Set January 2011 Business Goals - Hold ourselves accountable
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Just like other resolutions, we can fall short of our business intentions. Especially us Newbies. Having specific, written and public goals helps keep us motivated and focused. It certainly helped me break through the information overload and paralysis of analysis stages of IM.

What are the things you need to do for your business by January 31st?

If you'd like to join this thread, post your Jan goals and update daily or weekly.

I've been allowing my offline job to be an excuse for my lack of productivity. I must do some work every day.

1. I have two sites that need to be completed.
2. I will write every day, even if only one sentence.

Overcoming paralysis by analysis, you just start doing.

Partner with an accountability partner who will serve as
a voice of reason and help to make sure that you are
focused on doing the right things though and not just
getting ready to get ready.

Once you really get going the momentum can push you
in the right direction.

Don't be afraid to make a few mistakes.

Just do while others talk about it!

I thought I posted here already, but I must have been dreaming because the post isn't here (??).

My goals for January are:

Get an offline client (done! Did that today).
Get another offline client.
Get my own website done??? (problems persist)
Submit at least 10 articles to directories.
Complete at least 3 affiliate sites

Trying to keep it realistic. I dream bigger than this though ...

My January plans:

1. Make a WP review site for Amazon affiliate and have an income.
2. Increase the number of subscribers of the list.
3. Complete 10 more CPA sites.

That's all

Thanks

Write down 7 most important tasks at the
beginning of each day and order the list by
PRIORITY and at the end of the day take a
look at the list and only go to bed when the
most important tasks have been done!

I have used the same technique with a slight reward, if you can call it that.

When you have put down your 5, 7 or 15 tasks you take one or two and erase them off your list and put them up for tomorrow to free up some time.
The items you take off is not the "Dentist appointment" or "Meeting the bank" but preferably a task that you can bulk with the same action the next day.

Also, I should add some goals of my own.
This month I'll actually clear off three items from my post in the 2011 Goal Setting Challenge-thread
- Start a project blog (to keep on course)
- Find one (or two) person(s) to hire for Content and SEO work
- Buy my girlfriend something nice

I need someone to come over here and kick me in the butt to get me back in production mode. I'm living like I'm on vacation or something. I find myself finishing household chores with the intention of freeing up time to watch tv. As if that were a worthwhile goal.

I'm going to unplug the tv and possibly take one of the cords out of the house just to be on the safe side, so in a weak moment I won't be able to turn the thing on. Then tv time can be my weekly reward for meeting my business goals.

The holidays along with facing some new real-life issues this month means I haven't had any time to work on my online business at all in the past few weeks, but I hope to get back into the swing of things on Monday. My goal for this year is to start working on this full-time, as in 8 hours per day, although there will be some unavoidable interruptions, especially in the next few weeks.

I think I'm ready to start scaling up and making some real money, but I need to put in some serious time and treat this like a real job.

"Keep moving forward."

hey Lynn and everyone, i agree we need monthly goals for many reasons.

i found something i want to share. looking for valuable free software led me to a place where you can get several desktop tools for free and many are quite useful. the project manager software is great for planning and setting goals, plus it provides self-accountability set by the user. just about everthing is covered from keyword research to building squeeze pages, and blog and forum posting.

i have had to struggle with some of them when i get an error for 'access denied', but that's because i need to somehow grant authority to create certain temporary files, and i'm not that techy.

the site is IM Soft Xtreme

while the keyword research tool certainly isn't Marketing Samurai, it makes a great tool to do the basics first so i can make the most of the MS 7 day free trial when i have done my homework.

these tools have also saved me oodles of time, making it easier to reach some of my goals faster.

more later, happy trails, ed.

For 2011, amongst other business, I will be running the $250.000 blueprint experiment challenge. This is a direct challenge to Tim and Steve who developed the Blueprint project black edition. They claim you can make a million dollars with there system in 12 months. To be fair to them, I say, I will try 1/4 of that in 12 months which is $250.000.

My success or failure will be the best testimonies you can get about a marketer.

Consider yourself kicked!! I am here in the Gold Coast, Australia. About 10 years ago I set a goal to (a) get out of being an employee [achieved within 3 months] (b) live on the beach [achieved within one year] (c) love what I do [continual focus and has seen my business evolve and change along with my passions].

I continue to pursue these goals with focus every day and have a series of other more detailed goals directly related to my business. You don't want to get 10 years down the track, be miserable and be asking yourself 'what if'.

So here is what i did to overcome my procrastination when I started. Each evening i set ONE GOAL or ONE TASK, that I would do the next day. It doesn't have to be big but it does need to relate to one of your main goals. The task or goal MUST be achievable regardless of what your day holds and you do need to congratulate yourself every day on taking a focussed step toward your goals. Inevitably that discipline will see you get more motivated and achieve more each day.

You could even post that goal/task on the forum or email it to a friend and have them help you stay accountable!!

Good luck and don't let procrastination steal your goals.

OK, here goes:

after spending about six months learning about this whole big picture, i have narrowed down my focus to Affiliate Marketing, specifically home based internet business models. in other words, inside AM, everything revolves around fast, easy, affordable systems and resources to launch a newbie in the right direction and provide reviews, etc regarding new developments in the field.

the overall plan is that ReeelDeeep and ReeelDeeel will eventually become authority sites, linked to all my ecommerce sites.

here are some TLD names i am developing:

EZeeIncomeOnline[.]com & .info
TodaysAffiliateMarketing[.]com & .info
YourOwnHomeOnlineBusinessSystem[.]com & .info (YoHOBs)

i plan to use free trials with Marketing Samurai and Article Marketing Robot to create a targeted traffic stream. this will come in about a week because first i need to lay the groundwork to make it function.

i'm doing basic keyword research and i will soon put out Press Releases along with articles, social sites, squidoo and hubpages. forums and blogs as well, plus link all my (10) blogs into a big link wheel.

but... i haven't built a good foundation yet. however, i have picked a good ethical bribe for incentive to subscribe to my newsletter, a free 12-part video training program with a built-in upsale, so one big roadblock is removed. i struggled with this a long time.

so, right now my immeadiate goals are these:

1. build and upload my SqzPg, Thnx pg and dwnld pg by 1/16

2. prep Aweber with a custom ConfMsg, Thnx/WelcomeMsg by 1/17

3. add at least ten aweber follow-ups w/ some gifts to build percieved value by 1/18. each gift dnld will include more 'bonuses' all w/ AffHopLnk.
subs who dnld the gift move to a new aweber list

4. add my aweber web form to my sites by 1/19

5. use the Aweb. form Sqzpg link in all resource box/sigs and posts by 1/20

6. use Marketing Samurai free 7 day trial by 1/21

7. use Article Marketing Robot 5 day trial by 1/22

8. make enough sales to pay for continuing MS and AMR by 1/26

i understand this is all pretty daunting and demanding, so i will likely miss some deadlines, but the main point is not to get them done within a certain time frame, the point is to just GET THEM DONE as soon as possible. the sooner the better of course.

meanwhile, i would appreciate feedback of any kind.

Is this a sensible workable plan?

i'm working from the theory that the way to get started is to pick a good neglected long-tailed keyword to get ranked fast, then add more of the same until i rank for even shorter keywords, i.e. 'home online business'.

is this theory valid?

has anyone done things this way?

likewise, if you could visit one or more of my sites and critique my style, it would be greatly appreciated.

more later, thanks for your time and happy trails, ed.

I was in Bill Platt's live marketing chat this past weekend, and after a discussion came up about working habits and hours, it's starting to sink in that you don't have to work 9-5 when you're doing internet marketing. Some days, like Saturday, I can sit here and work for 12 hours straight. Other days I'm struggling to even put out a single article.

It's pointless to try to fight it when it's just not going to happen that day. I'd rather accept that I'm only going to work for 2 hours and be really productive than force myself to work 8 hours and really not accomplish anything.

That discussion really changed the way I've been thinking about this stuff.

"Keep moving forward."
