If you are using Google Analytics then you can append tracking parameters to each URL which you can then view separately in the reports:

https://support.google.com/analytics.../1033867?hl=en

That is assuming you are providing the URLs directly to the publishers...

Great results, really picking up momentum. So close to haveing 2 $100 days in a row.

For tracking the clicks from emails, you could try bitly, they are good for tracking, and have a different shortened URL for each emailer. Bitly is pretty trusted nowadays, and if its anchored in the email wont make much difference anyhow

That's easy to do, use hash tags (#) on the URLs in the newsletters.

Example:
You could even track multiple links on a single newsletter, example:
  • hxxp://my-domain.com#keyword-here-link-1 (top of newsletter)
  • hxxp://my-domain.com#keyword-here-link-2 (middle of newsletter)
  • hxxp://my-domain.com#keyword-here-link-3 (bottom of newsletter)

Since your own web page won't have a jump link on the page, what will happen is the browser screen will jump to the top of your web page like a normal URL without the hash tag (#), traffic won't notice any difference when landing on your web page.

BTW the hash tags aren't depending on any proprietary URL structures (ex: Google Analytics), you should be able to see the hash tags (traffic source) on just about anything that tracks URLs, even on your own server logs.

Another good day of sales...I made 4 sales of product #1 AND 1 sale of product #2...so today I earned $139 in commissions which puts me at a grand total of $1119...and I now have 50 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 32 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 4 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 8 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 21 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 27 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 487 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 45 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 279 visitors to my site

And of the 912 visitors to my site today 64 subscribed...

Today websites #13, #14, and #15 published 1 of my articles to their site...

As for what I accomplished today...I continued emailing website owners I've emailed in the past about using my content in their email marketing...I created 2 new messages for both autoresponder series...and I finally set up the analytics so that I know which sites are responsible for what number of subscribers...

However, to keep the confusion to a minimum and so that it's a bit less work for me I'm not going to post what websites are bringing me what number of subscribers...besides, ultimately I think it doesn't matter because as long as the sites bring in just a handful of subscribers over the course of some days, weeks, months, etc. I will be happy...

In the past I never really paid attention to (let alone focused on) stats and analytics but I'm starting to realize how important it is to look at the stats for my site, email marketing, and sales conversion...

My guess is looking at it closely will tell me not only what needs to improve but it may even give me clues as to what I should test to make those improvements...

Nothing more to really report...didn't do a whole lot today but tomorrow I'm going to start looking for new sites to contact using some of the recommendations people mentioned in this site, i.e., looking to see if authors in my niche have sites, using Facebook to find sites, etc...

Plus I'm going to dig a bit deeper and more in-depth with finding keyword phrases that I can use to search for sites via Google search...

For the most part I may be scraping the bottle of the barrel when it comes to finding more sites to contact via Google search but it can't hurt to keep going...

I'm not sure how your searching Google but I'm sure Google doesn't have a bottom.

If your selling a skin care product for women, you have thousands of potential sites you can target in multiple countries. Remember Google has country specific domains, so try your same search on different countries. You'll most likely get a totally different list of sites for each country specific search.

Yep...already mentioned that I would be doing country specific searches in another post...but thanks for the reminder...I'd actually forgotten about doing that...

What I also meant was that it's hard to finds sites that are very relevant/are in my niche that aren't direct competitors...I'm running into a lot of direct competitors that obviously won't take my content...or sites that aren't all that targeted for my niche...

Also, there are some big sites that I'd obviously have to avoid because there's no way they'd take my content...i.e., about.com, ehow.com, etc., and news and major medical sites are sites that I avoid contacting as well...

So although I've emailed a lot of sites thus far there are also a lot of sites that I've opted not to contact for the reasons given above...

However, I'm certain that I've emailed sites that weren't as relevant as they should be on the off chance that I get a few visitors and ultimately a few subscribers...

But the website owners that are currently publishing my content are all fairly relevant/complimentary to my niche so that tells me that I should contact websites that are as closely relevant/complimentary to my niche as possible for best chance of not only getting targeted traffic but of getting website owners to say 'yes' to publishing my content...

Wish my niche was more like yours...because I recall you mentioning that in the past you worked closely with a site owner who to me sounded like 1 of your biggest competitors...

Anyway, I'm going to keep going because there were a couple of days where it seemed like I wouldn't be able to find suitable sites to contact but then I'd get on a little hot streak where I would find suitable sites to contact...so I'm going to have to exercise some patience, more consistency, and a bit more focus I think...

My apologies for not posting my results yesterday...I called it an early night last night since I was a bit tired and under the weather...

Anyway, yesterday I made 4 sales of product #1 for a total of $72 in commissions yesterday and a grand total of $1191...and I now have 54 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Actually since I'm getting closer to my goal it's worth noting that in the very beginning of all this I just rounded the commissions I made for both products to whole numbers...

The exact commission I make for product #1 is $17.98 and the exact commission I make for product #2 is $67.49...so with that being said the EXACT grand total I'm at is $1191.37...

I think from now on I'll just give the exact grand total rather than rounding up or down to a whole number...

Yesterday's stats:

- 1st website = 36 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 3 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 5 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 17 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 21 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 13th website = 462 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 53 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 184 visitors to my site

And of the 791 visitors to my site yesterday 66 subscribed...

Yesterday websites #13, #14, and #15 published 1 of my articles to their site...website #14 is more than likely going to publish the last article they were interested in on their site today (they've published an article everyday since they first article they used)...

As far as what I accomplished yesterday...I responded to a couple of emails from site visitors/subscribers...I emailed the last of website owners I contacted in the past who have opt-ins so that I could attempt to get them to use my content in their email marketing...I created 1 new message for both subscribers' lists...

Plus I got some replies back from website owners I've emailed but none of them were interested in using my content in their emails to their subscribers...

So nothing to eventful yesterday but I am very happy with the progress I've been making as of late...I'm more than confident I'll hit my goal...

I made 3 sales of product #1 today which was a total of $53.94 and brings my grand total to $1245.31...and I now have 57 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 28 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 3 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 12 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 19 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 427 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 49 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 126 visitors to my site

And of the 678 visitors to my site today 59 subscribed...

Today websites #13, #14, and #15 published 1 of my articles...website #14 published the last 1 they wanted to use today...

As for what I accomplished today...I sent out 30 emails to new website owners I haven't contacted yet...I replied to some emails from a few website owners who replied to my email but none were interested in using my content...so I didn't do a whole lot but it was still a fairly productive day...

Plus I got back a letter that was a part of the 1st batch I sent...it was apparently 'undeliverable'...

However, I did get a reply from 1 of my letters of batch 2...but the email was basically to say that they're not interested in 'outside content' at this time...

So not much to report...

However, I did read a few WF threads that made me think of a few things that could have a negative impact on my results in the future...

Read a few threads about service disruption for Hostgator as a result of websites being migrated to different servers...fortunately out of the 3 years I've been with HG I've never had any major issues with them...but I'm starting to read more and more complaints about HG...seems like HG is changing for the worse and not the better over time...

My concern is how can I "backup" my site and host it elsewhere if HG becomes too problematic in the future?

Moreover, I read a thread about "backing up" a subscriber list...I want to know how I should keep a list of my subscribers separate from Aweber as a precaution just in case Aweber were to ever shut me down (whether it's by mistake or on purpose it doesn't matter I want to protect the list I'm building)?

Any thoughts and suggestions about "backing up" my site and migrating the site to another web host, and "backing up" my subscriber lists would be greatly appreciated...

Apologies for the late post...

Yesterday I made 4 sales of product #1 for a total of $71.92 in commissions and which brings my grand total to $1317.23...and I now have 61 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Yesterday's stats:

- 1st website = 23 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 11 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 14 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 401 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 40 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 92 visitors to my site

And of the 597 visitors to my site yesterday 61 subscribed...

Yesterday no websites published any of my articles on their site...but I realize that website #13 published 1 extra more the day before yesterday than what they originally said they would...didn't realize it the day it happened...:p

Anyway, as far as what I accomplished yesterday...I created 2 new messages for both subscribers lists...I looked over a few email replies of website owners who said they weren't interested in using my content...looked over some stats for my email lists and my both my websites...and I sent out a few emails to website owners I wanted to 'reconnect' with but haven't in contacted in awhile...

So not a whole lot got accomplished but I did get a little bit done...

You're already earning on autopilot (kind of) and you'll replace your day job in no time! Congratulations - you're an example for all of us newbs.

Thanks for the nice comment.

But I should put a disclaimer in here that I don't work...but I do help my boyfriend with his eBay business and have for a few years now...so that's kind of like having a job even though he does the "heavy lifting" with his business .

So I do have a BIG advantage over most who have full-time jobs and families (I just have a boyfriend and a dog...no kids...no full-time job)...so to be honest I could be getting quite a bit more accomplished but I'm a little lazy...I will be stepping it up once I feel comfortable that I know what I'm doing...

The big lesson that I hope most who are following this thread get is to pick 1 method/strategy/tactic and give it their all for at least 30 days...and when I say their all I mean focusing as much of their time as they can on doing that 1 thing and nothing else...even if it's something completely different from what I'm doing...

Believe me there were times when I was tempted to do what I'm doing AND something else at the same time...honestly I'm still fighting the urge to start on a new site/niche (although after this challenge I think I will start on a new site that's in the same niche but targeting a more specific demographic of people)...

But right now I'm going to stay focused on what I'm currently doing...really what I should do after this challenge is focus on my conversions...across the board it's not all that good, i.e., the number of publishers that say 'yes,' sales conversion of my subscribers on both lists, the opt-in rate to my list could be improved, etc.

However, if I'm getting these kind of results and my conversions across the board aren't that good imagine the kind of results I would be getting if I was actually pretty good or even decent at conversions...

Good day for sales...I made 4 sales of product #1 and 1 sale of product #2 for a total of $139.41 in commissions today and a grand total of $1456.64...I now have 65 subscribers on my buyers' list...by tomorrow I will obviously hit my $1500 goal!

Today's stats

- 1st website = 26 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 3 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 8 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 15 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 379 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 38 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 65 visitors to my site

And of the 552 visitors to my site today 56 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished...I created 3 new messages for both subscribers' lists...I replied to a few emails from site visitors/subscribers...I emailed 24 website owners...

I'm thinking starting tomorrow I might try the whole commenting on the website owner's site first, building rapport and then asking if they'd be interested in using my content...quite a bit more time consuming since I guess I'll be building rapport over a few days/a week or 2...still giving whether I should do it that way some more thought...

Other than what I did above I was surfing around the WF a lot today...:p

Congratulations Britt!!

Have you read Pat Flynn's latest post? He said he hired a virtual assistant to collect email addresses from related sites in his niche. He got 400 emails from it. Then he send out emails at a rate of 3 per minute using textexpander. What do you think? Might be an option for you as well to increase finding suitable partners and to invest some of your money? Maybe not good for your current website though, but it might be an option for a new site.

Hi,

ist this about to get syndicate traffic from ezines?

@battlesync; you get 39 visitors/day to your 1 st. website?

Example; www.passivpanda.com, the owner wrote that he has got 15.000 visitors from only 1 article.

What is true here?

Is to get syndicate traffic from big ezines only a very slow method to get free traffic to build a list like 10,20,30 visitors day ?

Syndicate traffic must bring far more than "30 visitors a day".

I've heard the name Pat Flynn mentioned a couple of times in WF threads but I'm honestly not familiar with him...

I would maybe consider using a virtual assistant to find actual web addresses that I could contact but I wouldn't automate the process of sending out the emails...you don't want the recipients thinking that it's a "template" email that goes out to hundreds of other people...the email needs to be personalized in some way...

What I do to personalize it is to say their name (if I know it from the website but if not I don't stress this minor detail) and say something about the content on their site so that they know I at least skimmed over the site...so automating emails would not really be a good option for me...but having a virtual assistant "find" the websites I could contact would be ideal...just not in my immediate plans right now...

As an affiliate you shouldn't be trying to "sell" products but you should try to "pre-sell" products...unless you're trying to be both an affiliate and a vendor that sells their own products...I'm just an affiliate so I pre-sell...big difference between pre-selling vs selling...

My apologies for not posting yesterday...had some issues with my laptop (will probably need a new 1 in the coming months but I can afford it now )...and I called it an early night once the issues were dealt with...

Anyway, I made 4 sales of product #1 yesterday so my commission for yesterday was $71.92 which brings my grand total to $1528.56!

I've surpassed my $1500 goal by December 1st already!

Kind of debating with myself on whether I should continue to post on a daily basis now that I've reached and surpassed my goal...I'm leaning toward continuing but we'll see...

I now have 69 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Yesterday's stats:

- 1st website = 19 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 0 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 1 visitor to my site

- 4th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 5 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 10 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 328 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 29 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 27 visitors to my site

And of the 428 visitors to my site yesterday 47 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished yesterday...I did manage to create 2 new messages for both my subscriber lists...I got email replies from website owners but as usual most weren't interested, a few wanted 'unique' content so I put them on my "unique content list," and a couple cited the duplicate content being a reason for saying 'no'...

There was 1 email response that seemed kind of promising...this person seemed interested in using my content for their email subscriber list...only issue was that it's really an autoresponder series they have set up and not a "newsletter" so they're trying to figure out how to incorporate articles of mine that they want to use...

Luckily for me I don't think it's an autoresponder "series" with a lot of messages already in the series so once they get that figured out I could be getting visitors to my site from their email marketing sooner rather than later...

Plus they have a subscriber list of 2K+...not a large list but I should at least get a handful of visitors to my site, especially if they use a few articles at least...the person is interested in using 5 of my articles...

So I guess they'll be getting back to me or that I might start seeing a trickle of traffic from my articles being in the autoresponder series...

Not an extremely eventful day yesterday but some things got accomplished.

I'm going to try and answer your questions to the best of my ability but honestly I'm not understanding your post completely...

Personally I'm getting traffic mostly from websites and blogs...I'm just now starting to get traffic from 1 online "newsletter" which I guess could be considered an "ezine"...

And now it looks like I might be getting traffic from this new person's "autoresponder series" if I'm lucky...

Anyway, the whole point of getting your articles/content syndicated is to have your content published in as many places as possible (that bring you targeted and relevant traffic most importantly)...

And you want these places to continue to publish your future content as well so that you build a network of publishers that will again publish your future content...

My posts about each website are OTHER people's websites and the number of visitors each 1 of those websites brings to MY site on a daily basis...you have to have some sort of analytics set up on your site to know (some analytics software are more accurate than others)...

And it is definitely possible to get 15K visitors from 1 article...I haven't experienced this personally but I'm confident that it's possible...

The amount of traffic you get from article syndication depends on a few factors that you must execute fairly well:

1. Create good content/articles...needs to be informative but at the same time interesting...no one wants to use a dry, dull and boring piece of content nor do they want to use content that's information is wrong, opinion-based (unless you're an expert of some kind) and/or that is already widely known...

2. Where your content gets published and how much traffic those places get themselves is very important...your content has to be published where your target audience sees it and there has to be enough traffic where it's published or more than likely you won't get any to your site...

3. Your resource box/byline that directs people back to your site is very important...for the purposes of article syndication it can't be too "salesy" or your content will have less of a chance of being published by others but it's still got to be good enough to direct people back to your site...there's a delicate balance...

So yes, it's possible for article syndication to bring in more than 30 visitors per day to your site (just look at my posts and that should tell you)...but it's also possible that it brings in less than 30 visitors per day to a site too...

Again it depends on how well the person is doing the 3 things I listed above...if even 1 of those 3 things isn't done well then the person may not get very much traffic via article syndication...

I hope I answered your questions and I hope you understood this post...

That's going to depend on your market/niche...

Mainly the way I've been finding sites is by using a list of keyword phrases in my niche (A LOT of keyword phrases by the way) and doing a search in Google of each and every keyword phrase I have on my list...

And I don't just look on the first page of Google either...I'll go dozens of pages deep to find sites...and I'm also using keyword phrases that are related to my niche sometimes indirectly related as well...

There are other ways you can find sites, some of which have been mentioned in various posts throughout this thread...

As far as "knowing" how much traffic a site gets there is no real way to "know" unless you can see their traffic logs or their analytics...so there really is no way to really know...

However, there are clues as to whether a site is getting a lot of traffic...the number of comments the blog/site gets...if the site is constantly posting new content (not the best indication though because sites that don't get traffic do this as well)...some sites have stat counters that show directly on the site how much traffic it gets...

But again the search terms and the sites that get a lot of traffic will be dependent on what market/niche you're in...

So your first step needs to be determining the niche your going to enter...if you don't know that to begin with then how are you going to be able to do anything...

Marco005,

I just also want to mention that you really should be contacting a lot of sites to get your content onto whether the site looks like it gets a lot of traffic or not...because:

1. Some sites may "appear" like they don't get a lot of traffic when they really do...

2. Even if a site only gives you a trickle of traffic over the course of time it can add up...

3. If you have several sites bringing you a trickle of traffic on a daily basis that can add up to a lot of daily traffic if you have a lot of sites doing that...

My point is that you shouldn't necessarily dismiss a site just because it doesn't bring you a ton of traffic...any site that's relevant and has the kind of traffic that you want and that is willing to use your content you should give them that content...

Because it doesn't require a lot of your time to send them articles every so often AND a site that might not be getting a lot of traffic now could in the future be getting A LOT of traffic so if you establish a relationship with them NOW you'll be in line to get some of that big traffic in the future...

Had a really good day as far as sales...I made 4 sales of product #1 and 1 sale of product #2 for a total of $139.41 in commissions which pushes my grand total to $1667.97...

However, I now have 72 subscribers on my buyers' list...1 person didn't subscribe to my buyers' list for some reason...this is the 2nd time this has happened since I started...I'll be looking into getting the CB List Automator...meant to before but it kept slipping my mind honestly...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 16 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 3 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 7 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 9 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 286 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 25 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 143 visitors to my site

And of the 498 visitors to my site today 46 subscribed...

Today website #15 published the 2nd of the 8 articles they were interested in using...

As for what I accomplished today...it wasn't very much...spent WAY too much time surfing around on the WF today...more so than usual...but I did create 1 new message for both autoresponder series...and I batted emails back and forth with the website owner who was interested in using 5 of my articles...

She finally decided to stick in my 5 articles at the tail-end of her autoresponder series...apparently she only had 10 messages to start with that are spaced out every 3-5 days...but her list of subscribers aren't as responsive as she would like...

So part of the emails we batted back and forth were me giving her advice/tips about what to do with her email marketing...but on a positive note she does genuinely want to help her list of subscribers hence using my articles as content for her email marketing...

Another issue for me maybe not getting a large amount of traffic from this...other than her list being 2K+ and that they're not incredibly responsive...is the fact that her list isn't as targeted as I would like to my niche...

But I'll take all the traffic I can get...

I might even start getting a trickle of traffic being that she said that some of her subscribers are already at the end of the autoresponder series...I really let her know that she should beef up her autoresponder series with a combination of content and a few promos of products she feels would be useful to her subscribers...

Moreover, I got a reply back from 1 of the letters I sent in the 2nd batch and it looks like the site owner wants to use 4 of my articles on their site according to the email I got from them...

I've only contacted this particular site twice via email and the last email was awhile ago...so when I asked them out of curiosity why they never responded to my 2 emails the website owner said that she didn't recall ever seeing my emails...

Her explanation was that sometimes she deletes email without reading them if it doesn't "look" important or "looks" like spam based on the subject line...she said that it's possible that the emails could've ended up in her spam folder and she automatically deletes the spam without looking at it...

Anyway, the site is a pretty decent-sized site that I think gets a good amount of traffic...hard to tell though because commenting isn't allowed on the site and there's no real indicators that the site is a high volume site but hopefully I get some traffic from it...

She will publish 1 of the articles tomorrow...and will publish 1 article on a daily basis until she's out of articles to use...

So although today wasn't my most productive day it was still fairly eventful...

Hi Brittlesnc,

I've been reading through your thread since August 18 and I must say that I'm quite happy for your success in November already.

My question to you is:

1. Do you use a pen name in this niche?

2. If you do use a pen name how do you approach the website owners letting them know that you're using a pen name? What's your explanation?

3. What is the purpose of the buyers website? I'm sorry... it might be obvious but why don't you just use the first website to funnel your list?

Sorry that was 3 questions

Gil...

Hi Gil Doer,

In answer to your questions:

1. Yes I use a pen name.

2. I use the pen name when I'm contacting them and I don't explain to them that I'm using a pen name...but you have the option of telling website owners that you're using a pen name if you would like...I just choose not to...

But if I wanted to tell them I'm using a pen name in the future I don't really even think it would be that big of an issue...

So for me there is no moral dilemma about that...

I like the anonymity it provides and if I want to go into several different niches in the future it won't be an issue for the reason explained by Alexa Smith in the following posts and some other posts do a good job of explaining why pen names are useful as well:

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6901040

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7034625

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7036760

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post7036987

However, for those following this thread if you don't want to use a pen name you don't have to obviously BUT the benefits of using a pen name boil down to:

- anonymity
- safety
- perception of authority (helps if you're in multiple unrelated niches)
- helps with effecting marketing (but you can't lie about your life and/or how the product you're promoting helped you if you've never used it; and don't lie about credentials, i.e., MD, PhD, MBA, etc.)

3. I chose to create a "buyers' website" so that I could separate the content that my freebie list and my buyers' list read...

Basically once a "freebie subscriber" becomes a buyer I give them access to the "premium information" on the "buyers' website"...

So I really am copying something that fellow warrior MYOB did in the past (I don't think he does it anymore) which is outlined here:

http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post6514392

Right now I don't have CB List Automator so it's possible for someone to come in and enter a fake transaction number...hasn't happened thus far...

In fact, 2 people that bought product #1 didn't even subscribe to get onto my buyers' list and collect their freebie plus access to the buyers' website...

I'm not exactly certain how many I've sent out but I know it's getting very close to 1K...it might even be slightly over 1K at this point...

With the snail mail it's been 20 pieces exact...

What I've noticed about the sites that say 'yes' to syndicating my content are that most of them are medium to large-sized women's general health sites...and I've noticed that I get a better response to sites that are indirectly related to my niche...

As far as my approach I'm pretty direct...I email them commenting/complimenting them on their site (I don't go into specifics because I usually look around a site for maybe 10-15 minutes to kind of get a feel for the site)...

But I make statements in the email about the site that lets them know I at least browsed the site rather than sending them the same exact email that could've been sent to hundreds of other sites...

I've been informed that this isn't the best approach on quite a few occasions but for now it's one that I've chosen to go with and it seems to be working okay...

As for the question about "distribution channels" I'm not certain what you mean by that...the publishers who have said 'yes' to me a few of them have subscriber lists/online newsletters...and I've mentioned which website owners are using my content in their email marketing...

I don't know if that's what you mean by "distribution channels"...

Moreover, I am seeing the 80/20 rule taking effect but because I'm currently in 1 niche with 2 websites (1 for my freebie list the other for my buyer's list) I'm more focused on getting as many websites/online newsletters to say 'yes' to syndicating my content than I am about what "types" of websites I should be approaching...

Probably when I go into more niches and have more sites I'm going to HAVE to make better use of my time by approaching websites that are MOST likely to say 'yes' as opposed to asking "as many sites as possible"...but right now with 1 niche to focus on I don't need to be super selective about the sites I approach in an effort to be highly efficient...

Congrats brittlesnc!

I have two questions about your article syndication strategy.

You've searched and emailed literally hundreds of webmasters related or somehow-related to your niche and you've got around 15 who accepted publishing your articles and finally sending traffic to your site.

At this moment, most of those sites are sending you testimonial traffic or even no traffic at all, probably because your articles were published some time ago and are no longer on the main page of their sites.

At some point (probably not far away) you will have contacted all or most of the blogs/sites you are interested in publishing your articles.

My two questions are:

Isn't it logical to think that at some point you will be receiving less and less traffic from your "syndicated sites" (especially from those who stop publishing your new content)?

I know your reluctance to guest blogging, but don't you think that only one guest post in an important site of your niche (or a related niche) can bring you more traffic than all the other together?

Thanks in advance!

You are doing a great job!

Nice job meeting your goal! Thats awesome.

Looking at this contest as a whole, do you know what your net profit was? Also, any idea on how many hours you spent on this challenge?

I'm not saying that I'm against guest blogging but at this moment and time I'm just not interested in doing it...

And I know that your strategy was to rank your guest posts in Google but the thing about my niche is that ranking for any worthwhile keyword phrases would be difficult and honestly just not worth the investment of time and money...that and I'm just tired of playing the "games" with Google that I've played in the past lol...:p

So if you take ranking the guest post in the search engines out of the equation guest posting would virtually be the same as what I'm doing now just A LOT more work because I'd have to create multiple "unique" articles...

And who says that the website owners that have agreed to publish my content thus far would stop in the future...if accounts like Alexa Smith and MYOB are anything to go by it sounds like many of their publishers go on to publish more of their content in the future not less...

Moreover, as far as running out of potential publishers to contact it probably won't be happening anytime soon...sure some days it seems like I won't be able to find anymore to contact but then there are other days where I find a "bunch" of them to contact...

Likewise, at this moment and time I've been focused on websites that I'm finding in Google I haven't even started with offline outlets nor have I really focused on ezines and online newsletters until recently...

Not to mention some of the tips I've gotten in this thread alone for finding potential publishers that I haven't even started on...

However, even if I did start running low on sites to contact I would just go back and "reconnect" with site owners I've contacted in the past...granted my success rate with this hasn't been all that good but that is how I got 1 of the current site owners that has used my content to say 'yes'...

They said 'yes' because their situation had changed and the same could hold true for other site owners as well...

But their is risk with "reconnecting" on a consistent basis with site owners as I mentioned in a post 1 of the site owners I "reconnected" with said to quit contacting them or else they'd file a spam complaint...so their is risk but I'm fine with taking that risk...

And in answer to your question...maybe guest blogging would bring me more traffic...in the short term...but long term probably not because there's no way I would be able to keep up with the demands of providing "unique" content to multiple sites...

I know there's outsourcing but for the quality I would want it wouldn't come cheap AND I think people underestimate how hard it is to find good writers...I may have to burn through a bit of money before I find a writer(s) I like...just read the threads in this forum about outsourcing to get a general idea of how hard it can be...

So again your idea of ranking your guest posts in the search engines to get "consistent" traffic is a good idea BUT being able to do it for worthwhile keyword phrases is another story...

Not to mention I agree with Alexa Smith...in my past experience with search engine traffic it doesn't convert as well as other forms of traffic...at least in my limited experience...I'm not saying search engine traffic is horrible but it's not as good as some would have people believe...

Again if others want to guest post I encourage them to do so and wish them luck but for now I'm just not doing it...

I know it comes as a disappointment to some because they want me to kind of be the guinea pig for doing it but sorry guys...you're probably going to have to go it alone and try it out for yourself...

And the funny thing is even if I'm successful at guest posting doesn't necessarily mean that others would be...and it's the same with the article syndication as well...I'm seeing success with it but it doesn't mean that others will...

Because a lot of things have to align as everyone is seeing AND there is a bit of luck involved...at least I think so for what it's worth...

If I come across as reluctant to do guest blogging it's because I am and I just don't feel that guest blogging is for me and my goals...

My apologies for the rambling of this post and if I come across as being angry or annoyed...I'm not lol...I'm just choosing to pass on guest blogging for now...:p

Like I said before the 'commonality' amongst the sites that have been saying 'yes' are--- that most of them are medium to large-sized women's general health sites...and I've noticed that I get a better response to sites that are indirectly related to my niche...

As for having the data for paid traffic...I'm no expert but I have done a tiny bit of paid traffic in the past...the thing I learned about metrics that you get from other traffic sources such as SEO (or in this case article syndication) doesn't mean that those metrics will be meaningful when using paid traffic...

Paid traffic is not the same as other traffic...so while my numbers from article syndication can serve as a guide or a starting point it more than likely won't be all that accurate for paid traffic...

Because although the demographics of the traffic might be the same people who click on ads aren't in the same mindset and don't take the same actions (call-to-action) as someone reading an article...

Moreover, even if it's the same person reading an article vs clicking an ad that same person is going to respond differently to an ad vs an article...

I prefer the article approach because it builds trust/authority more so than an ad ever could...

And even if someone reads 1 of my articles on a site that they frequent and don't take any action (clicking thru to my site) I still may get another chance to get them to take the desired action because they may read another 1 of my articles on that same site that gets that person to trust me more so than the previous article that they read did...

But again I'm no expert...my statements are more opinion-based than they are experienced-based since my experience with paid advertising is extremely limited...

And I know from your statement that you're not advocating/recommending paid advertising BUT I just had the urge to comment on why I prefer article syndication over paid ads...although paid ads do have some BIG advantages over article syndication...

Advantages such as bringing in more traffic (as long as you have the cash)...being able to test something very quickly rather than waiting awhile (like article syndication) to see if something converts/works...being to massively scale up your successes (may not be possible at times with article syndication)...and a whole list of advantages that I may not even be aware of...

My apologies for yet another rambling post...

It becomes important to take notice of those patterns because when you run out of sites to approach, you can still use that data to buy traffic that converts. You likely have enough data at this point to know what a click is worth to you from each type of site that posted an article for you.

Revenue/Clicks tells you what you can afford to spend on the clicks and still be profitable...err...kinda...

Banner ads likely won't perform the same as editorial links, but you'll just have to see.

Anyhow, keep up the great work!

I don't know exactly what my net profit is but I would say most of it is profit...2 domain names don't cost much (I think I paid about $16 total)...hosting for the last few months was about $30 total...Aweber was my biggest expense (I think I've paid about $50 so far and I've got another payment of $30 coming up...so I'll say $80 total)...

So my estimate for expenses is somewhere between $110-$150 which includes all the other little things I spent money on that I can't think of/remember...

However, it is possible to spend less if you go super cheap/free on certain things...but I don't recommend it unless you absolutely can't scrape together $100-$150...

As far as the hours are concerned I have no clue lol...:p

I wasn't keeping track...and some of the hours I spent "working" weren't as productive as they could've been...

I know in the very beginning (the first 2-3 weeks) I was spending 6-8 hours a day working and a couple of times upwards to 10 hours...

But now I don't have to spend that much time on working...I do still at times put in 6 hours a day but that's typically when I'm looking for sites to contact and I'm having a hard time finding sites...

I made 4 sales of product #1 today for a total of $71.92 in commissions and that brings my grand total to $1739.89...and I now have 75 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 14 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 1 visitor to my site

- 3rd website = 3 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 7 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 213 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 20 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 98 visitors to my site

- 16th website (using my content in their autoresponder series) = 6 visitors to my site

- 17th website (responded to my snail mail) = 25 visitors to my site

And of the 399 visitors to my site today 38 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished today...I created 3 new messages for both my subscriber lists (was actually very tedious creating those messages and the content that the link inside those messages pointed to...but I wanted it to be pretty good)...and I sent emailed 20 new website owners...

Moreover, I got an email from a website owner who was replying back to 1 of my snail mail letters from the most recent batch of letters...unfortunately they had no interest whatsoever in my content...oh well lol...:p

And as from the stats that you see above the site owner that wanted to use my content in her autoresponder series has obviously figured out a way to do so since I'm already seeing traffic as a result of her doing so...

Likewise, the site owner that replied to 1 of my snail mail letters has used 1 of 4 of my articles she's interested in...and apparently she'll be publishing 1 article per day...

So not an extremely eventful day but I'm happy...

Actually, my comment had nothing to do with ranking your guest posts in SE but with your own stats.

You've got enough data to step back and analyze it.
  • Website #13 is giving you more visitors than the rest added up, so I guess that choosing the correct site where to publish your articles is important.
  • Although you can't be sure about the traffic a site receives, there are ways to estimate it.
  • Google's unfair campaing against article syndication (comparing it to spamming techniques) is making many webmasters be afraid of "duplicate" content. Probably, the sites that base their main traffic source in google are those who are rejecting you... and are those with more traffic.
  • Although you don't like SE direct traffic, probably in sites like #13 you are receiving indirect SE traffic (that site acts as a filter for targetted readers).

Basically, your stats tell me that it could be more beneficial for your business to leave aside the machine-gun and become a sniper. Focusing in two or three top quality sites rather than in a any-kind-of-related-to-my-niche site. Probably, those sites will require unique content to accept publishing your content, but it's just two or three sites.

Not a disappointment at all and not trying you to be any kind of guinea pig. Sorry if it looks like that. I just like to follow your "journey" and comment what I think (btw, for my personal future experience, I wont limit myself to article syndication so I will become my own guinea pig).

Your success is an example of how to start and focus, and now it looks like a "semi autopilot" business (maybe publishing one new article every ten days and keep contacting webmasters, ezines, newsletter and offline publications).

This is why I think you are in the perfect moment of giving a try to something I "read" in your stats (you don't even have to tell us your results, you've given us way much more we could expect).

I get what you're saying...I really do...I just don't happen to agree...

I'm choosing to take a more long term approach...

Yes I could guest post for 2 or 3 sites (ahead of time you don't know what sites are going to bring you what amount of traffic...it's impossible to know...) BUT that means that you would have to ignore all of the other sites that could bring you just as much traffic if not more...

Because when I'm contacting these sites I have know way of knowing how much traffic they're "really" getting...sure there are indications and signs such as how many comments you see on the site, how often new content is posted, etc. BUT just because a site gets a lot of site doesn't mean that you're going to get a lot traffic to your site from that site...

2 examples for me would be sites #5 and #8 (and those 2 are just off the top of my head)...they appear to get quite a bit of traffic but I haven't been able to get a lot of that traffic coming to my site...

Furthermore, if I had to give a rough estimate of the number of sites that were interested in unique content that I contacted I'd have to say a little over 100 sites would've used my content if it were "unique"...

Imagine if just even 10 of those sites brought back the kind of traffic that site #13 does...that means that if I stuck to my plan of writing 2-3 articles per month for each site that I'd have to create 20-30 articles per month for 1 niche...

So if I plan on going into more than 1 niche (I do plan on going into more in the future) I'd have to be creating quite a bit of content per month and over the course of a year on top of everything else I would need to do to set things up, i.e., contacting sites, creating content for email marketing, tracking stats, etc.

I know there's outsourcing but again for the quality I want that would be expensive and the ROI on each individual article created would be a lot lower if I used the articles for "unique" guest posting vs article syndication...

Plus outsourcing isn't as easy as some would have you beleive when trying to find a good writer...at least in the beginning...and with guest posting for multiple sites in multiple niches I would need more than 1 writer...probably quite a few if I didn't want the quality of the writing to suffer...

So for me short-term guest posting would probably yield great results...but long term most likely not unless I was only going to be in 2 or 3 niches...which is not my plan...I'm hoping over the course of a couple of years to be in 6-10 niches...that would be pretty tough if I were doing guest posting...

Guest posting definitely has it's merits and strong points...and I HIGHLY recommend it for people whose long term plans/goals are to be in 2 or 3 niches at the MOST...but for people who want to be in 5+ niches over the course of time it could be a bit problematic...

Maybe less problematic if for each niche you only intend to guest post for a handful of sites (but I would find that pretty limiting unless these were sites providing you with A LOT of traffic)...

What I like about article syndication is that I don't have to work so hard at content to get great results...

I get leverage, flexibility, and I don't have to constantly be creating content which gets pretty tedious if you want to create informative but at the same time interesting articles...

Not to mention creating content for my autoresponder series is already tedious enough as it is without me having to create more articles for other sites to use on top of it...:p

But people who are following this thread definitely need to weigh the pros and cons of both guest blogging AND article syndication in terms of both their short term and long term goals/plans...

However, if you're going to be focused on 1 niche I DEFINITELY see guest blogging as being better than article syndication (you could even do a combination of both guest blogging and article syndication)...

On the other hand, if you're plans are to be in 10+ niches, even if entering those niches are spread out over a couple of years, I DEFINITELY think that article syndication is better...

Unless you intend to be working A LOT as a 1-man operation using guest posting OR if you're prepared to shell out a decent buck for outsourcing AND go through some of the challenges that finding good writers entails...

It's possible to do a combination of guest blogging and article syndication even if you're entering 10+ niches you just would have to be more selective about what sites to guest blog for BUT again unless you only plan on guest blogging for 1-3 sites per niche that's still going to be a lot of content...

Point is everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with AND what they feel is best for their own IM endeavors/business...

Apologies for the super long post...but it's just that I feel pretty strongly that guest blogging has good "short term" gains but not so much "long term"...

I've been following along with your journey, and you are doing great! It is nice to see someone testing out the article syndication model, and seeing that it actually does work. Looks like things are starting to pick up speed for you.

Got a couple questions. How are you writing your resource box? Are you mentioning a free report you are giving away on your site, or are you just saying they can find out more about your topic on your site?

Also are you finding that your sales are coming more from your free report link or your autoresponder series?

Congrats on you success!

-Tom

I'm basically saying they can find out more about the topic on my site in the resource box...

Although you are making me think that I should test between the 2 types of resource box to see which brings in more subscribers (and not just which brings more visitors to my site)...

And I'm definitely getting more sales from my autoresponder series BUT I am surprised at the number of subscribers buying after they get the free report that links to the review of the product on my site...it's not a whole lot of people but more than I was expecting...

Thanks for the congrats Tom...

I'm always amazed at how many people are following this thread...I figured this section of the forum was kind of tucked away and that maybe 2 or 3 people would be commenting on this thread and maybe a dozen or so actually following it...:p

Brittany,

OK I understand the reason why you have the buyers website... but need more clarification?

So the Freebie List Website promotes/"talks about" your 1st Clickbank product and the Buyer's List Website promotes/"talks about" the 2nd Higher Commission Clickbank product?

Or do both websites discuss both products?

As per my understanding, Alexa has said that she writes about 2 or more products per website.

Of course you have the right to do what you want I'm just curious...and am justy trying to understand the inner workings of your "article syndication funnel system".

thanks

Yep...the "freebie list website" promotes the 1st CB product and the "buyer's list website" promotes the 2nd CB product...

And I think you're right when you say that Alexa does it differently...

If you read posts by the different warriors who use article syndication for traffic generation---Alexa Smith, MYOB, tpw, JohnMcCabe, Joe Robinsons, TiffLee, AnniePot, etc. they all do things differently but they all use article syndication as either their main source of traffic or in tandem with other traffic generation methods...

The point is that you have to do what you feel comfortable with and what you feel works for you...after all your business is YOUR business so run it out you see fit...

Going to make my daily post early for a change...getting sleepy so I'm going to do it before I fall asleep...:p

- 14th website = 16 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 56 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 41 visitors to my site

And of the 329 visitors to my site today 32 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished today...I created 3 new messages for both autoresponder series...emailed 20 new website owners...and emailed other website owners that I wanted to "reconnect" with...so didn't do a whole lot but still accomplished a little...

Plus I looked over my subscriber lists and noticed 2 email addresses that were email addresses for a website, i.e., brittany@mywebsite.com...so I checked out the websites for both because based on the domain name it seemed that their sites might be sites I want my content on...

The 1 was a blog geared toward women that had a lot of content about a lot of different subjects...it appeared to be a site with a good amount of traffic based on the number of comments I was seeing on the site...

Whereas the other subscriber's site was a medium-sized site targeting health conscience and environmentally friendly women...

And after looking at both sites I contacted each respective subscriber about using my content on their site...I contacted them a few hours ago so I don't expect to hear from either until tomorrow possibly...

Hi Brittlesnc,

Just found this thread and must first say 'thanks' for posting it and giving us some encouragement by being an example.

I have a question.

Are your sites Freesites or blogs? What kind of structure do you use for them? Also, is the opt-in page on the same domain as the articles? Same question for sales page?

Thanks

My sites are Wordpress sites with paid hosting...

I'm not certain what you mean by structure but I'll do my best to explain...the articles that I use for syndication are on my sites as posts and the links in messages of my autoresponder series point to regular pages on my sites...

As for the opt-in...on the homepage is a large opt-in that's kind of like the first post...the following is an example of what I tried to make my opt-in look like on the homepage except without it being quite as large (didn't succeed though plus my site isn't nearly as attractive :p):

Create Hype - Marketing Tips for Creative Women Entrepreneurs

Likewise, I have another smaller, less prominent opt-in box in the site-wide sidebar so that every page a visitor is on that opt-in box is there...

However, all my syndicated articles have a resource box that points to the homepage of the site so that people who click the link in the resource box land on my homepage with the prominent opt-in...

Moreover, I don't have a sales page on my site...I'm an affiliate not a vendor that sales their own products...so I have a page that reviews the product I'm promoting and that 'review page' links out to the sales page of the product I'm promoting...

Thus as an affiliate I'm really just 'pre-selling' the product...I let the sales page of the product do the "real selling"...which might explain why my conversion rate is under 10% even though I'm doing email marketing...the sales page for the product isn't all that good...it's not terrible but the sales page could be better...

Also, I'm hoping to get my conversion rate from a "free subscriber" becoming a buyer closer to 20%...but I guess it depends on how long a subscriber has been on the list...

I've been told and read in a few places that if a subscriber hasn't made a purchase within 3 months of subscribing to a list that the chances of them buying greatly diminishes...don't know how true that is but it sounds fairly logical...

Your traffic (and new subscribers) seems to be decreasing every day.

DATE - VISITORS - NEW SUBSCRIBERS
11/15 - 329 - 32
11/14 - 399 - 38
11/13 - 498 - 46
11/12 - 428 - 47
11/11 - 552 - 56
11/10 - 597 - 61

You may want to try some different things (I promise I won't mention guest blogging... ups :p)
  • Try using Facebook to contact the site owners who didn't even answer you. I imagine that in many cases they have a FB page and that could be another way of getting in touch with them.
  • Use some tools to estimate the importance and the traffic of the sites (maybe not perfect but quite interesting for comparisons): Alexa, www.compete.com and SEMrush (or even Feed Compare if they use RSS).
  • Forget websites for some time and try ezines/newsletters.

Thanks!!!

My number of site visitors and subscribers are going down but once I create another article to send out to my list of publishers it will go back up again...but I won't be doing that for about another week...

Plus if I get more publishers in the meantime my traffic and subscribers will probably go back up...but there are no guarantees...

Moreover, Alexa and SEMrush are extremely misleading...I really don't trust their data whatsoever...

But regardless of all that I'm going to stay the course with what I'm doing...I appreciate you wanting to help but I think I'm doing pretty good...that and I made a promise to myself when this started and that was to focus on what I'm doing and not get sidetracked by other things...

And I'm still going to continue to focus on websites but at the same time contact ezines/newsletters when I come across them when looking for websites to contact...

Again I appreciate your wanting to help and the feedback you're giving...I'm certain that others will take your advice and run with it...but for now I'm just going to continue with what I'm doing...
