Conversions Challenge!

My goal for December is to increase my conversions so I thought it'd be great to have a challenge to focus on this.

To participate in this challenge please....

1 - List your goal for the next 4 weeks and where you are at now with conversions. (Go longer if you'd like but this will at least be a great start!)

2 - List some of the items you are going to TEST on your site for 7 days.
(may need to adjust time frame if you are not getting enough site visitors)

3 - Test one new item per week and report results.

4 - At the end of the 4 weeks, report your results. What worked for you best when you tested? What have you learned from testing? What will you test next? Did your conversions increase? and by what percentage?

* You don't have to share you site or niche, unless you would like!

Here are some ideas you might want to consider testing:

SQUEEZE PAGE:
change headline
change headline color
change font type
add testimonial right below email sign-up form
video or audio
text on button
color of text
color of graphics
different graphics
less fields on email sign-up form

SALES PAGE:
change headline
change headline color
change font type
add more photos/less photos
changes sales copy
add security seals
add paypal logo
add video
shorten/lengthen sales video
buttons on sales video or no control over video
change guarantee - length of time offered
size of order button
color of order button
text on order button
placement of testimonials
add a mouse-over text on order button
price of item
bonuses - more, less, different bonuses

1 - List your goal for the next 4 weeks and where you are at with conversions.

I'm going to work on my site that converts the worst. Currently:
Squeeze page converting at 19%

Sales page converting at .0065% on first visit (yep that decimal is in the right place!) :)

My goal for December is to increase conversions to 35% on squeeze page and 2% on first visit to sales page. Most important to me is squeeze page though since my list tends to be pretty responsive.

2 - List some of the items you are going to TEST on your site for 7 days.
(may need to adjust time frame if you are not getting enough site visitors)

Four things I'm going to test this month:
SQUEEZE:
* Add Video
* Add Testimonials
* Add Photos
* Change Headline Text

SALES:
* Changing order button to "Belcher button"
* Rewrite sales page - use shorter sentences
* Add more tesimonials
* Add video at top of page

Can't wait to see your results! Hopefully this challenge will encourage us to TEST and increase our conversions. I don't know about you but that's a lot of fun for me!

Not trying to hijack or be Mr. Know-it-all

Just offering a tip that's helped me get bigger
improvements on my initial tests...

Something I've learned along the way with
split testing is to first test wildly different
versions of your page.

Once you find the style that works the best
then test little things like headlines, buttons,
and pictures.

Here's 3 style's I'm testing...

1. Headline + Opt-in box (works awesome with CPV)
2. Video only with opt-in that appears after the video (inside the video)
3. "Click Here For Free Video" pop-up that directs to "Oops for subscribers only page"

My Goals:

I have a new non-IM site I am working on and
I would like to see it start out with 35%+ opt-in
and earning $3+ per visitor in it's first 30 days.

Then 50%+ and $5+ by the 60 day mark

I'll be using visual website optimizer for split-tests

Peeps should look into Unbounce.com too though

Mmm...

I love split testing!

Here are some statistics related suggestions.

1. Instead of using a time limit, use a visitor count
1.1 This provides validity to your decision.
1.2 More likely that your results are not based on chance happenings.

2. Understanding sample size is very important
2.1 In most cases you will need a 1000 samples before you find any significant results
2.2 The larger the population size the greater the needed sample size; however, you will never need to over 9,000 (seriously).

3. Significance (the non statistical way, a.k.a. commons sense)
3.1 The smaller the change the less likely that it produced a significant change in the result (unless you have a large sample size)

Ex. You are testing your sales page and changes there of. You change something and you spike sales from 1%-2%. However, you only have 100 visitors to both versions (1 person bought from version A sales page, 2 people bought from version B sales page). Statistics says, this could be a change due to chance.

Instead, you have 10,000 visitors to both version A and version B. Now A has 100 conversions while B has 200 conversions! Quite significant, as you can tell!

It might seem like common sense, but people always get lost in the percentages. When people see a change from 1%-2%, they think there was a change. But they do not take sample sizes into account which is a big mistake as you could tell from the aforementioned example.
