What happened to the 500 post minimum?

The rules of this new section of the forum specifically state that:

Quote:

Members with at least 500 posts or more can start a contest or challenge for other members of the forum.
So why is it that the only two contest posted here thus far are by the same user with only 88 posts?

Am I missing something?

(approving this thread so I could respond)

Hi Will,

I moved those threads from the main forum just to have something here to start this forum off. Never even looked at rizzy's post count.

Ok, so can you just clarify that the minimum to post a contest is 500 posts?

It was 500 but I decreased it to 200. 500 was a little much...

That's a nice move.

P.S : I sent you a PM regarding this section some hours ago. Can you please respond to that?

Thanks,
Abdul

I don't see how post count should be an indicator of anything, maybe the amount of "thanks" instead? That would entice members to contribute even more.

I concur. A member's value should judged based on the quality of his posts, not the quantity...

It's not about judging on the quantity of posts. There are some members here who have over 2000 posts that I doubt I'd ever accept a contest from.

It's the fact that if they have made it to 200 posts they at least are not a spammer. It's about cutting down on junk submissions here that we would have to weed through. If everyone was allowed we would be sorting through hundreds of posts in here every day, most of which would be complete junk and marketing gimmicks.

The thanks system is kinda... let's just say there are a couple of 'thanks' syndicates.

How about a debate board, Allen, where members can argue the value of post counts, thanks counts, colored text in sigs, and the cost of posting a WSO?

I agree with having some minimums in place, but 500... That is like a years time of normal "foruming" hehe.

Quality > Quantity, but hey, I dont make the rules :)

you should be focused on the quality of posts rather than quantity , as there are many people who dont want to interact .

I totally agree. I read a lot of posts from members who have high post counts but generally don't seem to post much of substance. And I have learned a lot, gotten great feedback and information from memeber with post counts under 100. But I DO understand the general intent of having a post count minimum for this section.

It IS a great place for some of the old pros to help the rest of us out abit. And I have been really enjoying this section (now if I could just win a contest, I would enjoy it a lot more!)

# of thanks would be a better gauge of whether someone should be posting or not IMO. If you get thanked, you posted good, helpful content... If you have 200 posts, you could have just said "bump" (or something as inane) 200 times.

Not too likely though. 200 posts saying "bump" in a relatively short period of time would most likely get said person flagged.

Also just because someone doesn't have the popular opinion, thus not getting a lot of "thanks", doesn't mean their post in the contest forum wouldn't be of value.

People with hundreds of posts are often the same people who don't know how to use a search box...
