Help me pick a headline for my new website and win $20! I am in the process of putting together a new blog to replace my old one (hillbillydirect.com). i will be simply using my user name JeromyS as my domain and site name. I will also rebrand to my various existing social accounts. The focus of the blog will be BASIC Wordpress, Blogging, Social Media and Internet Marketing (not affiliate marketing). My intention will to be not too technical as I intend to provide information for folks that don't have a lot of technical knowledge that want a personal blog, a small website for a 'mom and pop' business or other basic website. My site will have my site name, JeromyS with a one line site description. That is what this contest is about, that one line description (goes on the header under site name). I am looking for ideas that are, descriptive, yet short, memorable, entertaining. I will leave this open until Monday, January 31, 2011 12PM Pacific Time. Then I will pick one idea that I like best and award $20 to that person. Winnings will be sent via Pay Pal and will be in US funds. Thanks all! and Good Luck! JeromyS |

I just had a look at your blog and I really like it. I hope you wont close it - it would be a real shame if you did. As for your new blog - I suggest the following title: JeromyS Pearls of Wisdom & Words of Gold - Good Advice can pave the Way to making your Fortune. P.S. I was inspired by the design on your Rippin' up the Online Business World Banner. |

JeromyS, instead of using JeromyS in your site title - I'd suggest either changing it into Jeremy's, leaving it out all together, or using your full name. JeromyS, your nickname, is just that... a nickname! As for a tagline, here's some suggestions: -Easy Sites, Easy Money -Doing Business Online for Dummies (might want to check if you're not breaking copyrights) -Smart Advice for Non-Technical Small Businesses (not catchy but really gives an idea for your target market) |

That's not much different than me using TJ Miller, when my name is Teresa J Miller, or if I had decided to use TeresaM.

I can think of a few... Here they are: 1) "Isn't it about time you learned how to create a blog?" 2) "JeromyS' ('s) Job is to help you build your first successful blog!" You could rephrase the first word into : "Our" job, "My" job.... 3) "We have all the necesarry tools to carve an online business using your ideas!" 4) "We have all the necesarry tools to carve your online business with you at the helm!" 5) "Come be the boss of your new website." 6) "Learn the tools & gain the trade of a successful online business!" 7) "A gradual step by step plan giving you all the tools & knowledge you need to create a money-making website!" 8) "An easy to understand guide to creating your first online money maker!" 9) "Simple solutions to accommodate your desire of creating a successful blog!" 10) "Ask & you shall receive....Crucial information on creating a successful website!" 11) "You have just entered the website workshop, where you will receive all the information you need on using all the proper power tools to hammer your way to the top!" I'll probably come think of more soon. Once I get in a creative mode, there's no stopping me... I hope you like these. Good luck with your site. P.S I like using exclamation marks...I'm sure you noticed. You can always end the sentences with a simple dot, I just find exclamation marks to be eye catching and authority givers when in headers. |

Maybe I misused the word 'nickname', but a lot won't even guess that JeromyS is his firstname + initial or surname. Most likely, the aim for the blog is to make money. Well, if you ask me (or any of my non-IM friends) if they trust someone who uses a 'nickname' they say No. For branding purposes, authority and to build a true business - it's better to not use 'nicknames'.

Hi, Here are a few that I came up with - feel free to mix and match: "The Shocking Truth About Building a Website... It's EASY!" "Starting From Knowing Next to Nothing... You Can Make Your Own Website." I'll Show You How; It's Fast and Easy. Honest! "What Would You Build If You Could Create Your Own Website?" If You've Always Wanted To Build Your Own Website... Let Me Show You How Easy It Really Is. Here's How You Can Create, Construct and Maintain Your OWN WEBSITE - I'll Show You, Starting Today! Does Your Fear Of Website-Technology Keep You From Building Your Own Website? (or) Don't Let Your Fear Of Website-Technology Stop You From Building Your Own Website! Okay, I hope one of these strikes the right note for you! Sincerely, Dot Pecson |

Another option, Jeromy would be to say Geek-Free instead of Low-Tech. It may be a little catchier, but I have heard that one used before. So: JeromyS: Low-Tech Web Advice (or Web Help) JeromyS: Geek-Free Web Help (or Web Advice) I personally like short and catchy better than some really long tagline that tries to say too much. I think a tagline should be no more than 4-5 words. |

Thanks everyone for your ideas! Some great ideas. Here are a few that I like the most so far; Smart Advice for Non-Technical Small Businesses Helping normal people turn on their online presence The Truth About Building a Website...It's EASY! Geek-Free Web advice Wordpress, Social Media & Internet Marketing Geek-Free I see some folks are sharing ideas related to "making money". This isn't really going to be the focal point of the new website (I understand it is with my existing site), sorry for the confusion. The new site I am looking to build will be targeting small business owners that may already have a website, but need to optimize it, or learn to drive more traffic or add social media. Also, small business owners that are thinking about a website, but have not crossed that bridge yet due to fear of the cost or technology. And finally people that are looking to start their own web presence, such as a blog, maybe not business driven. Primarily of course, business, but I think much of what I will create will be adaptable to a non-financially driven website as well. Again the focus is to try and keep my language simple, non-code, that the 'average Joe' can understand. Thanks again everyone, I look forward to seeing what else might come out as ideas! Regards, Jeromy |

JeromyS, I aplogize if my titles were a bit astray. I shall try again, this time with less of an emphasis on making $$$ Here we go! 1) "Easy peezy website building techniques" or "....building techniques while using wordpress, Social Media & Internet Marketing" 2) "Simple advice on creating your website with Wordpress, Social Media & Internet Marketing" 3) "Learn how to create a website using proven methods such as Blogging & Internet Marketing" - You can pick any 2 methods for this title... Hope these are more suited to your needs. |

When writing, that is a personal expression. No one else's. You need to put YOUR touch onto OUR suggestions. We are not - okay, I am not - out to write your final-draft headlines. You asked for ideas. You got some good ones. Now it's YOUR turn. Take your favorite of what WE have given you... for heaven's sake, end this contest and award the prize! Then run with it and add your own personal take. Don't ask us to do that for you. That's not right. Nor fair. Dot

Hello all, I have closely reviewed the headlines that have been received and I have said them out loud to see how they each sound. My final choice is actually a variation from @tjmiller. The new headline for my site in development will be; Non-Greek Advice for Business Online. or Greek Free Advice for Business Online. I decided to follow @tjmillers advice and keep the length short. I think this makes sense. While I liked 'Geek free' I thought to put a twist on it to read 'Greek Free', hopefully I don't offend any Greek people This, obviously, is playing off of the term "its all Greek to me", which is likely the case for many small business owners looking to get their business presence online. What do ya think? I think it works! So the winner is Teresa J Miller, @tjmiller I will send her a Private message to determine payment. Thank you Teresa! And a Big thank you to everyone that participated! Special thanks to @barket57 , @wanna-succeed and @dorothydot ! Have a great week All! JeromyS This contest is now closed. |
