I am so glad to see so many people using dormant domain names, using hosting that they already had, and utilizing other assets that they already had in their possession for this challenge! I'm excited to see the progress that everybody is making! Speaking of progress.... DAY FIVE I have a house full of sick kids. Three to be exact. I'm finding it hard to get much done today. I'm hoping that I can get some stuff done later tonight. I'm still going to be working on content for the blog and for my autoresponder messages. Tomorrow I will be talking more in detail about my choice of an autoresponder and some of the other choices that you can have. I'll also go more into the what I plan on doing for my autoresponder message series, and for my opt-in incentive. If anyone else wants to list what they're using for an autoresponder, feel free. Ok, Shaw asked for who is using what for an autoresponder, I'm using "GetResponse" for this. I managed to get a good period of free time to start. The web form has some great features to be able to change the appearance and colours to match your site so it blends a little into the site. I am adding an e-course to one of my sites today, (I am running three for the challenge). Also doing some more posts and also writting a few articles for later use. |

I want to thank all of you, it's super helpful to know what the day to day of a real IMer looks like. I see sometimes in these forums stories about people who struggled for years before making any money and I find it inspiring to know that you can buckle down an do it in 30 days! Thanks Again.

Pretty much a nothing day for me as far as the challenge goes. I've been out all day and will be this weekend as well (my wife and I sell at flea markets on most weekends) I did manage to squeeze one blog post in at 6am this morning before leaving for the day. Will most likely be able bang the rest out on Monday.

I actually have several packages that came with bonuses and on free plr sites and in resale rights packages. I could send you one but most likley you can find one or more by using the search terms "free html sales page templates" on Google, several came up for me just now. Shay gave several sites to check for hosting.

Kids are still sick. Boo. Hiss. I post about that kind of stuff because I think it's important to not gloss over some of the real-life issues that you deal with when you work from home. It's always nice to hear the success stories - I have posted more than my fair share - but it also doesn't hurt to have a realistic day to day view of what's going on behind the scenes. I'm also loving how everybody is customizing this challenge! There are many ways to reach success. The key is to use your own unique set of circumstances in order to achieve it - and everyone is different, everyone has a different skill set, everyone has a different set of assets. Don't ever be afraid to modify a plan to help better suit your own unique position. DAY SIX Okay. Today we get to talk about auto responders. There are lots of auto responders to choose from. I'm hoping that some other people will chime in about what kind of auto responder they use. I am going to talk about Getresponse. You can start off with Getresponse for free. You can have up to 100 subscribers without having to pay anything. this is the whole reason why I started off with get response - like I said, I didn't want to put any money into resources while I was in the learning stages. I'm not saying that it's wrong to put money into resources when you're first starting out. On the contrary, it can help speed up your learning process considerably. I'm just saying that for my comfort level, I did not feel comfortable investing money in hosting, a domain name, an auto responder, and other things while I was still new in the learning process. The only thing that I will say is that you need to invest any money that you're going to invest very wisely - especially when you're first starting out. When you're first starting out, you don't know enough to make big purchases wisely. It takes some learning before you can have enough information to discern what is a good investment and what is a bad investment. AUTORESPONDER MESSAGES For most of my lists, I don't have a pre-loaded series of messages. I generally send out my messages manually, and they are time sensitive, so I want them to go out immediately and not as part of a series. However, for this project, I am going to have a series of seven messages that are preloaded and will come once a day for seven days. The first message is going to be a general message about getting to know me and my blog and that kind of thing. The next five messages are going to be about different aspects of what I am doing as far as lifestyle changes for weight loss - exercise, diet, etc. The seventh message is going to be something that pitches my smoothie recipe Hotsheet (report). I am going to purposely keep the Hotsheet low-priced. I want it to be an impulse buy, and I just want to see how responsive this list is going to be. To give you an idea, I'm thinking of a price point around two dollars. Now, I know you're thinking that's not a whole lot of money - and it's not - but there is a lot to be said for low-priced items that sell in large volume. It's what my entire business model is based on at this point, and it has done extremely well for me. And, as my motto goes, if it ain't broke I ain't gonna fix it. Once they have purchased the smoothie Hotsheet, then I can move them to a buyer's list. I'll talk more about the sales funnel later on in the challenge, but this first item is going to separate some of the freebie seekers from the buyers. That's it for my update today - if you have any questions or if you have any resources for auto responders that you would like to mention, please leave a reply. PS - I want to thank everybody that has marked this as a five-star thread! That was a wonderful surprise! |

| My 30 Day Challenge - Day 5 & 6 I know that I will not have a lot of time to spend on this challenge but that is OK. I knew that it was important to acknowledge that you do not have to spend hours and hours on a task in order to achieve the ultimate goal of making money. That being said; On Day 5 I typed up the article that I had hand written the previous day and Day 6 I put the finishing touches to one of the products that will make up part of my offering. I was actually thinking about just doing a sales page (using Blogger Blog - choose a template and remove the columns) and getting people to buy from it but reading Shay's post it might be better to collect email addresses, get to know my list and then send out the offer. Free Auto Responder At the moment I am working with MailChimp. It is going ok, although I have read a lot of negative reviews for this product. I hope to upgrade to Aweber at some point but that is for another day and another challenge. Hope everyone has a great weekend. Tiptopcat |

The important thing is doing something each day (if possible) or when you have a chance between life's daily tasks. I think that is why so many just never seem to get started, they wait till they have "time" to do it and I don;t know about the rest here, but for me it seems like that time never happens. keep it up, the people here in this challenge are doing more then 98% of the rest of the population.

Day 5 didn't get anything done as I spent the day trading - the $ was showing me some love so I stuck with it most of the day. (I did though get some great images for my free gift so did something) Day 6 finished my free product uploaded it to my hosting (using filezilla - free FTP) set up autoresponder and I'm using my AWeber account as I know how it works and I'd rather have everything in one place. Added opt in form to website. Still have one more post till I need to think about writing more, so kept it to a short day. |

ok shay, I just setup my blog as well, I used the old blogger blog I had with just one post, it's about eye health. So I had some free PLR articles and I did some rewriting on the ones that I will use for the content of my blog. I have 12 articles ready to be published. Now I'm going to work on the article, I think that pricing a good for a minimal price is actually a very good marketing strategy instead of a $39 ebook. so I'm going to spend the day working first on my free ebook and then work on the priced item.. best of luck to all of us. =)

I am not accepting the challenge, because I have enough to do already but I am finding the response and the process fascinating. I have no doubt that Shay's Smoothie Hotsheets will make money - probably by Day 15. I'm going to make a prediction here that she makes right around $70 by Day 30. (that may be low because she seems pretty good at what she does.) I am ALSO going to predict that someone else makes money first - someone offering a service could easily see money in a few hours. Anyway, I just wanted to chime in so I could subscribe to the thread |

I registered 5 minutes ago because I had to mention this thread is really helpful! I simply felt like it would encourage you guys to keep posting your progression. I think these type of challenges are the best way to learn about internet marketing. Since I'm late I won't join the challenge, and I wouldn't anyways, it takes me about a month to set up a website. (Unfortunately, I can't settle for anything less than perfect when it comes to customizing stuff) I wish you luck everyone, please keep posting |

I'm currently at 4,229 words for the book I'm writing. When I was brainstorming the things to cover in the book, I ended up with around 25-30 topics. I've since removed about half of them, and think that the remaining topics fit together better (and will still produce a useful product). I did have someone this week ask me to send them a quote for some work for their site. It will probably end up being almost as much as I made last month in total. So that may interfere with my progress on this project. |

I think someone else already has made money (selling an asset he had, if I remember correctly - to help get money to invest in the challenge).
I'm going to go over how to get traffic in great detail a little later on in the challenge.

Blog Entries: 11 | A SEVEN DAY PROJECT EXAMPLE I'll post my progress for Day 7 in a bit. (Not much, to be honest. Now I'm sick. Bleh.) But I wanted to give you another idea of how I work. There's no way I'd be able to do this much in seven days anymore - I have too much else going on - but it's a good outline for something I could do in two weeks or so. ------ This post is basically a diary I kept as I was working on this project. Objective: My short term objective for this venture and new direction was simply to pull a profit for the week. My long-term objective was to find a site that I can eventually build up to be a major moneymaker for my business. Honestly, this was more of an exercise in focusing than in making money. My objectives for this week were the following: ~Start my website ~start building a mailing list ~develop a free product giveaway as an incentive for someone to join my mailing list ~develop a paid product and offer it for sale ~make a profit My deadline is seven days. Day One The first day was about choosing a niche and setting up a site. After doing research and also taking into consideration my background and experience, I chose the online dating niche. Yes, it is a competitive niche. That was kind of the point. I'll go into more detail on my choice of a niche on Day Three. After the niche was chosen, and some research was done on key words in that kind of thing, today was focusing on three main things: 1. setting up a blog 2. signing up for an auto-responder and getting the sign up form installed on the blog. 3. Writing some content for the blog. Day Two Today was spent doing some keyword research, and writing more content for the blog. After writing several posts, one of the posts stood out and I chose to use that post as the foundation for my free product giveaway to my list. The expanded post was about three pages. In the freebie, it also points back to my blog. Day Three Day three is when things got interesting. I was talking to a friend of mine, and she made some very good observations about my niche. Yes, it is very competitive. So then she asked the bazillion dollar question: “How are you going to stand out from all the other people in this niche?” ( I am paraphrasing, of course.) So then I got to thinking about a few things. ~How am I going to make myself distinctive from everyone else? ~How am I going to market this so that it is not drowned out by all of the competition? ~How can I use this niche/site in order to promote my products? I will be the first one to admit that I think outside the box. I would generally sit down when I have a problem and think, “How can I work this out?” More about the solution on day five. Day Four Day Four is more of the same – writing content for the blog, working on my product giveaway for my mailing list and tweaking it. I also start working on my product for sale. While I am working on my content and products, in the back of my mind I'm still mulling over the marketing ideas. Day Five Today has only two objectives. 1. I need to finish my paid product 2. I need to work on and finish the sales page. But I realized that if I want to have sales on day seven, I need to start putting some marketing in action now. So, I turned to my two favorite sources for marketing: 1. My local freebie newspapers 2. Twitter I always pick up a copy of the local freebie newspapers. There are tons of events and other local news, along with advertisements in that kind of thing. So I started reading the newspapers and my gears started turning. There were several advertisements for online dating sites in the newspapers. There were also other advertisements for certain groups that weren't necessarily for online dating, but I knew from my previous keyboard research that they were sub niches in the online dating niche. What if...hmmmmmmmm.... So I jotted down some niches after going through all three papers. I had about 20. Of those 20 I selected a few that I thought would be the biggest draw and I contacted the business owners. What can I offer? I offered an interview in my blog with some free promotion for their site or business, with the idea that the interview would be from the point of view of their customer base and the challenges that they can have with online dating. Want an example? Okay. There was an advertisement for a social gathering for single moms. I contacted the person for dating the event, explained who I was, explained that my blog was about online dating, and said I would love to have this person's insight as to the challenges that single moms face when they are trying to find a date online. I assure the person that we could do the interview over the phone and at their convenience. Now, I know that this approach is not going to give me profits in seven days. However, it is going to build future business for me, and it is going to get my name out there. (Just for the record, I am using a pen name for this project.) If these people have a mailing list, then I also work to see if they would be interested in sending my freebie offer to their list. If they don't have a list, then I'm talking to them about signing up for an auto-responder. No website? Then I will tell them about a website. ( No, this isn't a fishing expedition for off-line clients – but if the opportunity is staring you right in the face, why not, right?) Another option that I'm going to use and test out is to run a classified ad in the local freebie papers. I can get six weeks for $12 – I'd be willing to risk the 12 bucks to see if I get any results. (But, again, that's long term.) So once I got these ideas, then I thought about how I can do something on that same principle – but something that would get me results by day seven of my project. Enter Twitter. I love Twitter. People that say that Twitter marketing doesn't work aren't doing it right. I found this forum via Twitter. Of course, I started an account for this project. Yes, I do have some other accounts that I could've promoted this blog on, but I wanted to try it from scratch with a new account. I did some searching on Twitter using the #onlinedating hashtag. I was looking for two things: 1. Accounts that actually ran an online dating site. 2. People who were in a sub niche that could do a lot of online dating, but were not necessarily in the online dating niche. Next, I started reaching out to the account owners. I'm not going to the exact approach because it was different with each one, but it was basically either saying hey I have a free gift (the freebie product) that your list might be interested in, or it was for a request for an interview. My main goal for this is to build up my subscriber list and also to network for future sales. So, at the end of Day Five I have the following: 1. my blog, with 10 blog posts 2. my freebie product for my list 3. my mailing list set up 4. My Twitter account set up 5. my sale product started 6. auto responder messages loaded into the list sequence 7. and I have already begun my marketing efforts. Day Six The first thing that I did today when I get up is check the Twitter account. I already have some followers, and I have already gotten some retweets. Check the autoresponder – already gotten a few signups. Awesome. Today I had two main goals: 1. I need to finish my paid product and get the sales page done. 2. Twitter, Twitter, Twitter. Now, I know that there are a lot of people that say that Twitter marketing doesn't work. And, the way most people do it – they are right. But Twitter is about relationships. It is not about spamming your link under 8 million hash tags and then waiting for the traffic to roll in. Twitter is all about connecting with people who have similar interests. It's not something that happens overnight. So, in between working on my paid product and the sales page, I am networking like a crazy wench on Twitter. (If anybody wants to hear the boring details of how I do this, let me know and I'll post it. I am not interested in connecting with the bots and automated accounts. I am actively seeking accounts that have a real live human being behind them and I see they interact with their followers.) I am also continuing to deal with the local lead generation, as well. Just a note: I use Twitter and the local free papers because that's what I'm comfortable with. If I had some time to play around with it, I may try some other method. For this project, I want to make sure that I can do this quickly and easily, so I stick with what I know. This is also not just a one-shot thing. This will be a site that I can keep adding to. Day Seven Product done, sales page done. This was the last day for the project, but it won't be the end of the site. This was just an experiment to get me going in a different direction and to see if I can have some kind of success within seven days. Results so far have been that I've had 24 sign-ups for my list. I have had three sales, and it was for a five dollar product. Summary Overall, I'm pleased. I have a site that has made a profit. I have a product for sale. I have a list started. I have future business lined up, and I also have good networking in place. --------------- Hope this helps a little. |

I just had someone email me and ask about Twitter for traffic. I'll be going over at least 10 different ways to get traffic for your sites (maybe more) during this challenge. You don't have to use Twitter. There will be plenty of other ways to get traffic! DAY SEVEN Today I'm working on my paid product. In between coughing, hacking, and generally feeling like I'm going to croak because now I have what the kids have. Oh joy. |

Hope you get well soon shay. Thanks for all the valuable info that post in this thread. I'm still on the process of making my product and the free giveaway. My blog is almost done. Now regarding traffic, I have tried a lot of ways of driving traffic to my other blogs and I still can't find a consistent to flow of visitors, I've used twitter and facebook, but I guess i'm doing it all wrong.. but I will try to focus using twitter only for this project and see how it will do. |

| My 30 Day Challenge - Day 7 Today I put together a draft of the free eBook that I will be offering as part of this challenge. I wasn't going to build a list but reading other comments and thinking about it, it is a great idea to connect with people who will then be more inclined to buy from you. All I have to do is a little bit of editing and this eBook will be ready to go.Now I would like to create a nice ebook cover for it and I am trying to work out how to do it using Gimp. It is a little confusing at the moment but I will see if I can figure it out. If anyone can point in the direction of a free and easy way to do this, it will be very much appreciated. Creating an Email Series I need to brainstorm some ideas for the emails that will be used as part of the auto responder series. I need to decide how many are needed before I can send out my special offer. I think it should be around 7 or 8 but will need to confirm this. That’s all for today. Shay - I hope you feel better soon. Tiptopcat |

Focusing on one thing is the secret weapon of many successful internet marketers. As you have experienced, you get more done doing one thing extremely well than doing 10 things half-heartedly.

I've lost some traction over the weekend. I have some blog posts drafted for immediate posting, but still have other odds and ends to do.

Shay,
It has a 30-day free trial (no credit card needed) and then is $17.95 per month (regardless of lists size). It's TrafficWave.net and is from Warrior Brian Rooney (trafficwave). From their "About Us" page, they are in the business since 2000. I found this service a few days ago outside the Warrior Forum and then noticed Brian Rooney was a member here. From my research it seems to be a good service and a good alternative to the others already mentioned. More info in the forum here: Threads Tagged with trafficwave Hope it helps. Carlos P.S. Get well Shay

| @alwayswillingtolearn Just go back a coupler of pages and Shay has headed all the relevent page day info in red so you should be able to follow along, you will just be a few days behind. In some ways that will be good because you will be able to see how others are doing and maybe use some of their hints. |

Shay, This is amazing. So much information. I don't know HOW you do it, but it is certainly an inspiration. It's interesting to see the range of people here. From newbies to seasoned people who need a fresh push. What a great idea. I can't do it this time -- I can't even get the things done that I've committed to -- but if you do it again, I'm probably in. Diane |

Sickness quotient in the house: 1/3 of kiddos sick. 100% of the Mommies are sick. (That would be me, myself and I.) My voice sounds so bad that Dragon NaturallySpeaking is having a hard time converting it to text. Yes, I sound that bad. Not only that, but I have a show to do tomorrow night on TalkMarketingNow.com, so I need at least try to save my voice a little bit. We have 30 days for this challenge. I had hoped to have my products and site - along with the auto responder content - done by day seven. That would give me the rest of the 30 days to generate the traffic. That is simply not going to happen with the current state of illness in this house. This is a good lesson in building in some extra days in your plan. Kind of think of it as snow days. My adjusted plan is to have everything done for the site and the content by Day 10. That gives me 20 Days to drive traffic and to get my sales. That's not ideal by any means - I'd much rather have the extra days - but there's just no getting around it at this point. DAY EIGHT Basically, lying around the house, taking cold medicine in trying to help my voice sound somewhat human for tomorrow. *** Since I'm not going to get a whole lot of writing done today - it doesn't look like I'm going to anyway, but if I feel better tonight I might - I wanted to talk a little bit about some general stuff. It makes me feel really good to see how many people are participating in this challenge - especially the ones that aren't brand-new but they have projects that they have set aside and now they are working on them actively. it does my heart good to see that. NEXT MONTH'S CHALLENGE I'm already trying to get some ideas together for what I am going to do for next month. I'm going to start the challenge on the first so that it coincides with the calendar month. I'm thinking of two different challenges, and I haven't decided which one I want to do yet. 1. "Double Your Money" challenge - whatever money you invest in the project you have to double it by the end of the 30 days. 2. "Weebly" challenge - you have to create a site using Weebly and make a profit with it by the end of the 30 days. I'm leaning towards number one, but I'm open to suggestions. If you have an idea of something you would like to see other 30 day challenge that I could post here on the forum next month, please let me know. PRIZES I seriously want to have a prize for this challenge. I think it's going to be going to whoever posts the most helpful hints or about their progress in the thread. I might even have a vote at the end of the challenge to see who people think had the most helpful contributions, posted the most encouragement, etc. Suggestions for this and the criteria for selecting a winner would be appreciated as well. WHAT GIVES YOU THE MOST TROUBLE? I have already talked about the auto responder. I also plan on talking about the platform you use to sell your product, the payment processors, etc. I'm also going to talk about traffic and converting your traffic to sales. Is there anything that you really, really want to hear about? Is there anything that is giving you more trouble than the rest? For example, are you getting traffic but you're not converting to sales? Do you have a site but you're not getting any traffic? Are you having trouble coming up with content for your site or for your autoresponder series? Give me an idea of what I need to spend more time on over the next 20+ days. I want to make this thread as helpful as possible for everyone. |

I think idea of #1 is more appealing as it would be neat to roll the current months challenge into the next for some people.
