparing offers, specially for blogs that have to do with online marketing. I buy the rights to resell products that offer good values. I don't mind spending $50 to $100 purchasing the resell rights to a products that can make me money for the long term. I also use high-quality plr products. I'm not talking about crappy plr products here; These plrs are of great quality and just one of them can keep your business going for several years.

For blogs that are not about Internet marketing, I use mainly resell rights products as my offers. I also rely a great deal on products sold on amazon. If my blogs is about "best places to enjoy a nice vacation", I would sent emails about cameras, sun glasses, things that people might need while on vacation. These blogs would also have posts or pages such as "5 best digital cameras", "best cell phones and tablets to take with you while traveling". etc.

My video are mostly powerpoint presentations with inserts from other videos. I edit videos from youtube creative commons that are related to my blogs. After I'm done editing these videos, they really look good. I have an intro and a call to action for each of the e-courses that I use when editing these videos.

There is a video on one of my post above that can show how to do these things.

      Thanks kind words,
      Frank

  • Hi Sandytuff. I'm glad you like what I'm sharing. I don't mind sharing what I know and what's working for me. But as I stated on the first post, I'm not here trying to get people to optin to my list or to buy something from me; therefore, I will not be sharing any links to my blogs or fan pages on this thread.

  • I'm getting questions by pm on posts # 107 and 108 and decided to answer them here.

1 - In your success story example of the 15 best places to visit while on vacation in her country, how many pages does the blog have to get $30k per month?
At first, she only had a few pages as the blog was not originally set up to cater to hotels and resorts owners; most of the pages were added after the second year; now it has hundreds of posts, pages and comments from people that stayed at the places she recommends.

2 - Is there a large email component to the blog or is it mainly just the blog?
She does have a nice size email list as she is giving away a free report and tips.

3 - Is your friend with the travel blog selling an e-book or promoting affiliate programs?
Like many marketers, she set up her blog thinking she was going to get rich selling a $7.00 e-book; when she didn't strike it rich with her ebook, she started promoting travel affiliate programs, but that didn't work either. She thought about not renewing the domain after the first year, but I convinced her to give it one more year; that I was going to help her earn a good yearly income from it.

4 - How does she get her offline customers?
I got her the first 5 customers; people who owned bed & breakfast and hotels that had less than 20 rooms or suites. I had stayed at these places on many occasions and most of the times, more than 2/3 of the rooms were empty. When I told them that I knew someone that could help them make an extra $5K-$10k a month for about $500 per month to cover ads feeds and other expenses, 5 of them send her the money a few days later.

4 - Are you willing to give an example of the type of blog it is?
As stated above, it's wp blog recommending cities, hotels and resorts.

5 - Is she paying for traffic to the blog?
Yes, she spent from $5k-$10K a month on press releases and fb ads.

6 - With the blogs that were sold for $90k what made them worth 30 times their monthly rather than 10 times monthly incomes?
She was not doing a good job of monetizing her blogs and I told her so. I made some suggestions, but she wouldn't listen. The person who purchased these blogs saw the potential to make much more than she was making.

  • So Frank, how did you stumble upon this concept? Was it through testing ecourses vs ebooks? Or did you observe and mirror someone else's success?

Also, when posting to SlideShare and YouTube, I suspect you're capitalizing on keywords. How do you find them and decide on the best ones to use?
    • [1] reply
    • Hello Jesus - I chose e-courses over e-book as giveaways because I wanted to create web assets while building my list. The e-courses has helped me to accomplish both of these goals; plus, it has made it easier for me to build an engaging and long-lasting relationship with my subscribers - without spending most of the week writing long and tedious follow up messages.

As for keywords - I use the google planner tool for keywords ideas. I also use ubersuggest.org, a free keyword suggestion tool. I prefer long tail keywords that are getting at least 1,000 exact searches per month.
      Best Regards, Frank

    • Hi Gedeon - Thank you for your kind words,
It seems like traffic is coming from everywhere these days.
I do get a good amount of traffic - about 25% - from social bookmarking sites and blog posting. Youtube and slideshare have always been great for getting traffic to blogs. Facebook started slowly since I was not buying ads; but now I get a good amount of traffic from them due to my subscribers sharing my landing pages and blogs with their friends.

I was not expecting much from google, but recently I have been getting traffic from them as well.

      Have a nice day, Frank

P.S. I do spend about $25 per month per site for backlinking and traffic (mainly social bookmarking and blog posting.

From a beginner to list building (who is struggling a little bit) I want to truly thank you for this great post. This gives me some insight and ideas to switch up the whole free ebook or report deal as I have watched what you explain happen. Get their gift... Log out...

I have a question about follow-ups, as I am not a copywriter. What would you say is the best way to start forming a relationship through a follow up sequence? Everything that I have tried has just gone unopened.

    Thanks,
    Jeff
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • HI Jeff - Establishing a good relationship with your subscribers starts with the product you are giving away in exchange for their email addresses. It needs to be of high quality. A lousy product will get you lousy results. If the initial product you use to start building your list is something that doesn't provide good value, you are not going to get many - if any - of your follow up messages read.

There can be so many factors as to why your emails are not getting open. You need to analyze your list building strategies from beginning to end..

You can start by asking yourself these questions ....
"If I was the subscriber instead of the list owner, would I be satisfied with what I'm are getting for subscribing?"
Am I delivering what I have initially promised on my squeeze page?
Am I sending too many offers or too messages to these people?
If you don't like the answers your getting, then you need to make the necessary changes.

I would also suggest that you take time to improve your copywriting as it can be the difference between success and failure in list building / online marketing.

      Best Wishes, Frank

  • Is the strategy will be helpful for a soccer news website?
    • [1] reply
    • Hello Mike -
None of my e-courses are on sports; thus, I cannot predict how this strategy would work for a soccer news site; but if you make the right offers to your visitors, they will subscribe. Since you love soccer so much, perhaps you can develop a good monthly newsletter for your subscribers.

A few years back, I was selling sports tickets online and wanted to give away books or reports to bring customers to the site; the only plr book I found on soccer was "Soccer Fitness", which had to do with getting in shape or becoming soccer fit. I looked a few minutes ago and it's still available on some of the plr sites. Maybe you can improve this book and use it as your giveaway.

If you are looking to rank for "soccer news", it might be a bit difficult. Unless you are there already, it might be hard to get on page one of google as the page is dominated by channels such as espn, nbc, national and international newspapers and magazines. But your site can still be a huge success - even if you don't rank within the first 10 pages. I, for one, don't worry much about ranking on page one as I don't rely on google for my traffic.

Wishing you great success with your soccer news site,
      Frank

    • [1] reply
    • Hello Johnec - Although this thread is not about looking at people's websites. I gave yours a look over and have some suggestions for you. I have worked with and owned several Spanish magazines - one about news in Colombia and Venezuela and the other was for men who wanted to marry women from Latin America.

Here are some of my suggestions for you -
      1. The home page is too crowded. Look at other magazines or newspapers and see how their home pages are structured and redo yours. I would leave some ad space for Google Adsense.
      2. Your domain trafficnews.ec and main keyword, "traffic news", do not reflect the content on your site. When people search for "traffic news", they expect to find news about ground or local traffic, not a site on tourism and air traffic. Your main keyword gets 200,000 searches per month, but these people are not finding what they are searching for on your website.
      3. your other 2 keywords, which are related to your content, "noticias de turismos" and "noticias turisticas" are only getting 2900 and 880 searches per month. That's not enough.

I suggest that you make your home page less crowded, get a better domain name and better keywords to help build a targeted list and get this website moving in the right direction.

Another suggestions.... Build yourself a website about news in Colombia Venezuela and Ecuador and in 5 years you will be a millionaire. Two sites that were build a few years ago, Lapatilla.com and Dolartoday.com are each worth well over a millions dollar today.

Noticias24.com was purchased by the venezuelan government because it was printing news against chavez. The word is that noticias24 sold for over $10 million dollars. It was started from home by a husband and and wife team for the cost of a domain name. The site lost have of its visitors in the last 3 years, but are still getting over 3 million unique visitors per month.
      Buena Suerte,
      Frank

I share a Netflix account with my son and all I hear all day is - "Dad, I cannot believe you watched that movie." After I gave "the creature from the black lagoon" 5 stars and it showed on his Facebook profile, he just couldn't take it anymore. The next day he separated the accounts.

  • I have been receiving pm's with questions and I'm going to answer them here and share the answers with everyone.

-- What are your plans for these sites?
The plan is to sell everything in 3 years. It would be best if I could sell everything to one person. Two people I know sold their 5 blogs to 1 buyer 2 years ago for around $750k - then they went back to build some more blogs and now are ready once again for a huge payday - yes - once again!

How much are you planning to sell them for?
The final value will probably be based on the size of the list, the number of fan on fb, traffic and earnings.

Are you using other list building strategies?
Yes. I went back to this style of list building | e-courses around December of last year; but I have many squeeze pages that giveaway reports. These reports are not the "make $100 per day" types. I prefer to give away helpful info, my report might be something like "How to get an extra 100 visitors per day to your site - in 15 minutes or less per day". This report would tell them about bookmarking for traffic and provide a list of good bookmarking sites. I find that people appreciate this more than reports promising $100.s per day.

Are they directed to an offer right after subscribing?
No. After they opt in, they will be sent to a download page where I will have related offers. I never send them directly to an offer right after they've subscribed. But you don't have to do as I do. I just don't think that leading them to an offer right after signing up would be appreciated by your subscriber. I want to keep my subscribers for the long term.

Is this the best way to build a relationship with your list?
The main purpose of this strategy is not only to build a relationship with my subscribers; it is also to build web assets - web real estate - which I can sell for a great deal of money a few years later.

People are getting rich selling established sites; you don't read about these people on flippa or on this forum. Some people are flipping sites right after building them, but if they waited 3 months, the same site could sell for 5-10 more money - and after 3 years, the same site can pay for a brand new car and/or a down payment on a house.

  • Improving your copywriting skills -
In 2004, for the first time in my life, I wrote a very long sales letter. My sister (my proof reader at the time) told me that no one was going to read the entire letter because it was long and boring; and she was right. I was selling a good product for $47, but the sales copy didn't help. I was getting several thousands unique visitors per month and decided to reduced the price to $7, but even at $7, I was only making one or two sales per month.

A few years later, I came across an e-book that changed the way I wrote sales letters, newsletters, articles and email follow ups forever. I went back to the "long and boring" sales letter and added some of the techniques I'd learned from the e-book and asked my sister to read it again. An hour later, she called and told me that this was the best marketing material she had ever read from me and suggested for me to raise the price back to $47 because I was going to get lots of sales this time; and she was right, as I went from making 1-2 $7 sales per month to 2-3 $47 sales per day.

Today, I'm going to share with you the e-book and the simple techniques that took my copywriting to the next level.

The name of this ebook is - "The Bucket Brigade", by Derek Pankaew. You can get a free copy of what was a life-changing information for me by clicking on or searching for the title below. Enjoy, Frank

  • Hi Frank,
Thank you for the great tips. i have a question :
1-How do you know which subscriber bought the whole e-course so you can not send him again the sequence emails after that ?

2-Let say i send 100 people to my squeeze page for a free eBook, 40% of them sign up and from that 40 people 20% buy my main product which related to the free eBook.

so Now, i have : 40 emails and 8 buyers. i want to send sequence emails to those 32 non buyers via 3 emails to convince them to buy .

My Question: how do i know from my auto-responder provider (i have Mailchimp) those 32 people ? i don't want to send these 3 emails to the 8 buyers since the list will have 40 subscribers .

    Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi - I have never used Mailchimp; thus, I cannot help you automate things with them.

I use Aweber and Getresponse. With them, you can set automation rule to unsubscribe people from a prospect list when they purchase a product and sign up to a customers list.

#1 - This can be done automatically by creating another list and setting the rules for Aweber to add the buyer to the new list and delete them from the freebie list. Once they are removed from the freebie list, that email sequence will stop. If you have created email follow ups for your buyers list, they will automatically start getting those.

#2 - By now you will have two lists - a freebie and a buyers list. Your freebie list will have 32 prospects that will continue to receive that particular list email sequence. The buyers list will have 8 new people.

      Best Wishes, Frank

  • Outliving Your Competitors.
In Spanish there's a saying that goes .... "Siéntate a la puerta de tu casa y verás el cadáver de tu enemigo pasar." Translated to English means..... "Sit at the door of your house and see the corpse of your enemy pass."

This saying also applies - quite nicely - to internet marketing. If you keep your website long enough, you will see most of your competitors' websites died or disappear. It is a fact that a very high number - over 90% I would say - of all marketers will not renew a domain after the first year.

How do I know this? Because I was 1 of the 90% - but only for a short time, thank goodness. A few years ago, I decided to build some niche blogs using plr articles as content - I built 10 blogs to be exact. Most of the plr articles came from the wso forum. In most cases, I was the first one to have the articles indexed as I didn't wait around for the competition to get a head start.

After a few weeks. I did a search on google to see how many people were using these articles and found only a few sites using them. 3 month later, there were around 40 sites using the same articles. A year later, 2/3 of those sites were gone. After two years, another bunch disappeared. Another year went by and there were only 3 sites sharing the same content.

I now have seven sites with unique content and great domains. These sites are making sales for me - anywhere from $100-$400 per month each. The only thing I have done to these sites since I built them is to upgrade wp and updates the plugins. That's it!

These sites are worth a nice chunk of change right now; great domain names, great content and making sales; talk about building web real estate!

Knowing that Spanish saying ...... "Siéntate a la puerta de tu casa y verás el cadáver de tu enemigo pasar." .... helped me outlive the competition and built web asset.

What about you? Are you going to have the patience to give your business time to develop or are you going to start a new one every other day - for the rest of your life?

    Best Wishes.

    • Hi Frank,

Do you do much in the way of keyword research prior to deciding on the topics for your videos, blog posts or slideshares? What kind of figures are you looking at with regards to search volume and competition etc? Do you look at these things before doing the social bookmarking etc?

You mentioned in a very early comment that you started an affiliate program in the 80's, are you going to share any more information or stories on that at all?

  • Great share Frank. Your strategy is amazing.

    I have a question
    1. What do you send them when they optin to your list? Like you said if you send a freebie/report most probably they will get it and optout. You also said they optin and you email them after 3 days. If they won't get anything they will optout. please elaborate.

    Thanks.

It sounds like he sends them to his private blog to read this message after confirming their email.

    • Thank you Jesus.

Hi Desi - Right after subscribing, they will receive a welcome email thanking them for joining our training and giving them the link to day 1 of the course. on the third day, I give them the option to purchase the entire course or continue getting the info for free. When I give them the option to buy on day 3, I also offer a bonus that is sometime better than the actual e-course.

"** On day 1, I tell my subscribers how important it is for them to stick with the e-course 'til the very end; they get an introduction to the course; my promise to them; what to expect over the next few days, etc. Day 1 is basically a sales or presell letter to the course. It works great! Sometimes, I get emails asking if they can buy the entire course right after they have read Day 1."

I have been over this thread a few times now, and I want to thank you for this wealth of pure gold information. A lot of people on this forum would have tried to up-sell something to the readers by now, but you are not. You freely give your time and advice with no hidden agenda, and I find that inspiring. For those who don't know how to find CC youtube videos.

Youtube is another of my favorite sites for videos that offers Creative Commons-licensed videos. there is no easy link for you to access the list of Creative Commons videos, but you can append the word ", creativecommons" (including the comma) to the end of your search term.

      I hope this helps.

  • Email Follow Up Sequence:

I have received several messages asking me to share other strategies I use to build my lists. Today, I will go over some of my follow up or broadcast strategies.

Here is the email follow up sequence I use with other methods of list building. These subscribers get 3 emails per week.

To make it easier to follow, I will start with what I do on Wednesday.

Email #1 - Wednesday - This message is sent to give the subscribers a hint or update on what's coming on Friday. This email raises curiosity and expectation - and it gets most of my Friday's emails opened.

I keep this message short and simple.......

    "Hello Mary,
I hope this message finds you in great health.
Just wanted to let you know that I've recently came across a report that can help you keep your dog happy and healthy for many years to come. I've found this information so valuable in expanding the life of my dog that I decided to purchase exclusive rights to the reports so I can share it with other dog lovers. I will be sending you another update in a day or so.
    Have a great day,
    Frank"

1 - This email contains no links to the report.
2 - It has Mary anxiously waiting for the next message to learn what this report is all about. She loves her dog and wants keep it around for the long term.
3 - Since I told her that I purchased the right to share the report, she wouldn't mind paying for it as well.

Email # 2 Friday - An offer. It does not have to be related to the offer or course they originally subscribed to. These are people and people do need other things. How many e-books on dog training will your subscribers buy from you? A few the most. Would you believe that most of the money I have earned from my dog training e-course subscribers is on weight loss products?

A few weeks ago, I purchased a stove-top grill from Amazon. It's easy to use, easy to wash and the grilled steak and chicken taste terrific. I decided that this grill would be my Friday offer to all my subscribers - and I mean everyone I have on Aweber and Getresponse.

I created a post about the grill using text and images I borrowed from Amazon. It took me about 20 minutes to prepare the post and email message. My assistant asked...."You think they are going to buy this? and I said something like..... "this grill is going to help me spend the next 7 days on a beach in Hawaii".

It's been more than 2 weeks and the orders are still coming in.

.... Treat your subscribers right and they will buy almost anything you offer.

Email #3 - Monday - This is more like a follow up or update to Friday's offer. For example, after I sent the grill offer, on Monday I sent to buyers and non-buyer an e-book about eating healthy - and - two things happened; 1) the buyers thanked me and 2) many of those who didn't get the grill on Friday, got it on Monday - thanks to my follow up and e-book (btw, the e-book contains links to other affiliate offers).

Lately, I have been sending a third email during the week to give my e-course subscribers a hint of what's coming on Friday. So far, the results have been great.
    • [ 3 ] Thanks
  • uwa223,

I wanted to ask you how you post (I mean where do you store them) your video courses that you give away for free.

Video usually take a lot of bandwidth and if you pull into your courses even couple hundred people every month then it is going to take a lot of traffic and shared hosting company cannot be happy about it, might even kick out.

How did you solve this issue for yourself?

    • Hi fulfilledlife,
I have just finished a course on video per Frank's teachings here, and I uploaded the videos on my Amazon S3 account. you just get a free plugin you paste the video url to, and presto, streaming the video on your site. There is lots of places where you can host your videos online off site.
      I hope this helps.

  • Awesome information Frank. I adore the thought of allowing them to find the very first element no cost and then coughing up to the whole program. Possibly another means to achieve this is supply a condenced summary variation which protects every little thing and offers benefit and then employ a whole program which will go deep into just about every subject.

    • Hi Mah - Thank you for taking the time to read this thread and for your kind words.

I usually purchase plr products that include videos or give you the option to purchase "look over my shoulder as I do things" videos. If the plr is a good product, but there are no videos, I try find a plr video course that goes with it.

I use text and graphics (stock images, etc.) for the e-course and give them the option to purchase the entire course after the third day.

The videos are used as an upsell for those who prefer videos and about 30%-40% of those who like the course will end up upgrading to the videos - which I sell for $17-$27.00.

I love summarizing articles and pages and I do so throughout each course.

Here is a summary of this post....
Give them the text pages for free - use the videos as part of your upsell NEVER give them the videos as part of the free e-course.

      Thank and best wishes.
      - Frank

  • Thanks to you Frank,
I have done mini courses before, but as you said, people opt in, download them and the un subscribe before I can even build up a relationship with them. I created the mini course now, with video and text, on wordpress pages, and I am currently finishing off the Auto responder series for the mini course.

I feel very good about what I'm doing here, and I think one add a lot more value this way. Pure gold.
    Best regards

  • hi , cool stuff, great value..but..
you seem to be doing pretty low--average volume, at least I assume, correct me if i am wrong.
Why not scaling big one of these few lists with paid traffic?
You seem to have done wondrful work on these lists, but the return you are getting is limited to the amount of traffic you are getting (I am getting from your post that most of your traffic is coming from 'free traffic')
I d rather work on only 1 or 2 niches, but scale a lot, rather than spreading myself a lot like you do.
You can hit much higher revenues in my opinion.

What type of volume are you doing?

I have always been making money with paid traffic, I never understand people who are producing great content and building great sales funnel , and then dont leverage all that work with some media buys..

Anyway, thanks for the post, it is rare to see so much value in one post in this forum.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • Hi There - Thanks for visiting and sharing your opinion with us.

First, let me said that you are not correct. My initial goal was to get 10 subscribers per day - per e-course. I accomplished that within a week or two after uploading each course - without spending a dime on paid traffic. Later, I decided to spent some of my earnings for blog posting and social bookmarking. This has increased my opt-ins by about 25%.

Don't underestimate the power of youtube and slideshare when it comes to getting visitors to your squeeze/landing page - if you do things right. I'm getting more visitors per day from free traffic than most people get per week from paid traffic.

Second, about spreading myself thin - I agree with you on this. But I'm a hard worker and have had huge successes with past e-courses - including one that had over 40,000 subscribers. Scaling time? I knew that e-courses work, so I went on to scale my huge success x15 by building 15 e-courses that will bring a very large chunk of cash 30 months from now. I have already traded 2 of these properties for a very expensive toy.

There are things that I used paid traffic for; like my e-commerce websites. Sending targeted traffic from fb to my e-commerce properties has produced fabulous results.

Once again, thanks for sharing your success with us.
      Best Wishes, Frank

  • Frank,

Thanks for the great information. I have a couple questions:

    1. How long are your individual daily courses? Do they contain video or simply text and graphics?

    2. What is your preferred email service for autoresponders and why?

    3. What kind of traffic do you get solely from your YouTube and Facebook content?

    Thanks again!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hello unifiedac, Thanks for stopping by. Below are the answers to your questions.

1 - Some of the e-courses I have now are from 7-15 days long. The longest one is 52 days. I use text and graphic for the free e-courses; videos are for upsells or one-time-offers.
2 - I use aweber and getresponse as both provide high email deliverability and are not too expensive. I do not use free autoresponder as free can end up being very expensive. You can't go wrong by chosing aweber or getresponse. They are both very reliable.
      3) It's hard to say as I concentrate more on other results - such as how many subscribers and sales I get per day; maybe 35%-40% of my free traffic comes youtube.

      Best Wishes,
      Frank

  • Monetizing An Online Dating Blog - My Way.
3 weeks ago, I got an email from a young woman asking for tips on how to monetize her dating blog. Today, I got a message from her telling me that the sales are coming in. I thought I share the monetizing tips I gave her on this thread.

Let's start this with a question and some answers.....
What do most men really want?
    1- Most men want a bigger THING-A-MAJIG.
2- Most men want to last longer.
3- Most men want to date younger women.
4- Most men want to have the body of Adonis.
5- Most men want to know how to approach women and say the right thing.
6- Most men want a wallet full of money.

Knowing what most men really want makes it really easy to monetize your dating blog. If you help men get what they want, you can earn a very sizable income. Below are some of the stuff I promoted on my dating blog. Some of the reports were developed by me, but you can replace them with affiliate programs from Clickbank.

1- For men who wanted to be bigger - I would sell them THING-A-MAJIG stretchers. I used to sell at least 2 a day and earn $155 per sale.
2- For those who wanted to last longer. I would sell them THING-A-MAJIG pills.
3- For those who wanted to date younger women - I created a special report for them..... "Secrets Revealed: How to date younger women - even if you are short, bald and broke". The price was $27 and it sold like hotcakes.
4- For men who wanted the Adonis look - I would sell them Turbulence Training. I did great with this CB product.
5- For those who didn't know how to approach women - I created another report (made changes to a plr product). "The Art of Approaching Women! How To Tell Them What They Really Love To Hear". It also sold for $27.00.
6- For those who wanted more money - I sold them several options on how to earn money to cover their dating expenses.

Want to know which was the most read article on the entire blog? It was ... "Does size really matter? This time, I did not tell them what they wanted hear. In fact, after reading the first paragraph, they would be - QUICKLY - on their way to the THING-A-MAJIG stretcher website.

As you can see, you can make a nice living by helping most men get what they want.

    Best Wishes, Frank

    • Hello Frank ,

Love your post it gave me a whole new view on handeling things .
I just starting with internet marketing and its verry hard to weed out the good vs the bad info online , so this website was a massive help .
I do have a question regarding the following text

**Since I only use high quality giveaways, I give them the option to get immediate access to the rest of the course (on the third day) for at least $7.00 ($17-27 if it includes professional, HD videos). I make this offer on the email that goes out to let them know that day 3 has been added to the blog; and at the bottom of that particular e-course page.

Basicly you say that you give them the offer to buy the course and dont have to wait till the verry last day .
But what happens when they do buy , will the followup emails from the course keep comming or will they get redirected past the course ?

      Thank you

  • A Complete e-course and sales funnel on list building....
I get many private messages asking if I could do some coaching or set up e-courses, but I just don't have the time to provide these services. Today, I searches the wso section looking for something that could help people launch and e-course and found a ready to go e-course, sales funnel and training.

It's the Monthly Paycheck Sales Funnel by JensSteyaert. This is a complete sales funnel that teaches people everything they need to know about listbuilding. It comes with everything you need, such as a squeeze page, a monetized thank you page, follow up messages and a complete training websites with 6 lessons your subscribers can follow.

You can buy PLR right s to the funnel and the website if you wish. This means you can reverse engineer this funnel and crank out unlimited sales funnels the way this one is built.

Go to the wso section and do a search for JensSteyaert and his training. I don't know Jens; we have never exchanged messages until today; and I'll never get a dime if you decide to purchase. I'm just trying to help those who have asked for help.

    Best Wishes - Frank

I hope to implement these free traffic sources to my new Free 10-part Video list building series. Buying of book marking and blog posting gigs from Warriors For Hire was also an eye opener to more traffic sources. Quite rightly put--you either build your own list OR build a list for other marketers.

    • Hi Frank,

Firstly thanks you for the quality information that you are providing here.

I had a question. You mention in one of the posts that you/your assistant updates both your private and public blogs. When you say your private blogs I guess that they are the private posts, that are part of your sales funnel. But what do you mean by your public blogs.

You say that you place you squeeze/landing pages on the main domain and the private pages on a subdomain. Do you have a blog part as well, such as domainname/blog.

      Kind regards

Read my post - #223 - on this thread for tips and ideas on how to monetize your dating blog / e-course. When monetizing your blog and e-course, you need to think outside the box.

Thank you very much for not only having taken the time to make this post but also for your continuing attendance and updating.

I am curious as to which other niche areas you had targeted- you mentioned 3 main ones you liked/had success in but also mentioned that you had upwards of 15 mini-courses out there running now...

Separate question- when would you feel the time would be right to package up a few and sell them? Would that be based on average sign ups, revenue generated, or a combination of that plus how much time you are spending on them weekly versus other projects that also earn money/are more interesting to you?

    Thanks!

I'm getting some good offers for 3 of the courses from subscribers.
I have a product that I sell that fits all courses - Blogging for Money; some of the people who bought it are interested in earning money by blogging and have asked if I would be interested in selling the course they are subscribed to. When I decide to sell, the price would be set on a combination of things.

Below are the niches I'm currently doing -

      1- Affiliate marketing-email marketing
      2- Video marketing-facebook marketing
      3- e-commerce operations
      4- niche marketing
      5- blogging for money
      6- Marriage & Relationships
      7- parenting-family-pregnancy
      8- astrology-numerology-Hypnosis
      9- games strategy guides
      10- diets & weight lost
      11- exercise & Fitness
      12- anti-aging
      13- Dog training

      sold
      14- gardening
      15- golfing

  • Frank, if I am reading this right you are using free videos available on YouTube for re-use and repurposing them to you YouTube channel for a specific course. You are then adding your own into and ending to the, using Camtasia. You are also uploading these same video to a fanpage you create for each e-course. Am I following this correctly?

This thread is so full of good info and I just got around to coming back to read it more in depth, thank you again for this great post. A few questions...

    1) Are you using paid traffic on FB to get people to your fanpage?

    2) Are you able to just downloading the videos in order to use them on FB or are you ripping them?

    3) Do you just create one e-course for a single site or do you add more e-courses if the site is successful?

    4) Do you ever use free WSO's or solo ads to get more subscribers to your sites?

I am spending a lot of time adding blog posts to my site and am wondering if that is a waste of time and should just focus on gaining subscribers and promoting high quality PLR courses to get their love and then promote products such as you are doing. It seems you don't really rely on SEO much as I suppose your sites will gain organic views over time anyhow.

Some really good stuff. I also use an E Course in my Model. And it works great.

I do not totally agree with everything especially the Email frequencies but this works obviously great for you and thats what matters.

  • This post was amazing. I learned more about internet marketing then I have from many products I purchased. Definitely a Bookmark. UWA223 Do you think it's fine to send more than one email per day if they are content based and not ads for products?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi - You could if you want to. In my case, I post the content instead of sending a long email that most subscribers won't bother to read.

      Here is what I do:
Post my content on blog or e-course >>>> add related offers to that post or page (as I show on post #18) >>>> send a brief message to my subscribers with a link to the post.
Results: a bunch of sales without being pushy!

The best way to engage your list and keep them active is by having a place where ideas can be shared by you and by others --- a blog, fb group or fan page will do the trick.

      Best Wishes.

    • [1] reply
    • Hi Eunette - For my e-courses, I prefer to ask for the subscribers' names. I'm giving them a high quality product that took time and money to put together. If they are not willing to input their names and emails in exchange for the product, there are other people who will.

I find it easier to maintain a relationship with my subscribers by using their names.

It's one the jewels of Colombia. It gave rise to myth of El Dorado, the fabled city of gold. Many movies have been made around this myth.

Can I ask one question? If you selling products, etc. CB, how do you know then changed that subscribers who bought it to yours customers list?

As I know that when the customers click to CB link they'll go to product langding pages and I just get inform by CB if they buy that product.

    • [1] reply
    • Hi Boeuro - Thanks for your kind words.
When I post an offers from other vendors on my blog or e-course, I usually offer a bonus or bribe related to the offer. To get this bonus, the buyer would be redirected to an optin form to input their name, email and purchase rec #.

Example of a bribe or bonus - if the offer is about building a list, my bonus offer would be something like ..... "Let me know when you order this product and I will give you a copy of my best converting squeeze page absolutely free."

Some will take me on my bribe offer and some won't.

I have several lists per course - those who joined for free - those who upgraded to immediate access to the course - those who bought CB Product #1 - those who jvzoo product B - etc, etc.

      Best Wishes

  • Great post Frank, you certainly gave me few ideas

The thing is, although you don't recommend it, but free ebooks or similar downloads tend to have high conversion rates. Although having an email course sounds good too, I will test it for sure.
    • [1] reply
    • Thanks - appreciate the kind words.

What I like about the e-courses is that it keeps your subscribers returning to your blog; thus, making it easier to engage and maintain a relationship with them. Subscribers engagement / relationship = BIG MONEY.

My courses allow people to share their experiences and knowledge with fellow subscribers - which makes it easy for me to keep people active and engaged. You cannot do this with an e-book.

I have nothing against building your list by offering an e-book. It's just not my preferred method for the reasons stated above.

      best Wishes.

    any updates on revenue?

I wanted to ask you, how do you "move" a buyer lead? i mean, if a subscriber buys the course on the 3rd day, do i keep sending him the daily info to the private blog? i mean he already bought the whole course, wouldn't this be pointless and annoying for him?

how do i move him to the "buyers list" and what type of content is on the buyer list, a whole different follow up emails with diff priducts?

Again thank you so much for sharing your experience

    • Hi - I answered this already on several posts, but will do it again since the thread is getting longer and longer.

I use Aweber and Getresponse. You can integrate either of these auto responders with your paypal button. The video below will show you how is done. If you do a search on google or youtube on how to integrate aweber or getresponse with paypal, you will find plenty of tutorials.

      Aweber - paypal integration:
Integrating Your AWeber Account with PayPal on Vimeo

With Aweber and Getreponse you can set automation rule to unsubscribe people from a prospect list when they purchase a product and add them to a customers or buyers' list.

This is done automatically by creating another list and setting the rules for Aweber to add the buyer to the new list and delete them from the freebie list. Once they are removed from the freebie list, that email sequence will stop. If you have created email follow ups for your buyers list, they will automatically start getting those.

      Best Wishes, Frank

    • Hi tm - Most of my e-courses traffic is free. Once in a while, I'd paid for bookmarking or blog posting gigs.

As far as tracking, I use google analytics. I also used the tracking provided by clickbank and other affiliate network tracking systems to let me know which blog or page made the sale.

Google Analytics is quite good and it's free. It allows you to see where your visitors come from and how long they stay on your website.

  • uwa223 Frank - Awesome post buddy! Certainly get's my vote for one of the best postings here.... Much appreciated.... Just want to add that my preference is to use a self hosted autoresponder with leveraging Amazon SES - that way you mitigate against the risks of relying on a third party whilst enjoying the same level of robustness as with top providers and it's way, way cheaper... just make sure to have DKIM and SPF setup....
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Frank,
This really is an EPIC valuable post. It came just right in time as I was building a list in a new niche so a BIG THANKYOU for being so generous with sharing your knowledge.

I may have missed this but I just wanted to ask you if you were using the root domain ie home page as:
    i) a mini sales page for the full ecourse
    ii) Squeeze page
    iii) or the public blog/magazine?

I recalled you mentioning that you placed the private blog on subdomain to deliver the ecourse however I wasn't so sure about the home page and the blog placement.

Could you clarify? Thanks so much.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hello Aimee - Thanks for the kind words.
I always use a subdomain to build the blog that delivers the course.
I use the root domain as a presell or warmup page to get people to
subscribe. All my courses now have magazine type blogs on a second subdomain. The magazine blogs are very effective. Eventually, I will move the magazine blog to the root domain.

I'm ready to launch another thread about launching your own magazine. I was going to do it here, but it might get loss as this one is already too long.

Thanks for stopping by. Best Wishes,
      Frank

  • Hi UWA223...

I am confused about certain things about the process below !

    **
    _____________________________________

For the giveaway, I rarely use a report that can be downloaded right after they opt in as a high percentage of subscribers will opt out the minute they get their hands on your report.

    ___________________________________

What i am confused about is you do not allow report to be downloaded right away as a ebook , then how is the ecourse being really delivered:

    1) For each 7 days of the ecourse - do you send them them a separate email for day 1 , day 2, day 3. day 4, day 5, day 6, day 7, with a link embedded in each email to the blog to read the ecourse for that day is that how it works ?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hello onpointinfo,
You got it right. The course is delivered as pages on a private blog. Each page represents one day of the course. Each day, and email is sent to subscribers giving them the URL to the page for that day.

      Best Wishes.

      • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Frank,

The more I breakdown this case study, the more fascinated I become with the possibilities. I've spent hours on this on this 'valuable' input. Frank, got a few more questions...

    1. Pricing - with such large lists, it's certainly profitable for such low cost products. But when you first started out, did you sale or promote ( bulk of your empire) higher value products to build momentum?

    2. Sales - I'm a bit confused re your blog (membership sites). First, you speak of hiding your sites (for obvious reasons).

But later, you speak of the product rank model (for leads on Google). I was under the impression you were "lying low" on the search engines . Where you referring to sq pages or fb pages?

    Thanks again for your time.

  • Thanks Frank for the excellent advice.

    1. I have a few questions, see the videos you create are each of them unique, and if so how do you add diversity to each of them, seems difficult to me to create diverse content especially when you create so many videos initially.

    2. Also are the videos just mainly text giving the user advice.

    3. I know you recommend YouTube video creator to make the videos, but is there any other video software/ program that would help creating the videos or just speed up the process.

    Thank you a lot,

    David.
    • [1] reply
    • Hi David - .

Most of the videos we make are about a minute long and provide 2-3 helpful tips or solutions to problems, Right after the tips,we recommend a "much better solution" to the problems and send them to a pre-sell page.that either capture their info or offer a bonus after the purchase that they would have to opt-in in order to get it.

About 70% of our videos are unique as It only takes about 15 minutes to write the script and make the videos.

We use the same script format all the time -
      1- A good headline
2- Make a promise (3 tips that will help you lose 20 pounds)
      3- Deliver what you promised.
4 Offer a better solution to the tips they received

My favorite software is Camtasia. I did buy a few of the newer and easier video making software that have been popping up lately. I will make a post about these software later.

      Best Wishes, Frank

  • Thank you, that is a very useful post. Working on list building now. So very relevent.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • I'm weird like this but seeing many repeated questions.

Here's all Franks responses to date - (if it lets me) Great WSO !

I have two lists per e-course; freebies and buyers. When a subscribers buy immediate access to course or another one of my products, they get added to the buyers list and deleted from the freebie list. The autoresponder does this automatically.

If I'm not sure the info is correct,
On fb, you must keep people engaged. We spend about 15 minutes per page each day; answering questions, thanking fans for their comments and posting something of interest. On youtube, I upload 1 video per week to each channel, thanks people fro their comments and remove spams.

    Put countdown timer on offer

As for keywords - I use the google planner tool for keywords ideas. I also use ubersuggest.org, a free keyword suggestion tool. I prefer long tail keywords that are getting at least 1,000 exact searches per month.

    Thank you Jesus.

People would rather pay money first than take action

Hi Mah - Thank you for taking the time to read this thread and for your kind words.

Monetizing An Online Dating Blog - My Way.

Hi Issyvee - Peter answered your question above. The pages URLs are sent via emails. The only links you will see are links to pages that you have already viewed. For example - if you are up to day 3, you will see links back to day 1 & 2.
    Best Wishes, Frank

    That is correct.

This thread is so full of good info and I just got around to coming back to read it more in depth, thank you again for this great post. A few questions...

    1) Are you using paid traffic on FB to get people to your fanpage?

A few years ago, I was placing fb ads to get fans; but these days, I rarely use paid traffic to get fans. I have several fan pages with over 50k fans each. When I develop a new course / fan page, I just post the links to the new page on the timelines of other pages. Within a few days, I will have several thousands fans for the new page.

    2) Are you able to just downloading the videos in order to use them on FB or are you ripping them?

Most time I share the video link from my youtube channel to my fan page. This way, the video can be seen on yt or facebook.

    3) Do you just create one e-course for a single site or do you add more e-courses if the site is successful?

I do add new pages to keep people coming back to read them and view new offers.

    4) Do you ever use free WSO's or solo ads to get more subscribers to your sites?

I have never used wso's to get subscribers. I used solos many times, but my results were not that great. It could have been what I was offering at the time.

I do use press releases to announce a new course to the public. It's not unusual to get several hundred subscribers within a few days. I don't, but you could use fiverr for the writing and distribution of press releases. Look for gig owners with 5 star ratings.

One of the best ways to build a list is using a blog. Every time you add a post to your blog, send the link to your subscriber. This way, you are keeping your list engaged and building a web asset (your blog). It's like killing 2 birds with one stone.
QUESTION 1: Does this mean, for example, you have links to 'all' 51 previous pages on the 52nd page? If not, how do you go about pacing links to past pages if the course is 'extremely' long?

    - Most of my e-courses are 7-14 days long; the 52 pages were actually 52 newsletters on an autoresponder.

The course is delivered as pages on a blog. The pages are kept out of the blog's page navigation structure and past pages links are added manually at the bottom of each page. For example - on day 3, you will find the links to days 1 and 2. It only takes a few seconds to copy and paste these links.

I do use posts to make offers and review products. These posts are automatically added to the sidebar navigation of each page or day.

u also speak of having an optin form for 'each' vendor (affiliate) product you promote (you're not in the habit of building someone else's list :-).

Once they join the course, they are added to my list; thus, I do not have to create a form for each product I promote. Once they make a purchase, they are added to a buyers' list as explained throughout the thread. If they purchase any of my products, they are automatically added to a buyers list. If they purchase another vendor's product, I try to get them to join my buyers list by offering bonuses and incentives that they would have to opt-in for.

I assume you are promoting lots of vendor products.
  • Hi Frank, can you please give your statistics numbers. How many of your subscribers are usually buying. Let's say you have 1000 subscribers, how many of they would buy (estimated number).

Also what would be the worst stats signalling that the campaign (ecourse) is not working.

    Thank you

    • Hi SG -
I really haven't had the time to look at statistics lately. I do login to Clickbank each morning and see plenty of sales coming in daily. Many of my subscribers are repeat buyers as we only recommend products that we have purchased ourselves or received a review copy from the seller. If we don't think a product is helpful, we don't recommend it.

We have not yet created an e-course that doesn't make sales. Some make more than others. We do plenty of research to ensure that the info that will be provided has plenty of people searching for it on a daily basis.

  • This is great advice. I love the pink elephant tactic. Will have to use that one on my next site. It's fun and puts a smile on people's faces.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Frank, do you use also ad swapping and solo ads to build you list ? I like the idea of building a relationship with the subscribers without hitting the with offers and download links right after they subscribe. I think it's silly to buy solo ads just to make money on OTO to re-coupe the cost of the solo ad. very bad indeed.
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Benomar -
I did some solo ads in the past, but not for the e-courses. I have not done solo adv for quite a while. I get most of my traffic for the e-courses from the sources listed on the first post.

I have not done any ad swapping with my list. If you tell people that you are not going to share their info with others and do ad swaps, then you are not keeping your promise.

      Best Wishes, Frank

    • Hi Aaron - To be honest with you, I have not logged into google analytic or cpanel for a long time. The only stats that concern me are sales, subscribers and unsubscribers. So far, sales are great; new subscribers are joining every day. Unsubscribers are rare.

I still remember those days when I would login to clickbank and keep refreshing the page every few minutes hoping for some sales. hahaha

  • This is an outstanding post and outstanding ideas.

We all need to work on doing something similar and I definitely like the idea of using a blog page for each day of an ecourse. I had not thought of that.

We are definitely always building our lists.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • Hi Frank, thank you so much for all this. I don't have any new words that others have not used already but truly thank you! I know this thread will help a lot of people, God bless.

I do have a few questions, forgive me if they are silly - I am new to all this.

    1. Regarding Facebook. How would you advise to get your first fanpage decent number of likes, starting with nothing?

    2. Market research. Lets say we choose the photography niche. How do you suggest to conduct the research? Since we are not aiming for Google or SEO, I'm not sure how important this step would be now?

    3. Is emailing on a daily basis really okay? I have read several times that this annoys people.

    Thank you in advance!!
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Hikari - Thanks for stopping by. Below are the answers to your questions.

1- There are many ways to get fans. A) You can start by sharing your fan page with fb friends... it's not who you know - it's who they know that matters. B) Make comments on fan pages that are related to your niche. C) spend a few bucks a day on FB ads - page likes.

Do a search on youtube for "how to get facebook likes". You will get lots of ideas on how to get fans - for free and paid.

2- You can start researching your niche by using Facebook search. This is very important and it will tell you if the niche is worth pursuing. Study successful pages to get ideas.etc.

3- As far as making offers, I don't send email on a daily basis. My subscribers do a get a daily email giving them the url to access the lesson of day. There is at least one offer within the lesson or page. You could send offers every day if you want to; I don't, but still get sales on a daily basis from the offers posted within the page.

      Best Wishes, Frank

  • Hi Frank,

Your sharing are awesome and wonderful. I have some situations to share. Hope you can shed some lights for me.

I am in a B2B Industry and we rely on sale person to generate sale. Recently, we started to build an email database from our customers. We managed to have 20% open rate and out of 5000 email sent out, only 2 orders are closed. Typical deal size is between $8k to $200k.

We are not into advertising and management is seeking for short term effective strategy. Most marketing strategy works well with B2C and not so effective with B2B. Can I seek some advice from you to how I can fulfill my management's goal? I thank you in advance.

Thank you for your kind words. As far as giving you advice on marketing strategies for your company, I would have to review your entire campaign - which is something I will not be able to do at this time. My business is keeping me very busy these days; plus, I'm also in charge of a project to help homeless children in Latin America.

  • Great tip!

I feel delivering value to visitors and subscribers is shifting big time to curating and summarizing the high quality info that's already out there. Especially in some over saturated niches like Internet marketing where there's very few unturned stones left.

The key is finding good stuff, especially stuff you normally have to pay for, reducing the major points to snackable bites and sharing it with visitors.

I do have a question though. You mentioned that you've sold a couple of your websites already. How did you do this with the youtube accounts? Do you have a different youtube account for every site?

  • Frank,

Thank you for being so generous with your sharing... this is truly one of the few solid threads on WF that I"m sure many of us will benefit from.

I have a question about selling the websites. How do you hand over your list of subscribers to the buyer? Do you open a new Aweber account for each website you set up?
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
    • [1] reply
    • Hi Angela - Thank you for your kind words.

For the last two sites that I sold, the new administrators preferred for me to create fb groups for them and invite the subscribers to join. Later they created Getresponse accounts and I migrated the lists to those account.s It's easy to do this with Getresponse.

You could do the same with Aweber, but it's more than likely that you would have to ask your subscribers to confirm that they want to be part of the new the list.

I asked the getresponse people if I could transfer an account and they said that it could not be done.

      Best Regards, Frank

The more I think about it, the better this method/idea gets - it is pure gold.

I think the best nugget that I have taken from this, is to choose a subject that people actually like.

Everyone would like to make some extra money online each month and most people love dogs.

Easily and readily shareable on facebook/twitter etc.

Thanks for putting all this amazing information down on the forum, Frank and also answering everyone's questions.

  • Hi Frank - all I can do is tell you the same thing you've already been told a hundred times by the Warriors who've read this post - THANKS for all the great insight - you ROCK! I do have a question I'm hoping you will answer for me. I love your idea of not giving them the goods as soon as they opt in - I can see how that can lead to nowhere. Here's the thing though; all of my YT videos direct folks to my opt-in page where they're promised to download the free version of my book. What can I do now to still leverage those vids and make good on the promise of a free book? Can I say something like "thanks for requesting a copy of the book. I'm currently updating it and I will send you the link to grab it within the next few weeks"? Then use that time to send quality informative emails - get them to know like and trust me - then deliver the goods? Is taking that approach ethical? I pride myself in keeping everything I'm doing to build my IM bizz above board. You know, no made-up testimonials, no false claims in my sales letter(s), etc... What would be your advice on this? Thanks!! Dan...

  • Hi Frank,

I'm setting my funnel up like this. Almost done. Thank you.

I have a couple questions if you don't mind.

    - Are you selling your own product on bargain friday? Seems like you must be if you're offering a discount by clicking the dog. If not, then how do you offer a discount?

    - You mentioned that you insert affiliate links throughout the text body of the course. And that those links take the user to your landing page, then directs them to the affiliates product. How in-depth do you make your landing page for those affiliate links?

  • An Email list is wealth for you..if you can grow it.My maximum earning come from Email Marketing. It's a big deal !!
    Thanks for this great post
  • I agree to you. List building is about developing a relationship with your subscribers, sending them an offer automatically will cause them to unsubscribe. First impression plays a vital role here n old adage that says "you never get a second chance to make a great first impression." Make a killer first impression now

So many great ideas to learn from your post. Thanks!

  • Very true.

Quick question though: you mentioned you usually promote IM offers, and occasionally dog training products. Do you have some sort of trick on how to find which of these OTHER (non-im) niches have a saturation on each platform?

i.e - what niches are saturated on youtube?
what niches are saturated on slideshare?
What niches are saturated on facebook?

  • i don´t know if this info is usefull to all of you, we use a plugin on wordpress to make some pages private... the plugin is free ,its called s2Member Framework, you also have advanced features but paid... this way when you create a new post or page you can put it available to everyone or only for members on your list!

    Hope this helps!
  • Hello Frank, Love the thread, thank you.

I converted one of my products to this method and just in the process of finishing up.

The problem with not labelling the pages as Day 1, Day 2 etc. it can get confusing to track pages for editing, so I found a solution.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/notely/

This plugin allows you to add a note to the admin panel page list so you can label each page and not have Day 1, Day 2 etc. show up in the title or URL.

    Cheers,

  • Thank you for that post. It was very insightful and I will take a lot away from it. Not implementing something like this would be foolish to at least test. I will be testing a similar method on my own products.

  • I am setting up a site and would like to know what wordpress theme to use. I already have all the content, but don't know how to format the first page that people come to. Is it supposed to look like a long squeeze page, or is short and to-the-point a better approach?

    Thank you

  • I'm in the process of setting this up, videos made, slideshare ready to go, private blog up and running.

Right now I am just writing summaries for each day of the ecourse after that I need to setup the funnel through paypal.

I saw from last year there were some people trying this out, it would great to hear from any of them.

For the last month I was getting subscribers through solo ads, I spent about $800 and made only $200 back, but that was using a freebie Guide off the hop as soon as they signed up they were sent a download link. After that the open rates for my autoresponder went way down.

My current autoresponder runs for 40 days sending an email every other day.

  • Hey Frank, thanks for an awesome post!

In addition to your tips I would like to recommend https://converdiant.com that i've personally used to build lists from my existing traffic. Been using it for a month or so, and I'm quite pleased with the results.

Do you have any experience in using tools like this one, and if so what would you say is the best strategy?

    All the best

  • Thanks for sharing, I needed this. I started my journey September 2015, around that time I made my first post on warrior forum asking a very amateur question. Since then I've learnt a lot made 3 websites, tried lots of affiliate products, ie. T-shirt, clickbank, had 700 clicks to CB and not a single sale (probably worst on record below 1%) so far I've made one sale on Spreadshirt. Every now and then I feel like throwing in the towel but then I pull myself together, and say I'm not giving until I have absolutely no other choice, even though it's really difficult right now. I've always wanted to make money online and the freedom it provides whilst pursuing my passion, since I was 16 or 17. I'm 36 now and I know life is just passing me buy. In the past I haven't tried hard enough or given up too soon. This time I've told myself I'm going to keep trying until I make it or lose everything.
  • Great! List building is a must for every marketer. Your ideas of creating a private blog of ecourse is remarkable. Thanks for sharing
