Does anyone know if there is a way to change my Aweber list to single opt in?

Or does get response allow single opt in?

    They both allow single optin.

In GetResponse click on the wheel logo...

    Then Permission...

    Then uncheck Enable confirmed opt-in:

In Aweber you can also set it to single opt in.

Just edit it in your list settings, check here for detailed info: https://help.aweber.com/entries/2166...firmed-Opt-In-

Double opt-in is way better at least you get people on your list who actually confirm that they want your information.

Not too mention it eliminates the fake junk emails people will give just to get your freebies....

Double opt-in is the way to go but to each their own i guess.

Because my "response required" automatic message is getting send to their spam! So like half the people that subscribed to my list yesterday, STILL haven't opted in. So I figure single opt-in is the way to go, that way they can receive my updates and emails regardless if they got my "response required" email which I don't think they are getting.

I've been noticing this as well. I don't use Aweber personally (I'm happy with GetResponse) but a few times in the last month or so when I've signed up for lists, the confirmation messages from Aweber have ended up in my Gmail spam folder. This is NOT good and they need to do something about this ASAP.

Some may be going to spam but the majority are not confirming because it's not important enough to them.

Aweber suggests you do not use a free email for your "return" address. Use something like help@mydomain.com.

They are down for system maintenance so I can't link to the specific article.

If you have a Thank You page, just inform (or remind) your users to check the Spam folder in the event they don't get an email. I personally find this old, simple tactic effective. Hell, put it in Heading 1 or Heading 2 if you have to.

    1. Double optin is simply not needed anymore. Most autoresponders such as Aweber will still make people confirm if the email address is likely to be a spam one.

    2. You can select single optin in Aweber but only on a new list. You cannot change a list that has already had your first subscriber back to single optin.

You get all those people if you use single opt-in, too.

      Together with some others.

Not using email address confirmation doesn't lose you one single person, and it doesn't make any "good, serious, well-motivated potential customers" any less good, less serious or less well-motivated, either.

However, from what I have heard and read, apparently double opt-in lists are of higher quality. Don't know how true this is (maybe you can comment on this ) as I haven't actually tested on this subject

The key word there is "apparently".

This thread will help you: among other things, it explains some of the fallacies and mistaken reasoning that underlie many of the widely-held but inaccurate beliefs about the apparent superiority of lists built with email address confirmation: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8554418

Think about it. The person opting in has no idea whether your list is single optin or double optin. So you will still be getting all of those people who would join your double optin list. The only difference is you are also getting a load of extra people who for whatever reason would not have confirmed their email address.

So it only make sense to use single optin.

You can change it in Aweber, I don't use double opt-in and it builds a list faster... I haven't had any spam complaints to date.

I was stuck on this matter for so long as most would say double opt-in is the way to go because of the "quality subscribers" you would get. On the other hand its more time consuming for the visitor on your page. On average you have maybe 30-40 seconds to keep the visitors interest.

I now see that the double opt-in will cut into that time frame. Maybe there is a way to force people to put in their real email instead of a fake one, before they can land on your sales page, video page or what have you.

Not at all. The email address confirmation process isn't done "on your site". It's done by email.

There are many disadvantages (along with one or two advantages, too) to using opt-in confirmation, but that isn't actually one of them.

The one time that I can see double opt in being useful is when you are offering some type of free product. It takes a little more work to double opt in and only a really motivated person who is interested in that freebie you are offering will even take the time. On the other hand, it might also annoy them annoy to just forget about it and move on. If that's the situation, then it's just as well as they probably wouldn't have been interested in your follow up emails anyway.

    Try the "Customer Support" feature.

I know G.R. has one but not too sure about Aweber.

They will be more than happy to help if they have one there.

Double optin can be considered a filtering process and in list
building you either filter early or filter late. With double optin
you'll (theoretically*) get less tire-kickers than with single optin.

Most marketers will have to filter their list later on anyway, so
you have to decide WHEN you want to do this.
