Hey,

Do any of you guys do cold emailing for prospecting local clients?
What kind of open/response rates are you experiencing?

Thanks in advance.

    Who is your prospect?

I am getting about 25%-35% response rate for my cold emails to local small businesses. The email is something that engages them into a reply that I am expecting, but I am manually replying to each one and lead them into additional conversation.

My second email is getting about 50%-60% to actually visit my squeeze page and about 10% of those visitors actually opt-in.

What's important to note is this is a process, and not a single email soliciting a sale -- doing that will get you nearly 0% response rate or even complaints! So don't do it, just slow your process down, engage these people, come up with a series of touches to move them thru your sales process.

Here is a good read on setting up your initial email: Why Sales People shouldn't Prospect - An interview with Aaron Ross | For Entrepreneurs

About 1/4 way down is the relevant info that pertains to making the initial contact one of soliciting a referral. I am engaging slightly differently, but I've also had success doing something similar.

        1) Brainstorm a group of recipients.
        2) Gather emails using relevant keywords. LimeLeads works well.
        3) Pick 100 emails.
        4) Write the subject.
        5) Write the body.
        6) Create a unique UTC link so you can track your efforts.
        6) Send it on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday between 9:30 - 11:00 am.
        7) Handle the responses, gather data, log a formal retrospective on the campaign.

I always shoot for a 25% response rate, which is tough! Anything substantially less and you've got to try something different. Quality over quantity!
I think we have some similarities in campaigns.

This is HUGE! I don't know why I didn't do this type of prospecting before, I think it mostly has to do with a perception problem regarding email campaigns and simply not understanding the very basics --- if we relate it to a simple phone prospecting effort, the email prospecting has some unique positives over the phone prospecting.

    Hey,

I have done cold emailing in the past, but when doing it, you need to be careful. Many people tend to go the spammy route and just bombard a list with affiliate offers. This is not the way that I do it.

I've found that click through rates and conversions are really good, but only after you have sent a contact email to engage your prospect and get their permission to send them your information.

It's best to send a contact email without a link to build the relationship between your prospects and I have found this to be the best way to do cold emailing.

    Hope this helps out!
