Best use of niche email list, product offers, continuity

Hi,

I don't post too much, but this time I'd like to hear some feedback from expert email marketers.

Say you have an email list in some specific niche, for example "getting rid of acne". You have a blog dedicated to that topic where you collect email leaders (through opt-in boxes). Of course before that as a ClickBank affiliate you created a chain of autoresponder messages (sales funnel) promoting a selected acne e-book. At this point it shouldn't really matter what autoresponder service you use: Aweber, Getresponse, Infusionsoft, etc.

What I would like to know is how you manage to keep a list like that productive and "alive".

My understanding is that once you sell them that highly recommended "get rid of acne" e-book, what to offer next? To me it seems a bit "unethical" to offer them another e-book or acne related product.
Also given that those people signed up to learn more about that specific skin problem solution I would not be comfortable offering them another stuff (insurance, make money online, etc.). I think that would somehow "damage" the relationship with my readers.

So, how do you deal with that? How do you secure the "continuity" of your email marketing campaigns with an email list like that?

Thank you,
Meg

Your topic would be a sub-category of Health & Wellness so, I would experiment promoting some other H&W products, because these people are already concerned about their health so, some general interest health products should do well.

Now, I wouldn't recommend immediately promoting a new product to your whole list. It's best to write a short report or a blog post on that topic and email it. Then you will see what people clicked and these are the people you want to promote that new product.

    Hope that helps

What I would do is this - ask them with what else they struggle with. I have never been on acne market, but when you find out more about their serious problems, you can find new products or create your own to sell them.

Probably starting to offer some money making tips would come off too too random. It is probably in the health, fitness or self improvement niche, but asking is great.

    I hope it makes sense.

Why would you not continue to sell to them? What's the point of having them on your list then?

The ebook is just the first product.. after you have them as a purchase on that you have just qualified them as a buyer and can continue to sell them related products... make sure however that you are doing more than just selling them things.. provide content, also provide tips for getting more out of the product you sold them.. generally no more than 1 sales message every 5 emails; make sure you are giving them a reason to open your emails...

..if you wanted to go deep you could chain them out into other campaigns also.. discover other topics those leads may be interested in and send them to your other campaigns...

selling that ebook is just the first step.

By setting their expectations appropriately, having an efficient and methodical continuity-process, and treating them in the ways suggested here: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6123982 .

Your question highlights one of the particular difficulties of "problem-solving niches" and explains one of the reasons where the conventional wisdom on niche-selection is so seriously defective ... the reality being that "enthusiasts' niches" can be a much better prospect. When you're an affiliate marketer, once you've built your subscriber-list, established your credibility, formed your subscriber-relationships, and all the other basic, essential things you need to do to make affiliate marketing worthwhile, you're then going to promote your first product to each subscriber, according to the number of days for which s/he's been a subscriber and autoresponder emails s/he's already received from you (assuming that you have the sense to wait until then, and not lose most of the potential customers by promoting too early, as many people do!). A proportion of them will buy it.

At this stage, "in problem-solving niches", looking at it in very simple terms only, one of two things happens.

Either they like it, they think it's great and it solves their problem (the result is that you can't sell them anything else because they don't need to buy anything else, so you've just lost most of your potential future income) ...

Or they don't like it, they don't think it's great and it doesn't really solve their problem, (the result is that you can't sell them anything else because you recommended a bad product, from their perspective, and blew your credibility, and they don't trust you any more).

Not a great outcome for you, either way.

In "enthusiasts' niches", people gradually buy more and more and more, to feed their enthusiasm, so you don't have that problem to anything like the same extent. (Having bought expensive things from this spring/summer Louboutin collection won't stop me from enthusiastically buying more expensive things from their 2014/5 winter collection.)

Be aware that for successful affiliate marketers, most of the long-term money comes from making repeated sales to the same captive audience (your subscribers - that's why listbuilding is so important!). That's why "enthusiasts' niches" are better than "problem-solving niches", and we're perhaps better off looking at those, rather than at how to solve others' problems.

TL;DR version - once you solve someone's problem, they may not still be a customer at all; and once you fail to solve it, they may not be your customer.

Like Ledux said, your category is under the umbrella of health and wellness. Assuming you are going to stick with this niche, I would try and think outside the box, for instance, many foods can trigger acne, stress can trigger acne, environmental factors can trigger acne etc. There are products in all of these categories that are potentially available to your subscriber database. Good luck.

I wish someone would have told me that about 3 years ago before I built 15 healthcare sites. Thank you Alexa

Thank you guys for all your replies!

Yes, those are all valid points, exactly what I've been thinking of.
Just wanted to hear some of your experience and how it turned out.

I'm in a planning phase of my project and this is where I've hit a snag. The continuity.
In a niche like this it'll be difficult to keep a long-term perspective.

Alexa, my dear, you speak my mind! .. sending you a huge THANK-YOU!
This is exactly why I decided to post my questions. Hope your answer will also help others!

To sum it up (my perception):
Yes, you can check what other health areas would capture your readers' interest. But sure it won't be all of them. Rather a small percentage. So you'll be bound to lose many of your leads.
Or you can continue offering another products within the niche you promote. However I feel this would cause losing your "credibility".

So it comes down to "thinking twice" about the niche you select.

Well, to me it's another small step in learning email marketing!

Thanks again for all your inputs!

  • Offer things related. Sell them everything about health, however give FREE stuff very often.

    For example,

    Day 1: Free blog post
    Day 2: Free video
    Day 3: Offer
    Day 4: Free blog post
Day 5: Are you sure? - Same offer again

    etc.

However, also build up a plan of posts in the future, and close them on the next thing in all emails.
At the end of an email, write,' P.S In the next post...

You can definitely try do some " cross selling " that can be indirectly related to the "acne" niche.

Just use some common sense here.

For instance, I know people with severe acne when they were younger. These people had NO social life at all because of their predicament.

Well, guess what happened when their Acne cleared ?

They started to get interested in the opposite sex and vice versa.

And viola, you have a gold mine for promoting Dating and Relationship Products after these people successfully use your Acne product

      Just a thought
