Email Copywriting Clients?

I love everything about the idea of writing emails for clients.

Like an autoresponder copywriter guy...

Thing is, I really don't know what's available to me as far as clients.

Sure, I get the retailer emails with graphic design.

I'm talking about CONTENT.

I'm talking about emails that tell some stories and lead into
more opportunities.

I really don't know what's out there.

So I'm asking the marketing brain trust for ideas.

What/Who/Where are the copywriting clients?

What industries? What type of clients are out there?

Who needs autoresponder copy?

This is something I've been struggling with, so any help
would be much appreciated in my heart.

I will never forget and will be indebted to repay you a
a future nugget of wisdom/advice/knowledge.

You never know what I know...

So what do you know?

Sincerely,

An Eagerly Ignorant Copywriter (EIC)

Almost everybody, but they're often not willing to pay for it, and unwisely imagine they can write their own "just as well".

It's a huge potential market with an enormous, unrecognized "need" but very little "desire" (and quite often comparatively little understanding of the true value of the service). Good luck marketing to that.

The better news is that if you're any good at it, you don't need very many clients at all, because they nearly all return for more, once they see and understand the benefits.

      Alexa,

The copywriting gods have smiled on me.

Thanks so much for this err *sobering* analysis.

But I appreciate the hope. This helps me formulate
ideas on what needs to happen next.

      Many thanks!

About every marketer needs email copywriting but not many copywriters
sell their services as just email marketing. Jay White is the first I knew
who marketed himself as an email copywriter and did well with this.

But with all the landing pages used today, they all need an email series
to go with them. do they have a landing page? They need an autoresponder
    series.

What've you got under your belt so far?

Have you worked with a client and picked up testimonials?

        What results have you achieved?

        If you haven't... it's not a problem.

You can run a WSO/WFH at a discount and pick up results and testimonials you use for lead generation.

If you want to see an example of a Warrior For Hire Autoresponder deal I believe there is one in this product (although I think I've got the earlier version): http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...than-ever.html

It's $17, and I'm not an affiliate... but it's good.

Alternatively, search my name in the WSO section and you'll find my (now closed) offer. I would link you but that would be against WF rules.

There's no reason why you can't make a similar offer. You could even justify your price drop as a way to pick up testimonials.

What've you got under your belt so far?

I've got a small email portfolio. 10-20 emails for some small clients.

Have you worked with a client and picked up testimonials?

Yes but no... I should get that testimonial.

          What results have you achieved?

Some repeat requests for work... no numbers yet..

Thanks for the shout out Ray (and if anyone's in the market for a killer autoresponder copywriter, Ray's your guy).

Really sort of stumbled into this. Wrote radio spots on the late 90's, then moved to catalogs (Bass Pro Shops--I can tell you 100 different ways to say "this lure catches big fish" and I've used every one of them multiple times--along with SkyMall and others) for about 7 years. That's where I really honed my skills. When you only have 50, 75, maybe 100 words to sell something, you gotta learn how to sell it FAST. And little did I know, my short copy skills would end up being my biggest advantage later on...

So when I started freelancing in 2006, the direct response sales letter market for internet marketers was exploding, and I was going to make my splash. And I did okay, but it was a client, mentor, and a friend (Alex Mandossian) who pulled me aside during a Big Seminar cocktail party and said, "Jay, you're a great sales letter writer. But you're the best autoresponder copywriter I've ever seen. Market yourself as such exclusively to the high end IMers and you'll be set." I did just that, and the rest is history. If you want to read the amazing story how I got my first gig with Alex--when I was a virtual nobody on the freelance copywriting landscape--you can find it at AutoresponderCopy.com.

Today, I still take the occasional client if it interests me. But most of my time is spent coaching and helping students who have taken my Email Copy Made Easy course. I not only train them how to write better emails and autoresponders, but also how to market themselves in this niche. So far, so good.

At any rate, this is a great copywriting area to go into. Been very very good to me. I'm a blessed man.

Wow the original Jay White!!! On my thread!

LOL, I've been mulling over whether to fork over $500 for your Email Copy Made Easy program...

(I'm a member of AWAI's Accelerated Six-Figure Club and Barefoot Writer so I've seen you around!)

Confession Time: Your booklet ($500 Email Secret) was my original introduction and interest into email copywriting.

Never knew you could make big money thru it until I read your stuff.

Now... if the artist himself is gonna talk to me...

I'm gonna have to get it. Alright, lol, I'm in.

        (Is there a coupon? lol)

Yes definitely. I am planning on getting an email copywriter for my list but here is what I would recommend to you.

contact list builders (you might want to target people who have a certain amount of subs so you know they can afford your services) and tell them you will write 5 emails that you can split test against the list owners 5 current emails (or whatever) and guarantee higher open rates, CTR's, etc. Then if you actually do achieve that, pitch your services to them.

You could easily create a landing page that pitches this free service with something like, "Get Higher open rates, CTR's, and more sales guaranteed FOR FREE. Let me write you 5 emails to your list that will beat your current stats. No BS. Call me now XXX-XXX-XXXXX"

I just made that up real quick but you could create that LP and target lost owners on FB or whatever. You could also create that service here to the members.

    best of luck.

The "original" Jay White...that's hilarious (although I do share my name with an MMA fighter and the world's most renowned Neil Diamond impersonator)...

Appreciate the kind words. And love to have you inside Email Copy Made Easy. Don't forget--when you pick up the program you also get access to my private groupsite, where I come in and help personally with any questions, as well as critiques of your emails. Plus there's a boatload of videos and webinars (including some on getting clients) thrown into the course as well. Great stuff!

Well, I'm your potential client. I'm working out two projects for my own use that include a squeeze page with free report, autoresponder to purchase ebook. Then I have a client of my own that is working on an ebook, and the series will be a weekly education email with occasional CTA to purchase the ebook.

    Industries:

Mine: online reputation management, online competitive intelligence
Client: business & leadedership training and coaching

Like previously mentioned, almost any business with an online presence could use some email marketing. But I recon you ask how to spot the ones that already use it and perhaps make them contract your copywriting services?

If I were you I'd try to come up with a list of topics of interest. Once you know what you're really passionate about, you could start the research on the most relevant websites that target these niches.

Narrow them down to the ones that already use email marketing - those who have a sign up / subscribe option or those that, under no matter what pretext, collect emails from their visitors. All websites that ask for their readers' emails are planning to do something with the data and that would be the moment when you can step in and present your services.

Ultimately, it comes down to writing a decent query letter and if you're a good copywriter, you shouldn't have problems with it.

    Best of luck!
