Lessons Learned in Email Marketing and Purchasing Solo Ads

The lightbulb went off for me earlier this week and I wanted to share what I learned.

I was purchasing small Solo Ads of about 50 to 100 Clicks for between $20 and $50. Each time I would purchase I would get between 30 and 60 leads and would get about 50% of what I invested back through an offer on my Thank You page.

The problem was that my email open rates were horrible so no additional revenue came through.

I completely stopped doing solo ads because I could not make them profitable.

Then, I had a conversation with a coach who shared with me a small tip where I did not need to increase my open rates and still could make the solo ads profitable.

I share this because I have changed nothing about the way that I operate from before, except for my thinking.

I effectively psyched myself out before and, frankly, wasted two months taking no action.

I just wanted to share this for anybody who gets stuck and stops (like I did).

There is always a pivot or change that can make all of the difference in the World.

Please share a time when you got stuck, stopped and then found a pivot.

Different things work well for different people, Justin.

It strikes me from reading your post above that there are two other possible reasons why solo ads weren't working well for you but sometimes work very well for other people ...

    (i) They might have been poor quality leads from poor quality solo ad providers;

(ii) The whole problem with your open-rate might have been the fact that you had, on your "thank you page", the offer you mentioned. I know that that's a popular thing to do, with solo ads, in an attempt to recoup some of the cost straight away, but redirecting people to an immediate offer can also hugely reduce open-rates and cost money in the long run. (That's very common: I hope and trust your "coach" mentioned it?).

That "fast offer" can be a very false economy. - it can make the difference between long-term profit and long-term loss.

It's true that - as you've observed - you can make a few fast sales, that way, but sometimes those aren't really gaining anything at all, because they're people who would have bought a week later anyway. The problem with doing it that way is that you make yourself look "just like any other marketer" and that gives you a very low open-rate. Worth thinking about and testing, perhaps, rather than simply abandoning solo ads altogether? http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8661178

    There is indeed.

I suspect that in your case, it may have been the "offer on the thank you page" that made the difference between overall profit and overall loss, and that would certainly be one of the main things to test.

My own "pivot story" is right here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8532320

Both my personal training jobs gave me the boot...

So I opened up my own personal training biz and it failed spectacularly.

Either way, I needed a way to make money that didn't include getting a day job.

So I was welcomed to the wonderful world of the internet...

And it's amazing ability to work from home and make moolah
