Sorry for not replying sooner...

I think that most of the ones that do reply back to my emails actually take the time to read my article because they usually say that they like my article BUT...

They want "unique" content, aren't interested in using "outside content" or they're concerned about duplicate content (which often leads them to say that they want "unique" content)...

Regardless of the reason if they don't want to use my content I can't force them...although I will continue to contact them in the future until they tell me to STOP contacting them...

It's hard for me answer whether I've noticed a difference because almost from the very beginning I've submitted my articles to Ezinearticles right away as opposed to contacting all the sites I want to contact and THEN submitting my articles to Ezinearticles...

But if I had to guess I think that building a portfolio of articles inside of Ezinearticles has definitely helped in getting website owners to say 'yes,' in particular the website owners I've contacted via snail mail...but I'm only guessing...

As for your 2nd question...

For now I just email website owners using a Yahoo account that I set up and use specifically to contact and reply to website owners.

Today I made 3 sales of product #1 for a total of $53.94 and which pushes my grand total to $2639.15...and I now have 110 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 3 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 1 visitor to my site

- 3rd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 5 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 28 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 17th website = 9 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 233 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 16 visitors to my site

And of the 312 visitors to my site today 29 subscribed...

Today site #18 published the 8th out of 9 articles they were interested in...so tomorrow they use the last article they were interested in...

As for what I accomplished today...I created 2 new messages for both lists...I'm still working on the new article but I expect it to be finished by some time tomorrow...kind of struggling with the article right now...

Moreover, I created an article for fellow warrior Brian Owens' IM site...the article is a bit rough around the edges and ordinarily I would've spent more time on refining it but I didn't want to keep him waiting after promising him I'd have it finished yesterday...but the article can be found here:

$2,500 & Counting From Article Marketing Challenge | BrianOwens.Biz

I'll be linking to the article in my OP so that people new to the thread can get a summary of what this thread and my journey has entailed...

Anyway, didn't get a whole lot done because I was stuck on the new article...I even tried to go back to the article that I said I'd work on at a later date because I really like the idea behind the article it would just be a difficult and time consuming article to complete because of the research involved...

Furthermore, I've decided to send out 10 more snail mail letters to website owners I've contacted in the past but gotten no response from...I'm thinking of doing snail mail for more often since I can now invest some of the money I've made into postage for the letters...

Moreover, going through this thread earlier in the day reminded me of some of the tips that fellow warriors provided for finding new websites to contact so I'm going to start implementing some of the ideas I never got around to using to find new websites to contact...

Not a very productive day but I didn't exactly spend my time goofing off...I just can't seem to concentrate on my article writing and I'm having a bit of writer's block...either that or I'm being overly critical of the articles I'm working on...

Thanks for the article too!

I didn't realize you posted your articles to the EZ directories first and then sent messages to webmasters. What percentage of traffic would you say you get from EZ directories as opposed to people's blogs (other webmasters you contact for syndication)?

Also, how much time do you spend on this each day?

Thanks

Yesterday I really tried to complete the new article I was working on that's a bit more research-based and work than I initially thought it would be...I finally just decided to work on the article at a later date and to start an article on a different (and "easier" topic)...

However, I put off starting the new article because I decided to work on an article that I had been promising a fellow warrior I would get to him...won't go into detail about what it's about...but that's when I got interrupted by my boyfriend's friend dropping in unexpectedly with his girlfriend to visit...

And that's when we all decided to go out to dinner and from their we went to the casino...it was a fun night but we didn't get back til really late...

Anyway, it's amazing to me that before I was doing well with this it seemed I had very few distractions and now I've got more distractions coming at me than I once had before...but today regardless of what's going on I'm going to get a lot of work done...including the new article AND the article I promised a fellow warrior yesterday but didn't deliver on...
Congratulations on this remarkable feat. My question is how were you able to differentiate buyers from non-buyers as an affiliate? How did you get those who bought through your affiliate link unto a buyers' list? I use to think only clickbank vendors can do that.

I get very little in the way of direct traffic from EZ...which is a good thing because I don't want potential subscribers/customers finding the EZ versions of my articles...I think it would hurt conversions honestly but I could be wrong.

As for how many hours I put in each day...it varies depending on what I'm doing...there's been a few days where I don't do anything and still make sales...there's other days where I'm having a hard time completing an article and it takes 8 hours for me to finish the article just the way I want it...

In the very beginning when I was setting everything up...my websites, the autoresponder series, creating content, etc. I was working 6-10 hours a day...

Now I work between 3-6 hours per day depending on what I'm doing...but on the days I'm creating a new article for syndication it's typically longer...

So it varies...and someone whose more experienced than me probably could have what I'm doing done in half the time so it would also vary from person-to-person.

I've mentioned this in the thread already but I'll copy and paste my answer here:

Another quick question for you. From reading through this thread and you previous one, I see that it looks like you offer your list a "freebie" if they purchase product #1.

Are you just saying in your review of product #1, If you purchase product #1 through my link, I'll give you such and such "freebie report"? Then if they send you their recipe from CB you email them the report and manually add them to your buyers list?

Glad you are still keeping this thread going even though you've hit your goal. Maybe it is time to set another goal?

-Tom

Yep...I just mention that if they buy product #1 that they can sign up to get the "bonus report" and other premium/special information on a regular basis...the bonus report really is just kind of mentioned as kind of an afterthought and not a hard sell/push to get the bonus report after purchasing product #1...

And believe it or not I don't manually send the bonus report...so actually a person could enter in a fake receipt # and their email address and they would get the bonus report lol...

The reason why I did it this way is because after reading fellow warrior MYOB's experience with doing it that way and how rare it is for someone to get on his buyer's list who hasn't purchased the product he promoted I figured my experience would be similar and it has been...no 1 is on my buyers' list who shouldn't be...

In the beginning I was checking to see if it would be an issue and it hasn't been...and worst case scenario I can either remove the subscriber off the buyer's list if I do discover they've entered a fake receipt # or I can leave them on the list in the hopes that they buy product #2 (it's unlikely they'll buy product #2 since they wouldn't buy product #1 so more than likely I would just remove them from the buyer's list)...

Also, the other reason why I chose to do it this way is because I really don't want to get in the habit of manually having to deliver bonuses to subscribers on future lists in future niches I may be in...

Anyway, your post reminds me that I can remedy this by getting CB List Automator...it supposedly is a program I can install on my website in conjunction with Aweber to automate the process of verifying whether receipt #s are legit and once it determines that it automatically delivers the bonus to that person...

I've been meaning to email the vendor of CB List Automator to ask him if he still supports the product...no sense in buying something that either isn't available anymore or will have issues that I can't get help with...

Today I made 5 sales of product #1 and 1 sale of product #2 for a total of $157.39 in commissions and which boosts my grand total to $2850.48...and I now have 118 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 5 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 22 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 9 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 271 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 38 visitors to my site

And of the 372 visitors to my site today 39 subscribed...

Today website #19 published 1 of my articles...they will be publishing the last article on Wednesday.

As for what I accomplished today...I created 2 new messages for both autoresponder series...I emailed 30 new sites today...I sent off the 10 letters via snail mail today...and I'll be finishing up the article I've been working on...it's taking longer than expected but it's shaping up to be an article I think most of my publishers will use...

Furthermore, I got a reply from a website owner that I emailed over the weekend who wants to use a few of my articles in their weekly online newsletter...they want to use 4 of my articles to be exact and they're newsletter is sent out every Monday...

They will start using my articles beginning on December 1st...and they have a subscriber list of 11K+ that is continuously growing according to the website owner...

So that makes the 2nd website owner that wants to use my articles after Thanksgiving.

Moreover, I answered a couple of emails from site visitors/subscribers...but 1 stuck out in particular because once I replied to their questions they replied back saying that they really appreciated me taking the time to answer their questions...

I think by answering this particular person's questions it helped me to get 1 of the 5 sales of product #1 that I got today.

I'm really starting to see the "power" of being responsive/available to my site visitors/subscribers...in the past I never really made being available to answer the questions of my site visitors/subscribers a priority...in fact I try to put as little emphasis on my contact information as possible but now I'm realizing that that was a mistake.

Also, before I forget I answered a few PMs from some fellow warriors and 1 in particular reminded me to pass along a tip to product vendors...

POWER TIP:

If you're a product vendor you can get websites/blogs to say 'yes' to syndicating your articles by allowing them to have their own affiliate link of your product in the resource box...this way you make sales of your product as a vendor and you also have the chance to build a buyers' list this way...

So for product vendors that allow affiliates to promote their product(s) they might have an easier time of getting webmasters to say 'yes' to syndicating their articles if they allow webmasters to make a commission off their products...definitely worth trying/testing as a product vendor...

Britlenc you should really be proud of your achievements. I've followed your progress from the $500 challenge, and i must say you are a goal getter and really breaking barriers here. You are looking set to surpass the $3000 mark by 1st of december, and that will be 2 times your set goal. Your thread has been a tremendious blessing to me and i might be going this route in the nearest future.

I placed the new article on my site before I went to bed last night and it's already been indexed...

However, I think that I will hold off on sending the new article to my publishers and submitting it to EZA until after Thanksgiving...I assume that there won't be much interest in doing anything with my articles until after Thanksgiving anyway...

And that's why I've also decided to resume emailing website owners until after Thanksgiving...

In the meantime, I went back to the article that I was having a hard time with as far as research and writing it in such a way that it didn't sound like a research paper...I worked on it some today and I'll be dedicating myself to working on it tomorrow as well...hopefully it will be ready right after Thanksgiving.

brittlesnc - just found this thread, it is amazing, and you are amazing. I don't know how many times I have seen threads like this that start with great ambition and disappear after a couple weeks. They either can't stick to it or the burden of their goals weighs them down.

You have also been an inspiration. You are living proof that focusing on one project, and doing it well can make a difference. A lot of us IMers tend to bounce around between a dozen different projects and never really get that focus. Thanks!

Well done on this. You've taken it from nothing and turned it into $3,000 (well, you're going to have $3k by Dec 1 ).

I'll keep my eye on this, and why don't you try to turn that $3,000 into $5,000 in time for Christmas? Considering how well your November has gone, I'm sure you can do it!

Perhaps then you can try branching out into other forms of marketing, and start promoting more products to really grow those sales and work that list!

You've also made me think about what I'm going to do when I finally get round to starting my affiliate business. Maybe I'll do the same as you here, and post it all up as a challenge to myself

Brittany,

Thank you again for your inspiring updates. When you mention the bonus they can get if they purchase product 1 is that something you write on your review page ? Do you also mention it in the newsletter you send and on other pages of your site? I know you said you don't really "sell" in the autoresponder series itself. Do you supply a link for them to enter information so they opt-in to the 2nd list?

Also, when you write in your summary that you added another message to your series does that mean you also added a new page to your site as well?

Such a great thread!

Debbie

Yes I mention the bonus on the review page for product #1...

And I've just merely "mentioned" the bonus in a couple of emails...and I'm thinking of maybe rewording a couple of those emails where I don't mention the bonus...

I see the bonus as being just that "a bonus" and not the main "selling" point of product #1...or should I say "pre-selling"...

And I do link to the buyers' list website from the the product #1 review page...the buyers' list site is set up the same way as the freebie site...a content-rich site with a large opt-in at the top of the homepage and a small opt-in in the site-wide right sidebar...

On the review page for product #1 it's briefly explained at the very end of the review that once they purchase product #1 that they should follow the link to the buyers' site to enter in their email address and the receipt no. from the purchase of product #1 to collect their bonus...

Of course they could enter in a fake receipt no. and still collect the bonus without purchasing product #1 since I don't manually give the bonus BUT thus far I haven't had an issue with someone getting the bonus who hasn't purchased product #1...

In fact, I've had a few people purchase product #1 and not claim their bonus...so there are a few people missing from my buyers' list...

Which reminds me that I'm going to try contacting the product vendor for CB List Automator 1 more time to see if they still support the product...

I think that they do because a couple of months prior to starting this challenge I emailed them with a question and they answered...I'm only emailing as of late just to be certain they still support the product...

Anyway, in the beginning when I was creating new messages I would at the same time create a new page for my site but now I find myself linking to existing content more often than creating a new page on my site...

I'd say about 70% of my current messages also had a unique page that the messages link to while the remaining 30% of messages just link to a preexisting page as opposed to me creating a brand new page on my website for those particular messages...

As time goes on I'll create less and less new pages on my site that autoresponder messages link to...it would be pretty difficult to create that much content since I want my autoresponder series to have at least 1 year worth of messages before repeating...

And with messages going out every 4 days that means for a year's worth of messages would be about 90 messages...and if each 1 of those messages had to have a unique corresponding webpage I would need 90 pages for those 90 messages...that would be tough...

That figure of 70/30 is for my freebie site...for my buyers' list site it's more like 40/60...I recycle/reuse content quite a bit more on my site for my buyers' list...but I'll be doing the same with the freebie site as well as I add more messages to the autoresponder...

Do you supply a link for them to enter information so they opt-in to the 2nd list?

Also, when you write in your summary that you added another message to your series does that mean you also added a new page to your site as well?

Such a great thread!

Today I made 2 sales of product #1 for a total of $35.96 which brings me to a grand total of $2940.38 and I now have 123 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 2 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 0 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 0 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 8 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 5 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 167 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 11 visitors to my site

And of the 212 visitors to my site today 22 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished...really very little...I worked a little on that article I've had difficulty with...but mostly I answered PMs from warriors and I answered a few emails...that and I surfed around the WF off and on all day long...

Tomorrow's stats won't be posted until Friday morning or afternoon most likely.

As it gets closer to December 1st I find myself thinking back on this journey and being so glad that I finally picked 1 thing to focus on...gave it my best effort and not some half @ss attempt like I've always done in the past...and now I can't believe the result I've gotten...

Sure there was a bit of luck in picking the right strategy and making myself see it through even when I didn't reach my 1st goal of $500 by October 1st...but what I attribute most to my success was focus, getting a meaningful amount of work done (for a change), and actually putting more emphasis on quality content that's actually useful and interesting to people...

But when December 1st gets here I've decided to stop with the updates...I'll still answer questions in the thread but I've taken the challenge thread as far as I want to take it...

Plus if people want to pursue article syndication there's enough information in my thread and in posts by warriors like Alexa Smith, MYOB, JohnMcCabe, and tpw to take and run with.

There's still apart of me that's wondering if I can improve and/or maintain what I've accomplished thus far several months down the road...a year even...only time will tell but I'm going to step it up in my current niche and eventually branch out into other niches...

So although this won't be my last post it will be 1 of my last update posts...

But again I'll still be on the WF to answer questions when I can...that and to surf (and probably waste) a lot of time on reading threads that don't even relate to what I'm doing...I can't help myself...I'm kind of addicted to the WF...this place is so awesome...

My only regret is not getting started on taking serious action with article syndication a couple of years ago when I was first reading about it...

Haha, no time is wasted reading the warriorforum, this thread proves that.

Mybe you could update for use just once a week? Myself, and im guessing a few others will like to see how this works for you (and potentially others) in the long term

I might would be willing to do a weekly update...but I wouldn't want to do that for months on end either...I'll give it some thought...

As for the 0 sales...I was kind of expecting it since it was Thanksgiving...would've been nice though to get at least 1 sale...:p

I made 1 sale today of product #1 for $17.98 in commissions which brings my grand total to $2958.36 and I now have 124 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 2 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 1 visitor to my site

- 3rd website = 1 visitor to my site

- 4th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 13th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 5 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 6 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 138 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 4 visitors to my site

And of the 178 visitors to my site today 20 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished...I'm almost done with the article I've been having a really hard time completing...I've decided to hold off sending my 2 articles to my publishers until Monday...and I'll also send emails on Monday to the 2 website owners who wanted to use my content after Thanksgiving...

So although I didn't accomplish a lot today I still feel happy about the work I did on this 2nd more "difficult" article...it should be done before I go to bed tonight or at the very latest tomorrow morning...

I hope sales start to pick up over the weekend...which I expect it will...maybe not 3+ sales per day like before since I'm not getting nearly as much traffic and subscribers...but it would be nice if it did...

Brittany,

I hope you are having a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. I had a question about the way you send a link to publishers when you send your first article (and subsequent ones). I know you said you put the article in the e-mail. Do you at the very end put in your domain as http:// or do you use <a href= or just put it in like MyDomain . com . (Note I put in a space so it wouldn't hyperlink). I know various e-mail programs are different but if someone copies/pastes it from e-mail and then puts the article in their webpage than it probably won't be a clickable link. Do you ask them to make it clickable?

This thread will be here for so many to study and it has such great lessons both in syndication, but also in focus and persistence.

Debbie

Why? All the information you could need is in this thread and the other one.

@brittlesnc: let us know how it's gone I want to know if you made it to $3k!

Definitely inspirational, and you gave me some great ideas/pushes in the right direction.

Kudos to you!

I use the http:// version of my domain...and so far I haven't had any problems with it not being a clickable link...

But if it weren't clickable on their site I would just ask if it could be a clickable link in the resource box...I don't think any of my publishers would have a problem with that...

Thanks for the well wishes...

I think I might go another week with this thread just to let people know how it's going for me once the Thanksgiving holiday euphoria has completely passed...

I'll probably go another week updating this thread but after that probably not...but I will still be around to answer questions if need be...

As for a WSO...definitely not interested in doing that lol...:p

BudaBrit is right...the vast majority of what you need to know is in this thread...some of the minor details you may have to figure out but that's what being your own boss is all about...thinking and making decisions for yourself with only a limited amount of information...

But if you want more information again 2 ebooks I can recommend are 'Turn Words Into Traffic'...I can personally vouch for this ebook since I own...however, this ebook is more about writing articles that are good enough for syndication than it is about what to do after the content has been created...

The other ebook is 'The Content System' by Paul Myers...I don't own this 1 but a lot of warriors who do article marketing/syndication highly recommend it...

So if you feel that you need more information about article syndication those are 2 ebooks you might want to consider getting...

- 16th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 101 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 6 visitors to my site

And of the 143 visitors to my site today 13 subscribed...

As for what I accomplished today...I created 2 new autoresponder messages for both of my lists...I finally completed the "difficult" article and I hope it will be worth all the effort I put into it because it will be annoying to say the least if none of my publishers are interested in it...

And today I heard from 1 of the websites that I contacted via email...unfortunately they were only interested in using my content on their site if it was "unique" content...however, they're planning on starting an online newsletter and they're thinking they could use my content for that...

They weren't real concrete on when they'd be starting their online newsletter but they said it will be within the next week or so...plus they weren't sure which articles of mine that they wanted to use as of yet but it sounds like they want to use most of them.

Not certain if I'll get any traffic though since they're just starting the newsletter but they did mention that they're site gets 15K+ unique visitors per month on average so hopefully a lot of those visitors decide to sign up for the newsletter...

I've decided that I'll update everyone with what's going on until December 8th but after that I'll be available for questions about my strategy and that's about it...

My apologies for people who want me to keep going but I want to kind of keep my results to myself from that point on for privacy reasons and so forth...thanks again for following my thread and to those who gave me advice/tips and encouragement along the way.

As for what I accomplished today...I created 2 new messages for both autoresponder series...tonight I emailed my publishers both articles so hopefully this week there will be some takers...and instead of reminding the 2 website owners who wanted to use my content after Thanksgiving on Monday I sent them a "reminder" email today...

So hopefully starting this week I will see a boost in traffic to my site...

Hi Brittlesnc,

First of all thank you for your thread and for answering questions. It is much appreciated.

I have a couple of my own now that you are at the end of your personal challenge:

1- Would you say that Article Marketing Syndication basically boils down to asking other people if they would post your stuff on their blogs? (The other stuff you do; article writing and autoresponder and sales stuff is common to people who use SEO or PPC or Social Media etc. as well so I'm asking in terms of traffic generation.)

2- What's the purpose, in your opinion, of posting to article directories if they don't give much traffic?

3- Are you concerned about the fact that most of the websites you list in your updates deliver almost no hits? (Alexa Smith talked about a 'flood' of traffic to her sites when speaking about AM).

4- After this successful experiment of yours, can you see your Article Marketing business working long term? Meaning can you see that it can be scaled up enough to make full time income from it. $3k is amazing for a start but not enough to live comfortable on.

Thanks in advance and congrats again for reaching your goal!

That's basically what article marketing/syndication is...but don't discount the fact that your content needs to be fairly compelling or you won't be very successful with article marketing.

The purpose is so that webmasters can find your content and place it on their website...that was the original purpose of article directories before IMers came in and misused and abused article directories...:p

A couple of the current sites that publish my content found me through EZA...

No I'm not concerned...I knew going into this that some site would deliver very little traffic but if you get enough of those sites delivering traffic to your site it adds up...

And Alexa Smith gets "flooded" with traffic because she's in different niches than me AND she's better at AM than me lol...:p

I'm very new to AM/AS (article syndication) where as Alexa I think has been doing it for 4 or more years...so I don't expect to be at her level anytime soon...

But for someone whose getting sites that "deliver almost no traffic" I think I'm doing okay...

Personally for me I can see it working long term...I can't really speak for anyone else...but I don't have psychic capabilities so I can't guarantee that it will work over the long term...but I'll continue to do it as long as it continues to work...

And as far as $3K not being enough to comfortably live on...it depends on where you live and your lifestyle...$3K for me is fine...can't live extravagantly or even all that comfortable but it definitely helps...

That and I don't intend to just work with this 1 site nor even stay in 1 niche...all of the most successful article marketers that I know on the WF are in multiple niches with multiple sites...

Although I think it is possible to make a good living off of 1 site that isn't my plan or goal...

Moreover, I think what some people are looking for is something that is guaranteed to work...sorry but I can't even make that guarantee for myself let alone anyone else because as with everything else in IM it depends...

1. It depends on the niche your in...AM is better suited for some niches than others...

2. AM depends a lot on your talent and ability as a writer...if you're not a good writer or you can't outsource the writing to a good writer than AM is NOT going to work for you...

3. There's a bit of luck involved as far as finding the right webmasters to say 'yes' to syndicating your content...most people get discouraged when a handful of webmasters say 'no'...try having a few hundred say 'no' lol :p

People need patience, persistence and even a thick skin to do AM because there will be a lot of rejection...at least that's been my experience...

4. Even if you get AM right as a traffic generation method you still have to do everything else decent enough to see any money coming in, i.e., getting subscribers, keeping those subscribers opening your emails and ultimately buying through you, selling/promoting related things to those subscribers successfully, etc.

Setting up your marketing/sales funnel is a feat in and of itself so if this isn't set up decently to start with you're AM efforts will be wasted anyway...

As it stands I've had 1600+ subscribers on my list (including the people who are now on my buyers' list) BUT I've only been able to convert about 130 of them into buyers...that's less than a 10% sales conversion rate...so I've obviously got some serious work to do to improve that figure...

So my point is...if you're looking for an easy, predictable, and/or automatic way to get traffic you MIGHT have better luck with PPC or other forms of paid traffic generation...although I know those aren't necessarily easy...but once you get the hang of it the traffic is automatic and becomes fairly predictable...maybe even easy...

However, AM isn't easy (although it is simple and I think it gets easier with time), predictable, or automatic...at least not in my opinion...

Apologies for the long post and getting up on my "soapbox" but I just want people to know that AM takes work and effort...and that it isn't necessarily the easiest traffic generation method to make work but it works for me and for me that's good enough for now....

Thanks for the reply and no apologies needed for the long reply. I loved it.

One thing you mentioned stood out for me: "AM depends a lot on your talent and ability as a writer."

Everything else you mentioned about hard work, patience, persistence, thick skin etc... I have. I am good with the English language, educated and am good at teaching people things. But putting an article together that educates, flows, entertains and (as Alexa puts it) 'has laughs in all the right places' is not so easy. I'll have to work on that before/while I work on everything else.

Thanks again.

Keep in mind that Alexa's suggestion of being entertaining and having 'laughs in all the right places' is only a suggestion...your content can be provocative, weird, offbeat, or anything else that keeps it from being boring...avoid boring at all costs!

For example, most people in the 'get ripped' niche will write articles entitled:

- 10 Ways to Get Ripped
- How to Get Ripped
- Top 10 Exercises for Getting Ripped

Articles like the ones above are a dime a dozen and have been done to death...

But if you make it a bit more interesting or provocative then you not only separate yourself from the crowd but you ultimately get more attention as well...

More interesting articles will always get more attention:

- How to Get Ripped in Your Dorm Room Without Weights
- How a 60 Year Old Man Got More Ripped Than Most 20 Year Olds
- 10 Ways to Get a Body That Would Make Vin Diesel Jealous

Do you see how the 3 titles that I just mentioned above are a lot more interesting than the first 3 mentioned...the content could still even be virtually the same but just presented in a more interesting way...presentation is key!

Obviously you still have to include accurate and informative information so you can ultimately be seen as an "expert" or at least someone who is competent BUT that doesn't mean you have to be dull...

Today I made 6 sales of product #1 for a total of $107.88 and which brings my grand total to $3205.65...and I now have 134 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 39 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 3 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 11 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 119 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 15th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 96 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 5 visitors to my site

- 20th website (wants to use 8 of my articles) = 28 visitors to my site

- 21st website (has a subscriber list of 11K+) = 134 visitors to my site

And of the 453 visitors to my site today 41 subscribed...

Here's the break down of whose publishing what:

1st website published 1 of my articles today and will be using the other article tomorrow...

2nd website will be using 1 of my articles tomorrow but isn't interested in the other article that was difficult for me to complete...

3rd website wants to use my article that I had a hard time completing and will publish it tomorrow...

4th website wants to use the 1st article I completed (the less difficult article) and will publish it tomorrow...

5th website wants to use the 2nd article (the difficult 1) tomorrow...

6th website wants to use both of my articles and they will publish 1 on Wednesday and the 2nd article on Thursday...

7th website hasn't gotten back to me on what articles they want to use...

8th website is interested in both articles and will publish 1 article tomorrow and the 2nd article on Wednesday...

9th website was only interested in 1 of my articles and published it to their site today...

10th website didn't get back to me...

11th website wasn't interested in using either article...

12th website owner was interested in my 2nd "well-researched" article and instead of putting it on some obscure, out of the way page on his site like he did before with 2 of my articles he's going to put it on his he's going to put it on his homepage on Wednesday...

13th website wants to use both of my articles and published 1 today and will publish the 2nd article tomorrow...

14th website wants to use both of my articles starting tomorrow and will publish the 2nd article the following day...

15th website will be using both my articles in their weekly online newsletter...1 article tomorrow and the 2nd article next Tuesday...

16th website isn't interested in using either 1 of my articles this time for their email autoresponder series...but they were very polite in declining my 2 articles and said that they're still interested in my articles if it's content they feel they can use...

17th website wants to use 1 of my articles but won't publish it until Wednesday...

18th website published 1 of my articles today and will publish the 2nd article tomorrow...

19th website wants to use 1 of my articles but won't publish it until Wednesday...

20th website is new and the owner published the 1st of 8 articles of mine that he's interested in using today on their site (to include my 2 most recent articles)...

21st website is also new...they published 1 of 4 articles their interested in using in their weekly online newsletter that goes out every Monday today...they're sticking with the initial 4 that they were interested in using and they're not interested in my 2 most recent articles...

The above was definitely hard to keep track of and type for the purpose of this post...a little bit confusing...

Anyway, as for what I accomplished I created 2 new messages for both lists...I answered a few questions from site visitors/subscribers...I also answered some PMs that I got on the WF...and I responded to some emails from my publishers...

Not a very productive day but my sales are back up, I added 2 new publishers to my network and another will be added in the "next week or so" when they start up their online newsletter...so I'm still very happy with the results of today.

Brittany,

It looks like you had a very good response from the two new articles you sent to your publishers and that some will be publishing one or both later this week. I was struck by the details of the interactions. Do you ask them if and when they plan on using the articles or do they just volunteer that information due to your relationships with them?

When you send over the new articles do you customize each e-mail suggesting why their readers might be interested in the article specifically? I think you will be seeing great results this week as some are publishing the articles later in the week and congratulations on adding on two more publishers.

Debbie

I ask them when they intend to publish 90% of the time lol...:p

Doesn't seem to bother them but if it did I'm certain they'd let me know...plus even if they didn't tell me I have Google Alerts set up for each article so that when someone publishes 1 of my articles I get a Google Alert...

That's how I found out my articles were used via Ezinearticles...

And yes I do a bit of customization for the emails with the articles I send out to my publishers...but I don't tell them why I think their readers will be interested I say why the publisher/webmaster might be interested in the content...don't want to come across as someone who feels that I know their readers as well as they do, i.e., I don't want to come across as arrogant...

Moreover, I think I'll be seeing some pretty good results this week as well...

I need to get back to work as far as finding new publishers but it's getting a bit difficult to find publishers since it seems I've emailed most of the better potential outlets...but I'm going to keep digging...

Today I made 6 sales of product #1 and 1 sale of product #2 for a total of $175.37 in commissions and which boosts my grand total to $3381.02...and I now have 140 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 54 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 12 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 9 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 13 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 32 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 35 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 8 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 17 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 143 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 27 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 219 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 121 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 2 visitors to my site

- 20th website = 41 visitors to my site

- 21st website = 91 visitors to my site

And of the 830 visitors to my site today 74 subscribed...

Websites #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #8, #10, #13, #14, #15, #18, and #20 published 1 of my articles today on either their website or in their online newsletter...

Site #10 published 1 of my articles today without even letting me know so I don't know if he's interested in the 2nd article but if not that's fine...and website #7 got back to me and said that they're not interested in publishing either 1 of my articles at this time...

Anyway, as for what I accomplished today...it wasn't much...spent entirely too much time watching videos on YouTube...but I did manage to send out 20+ emails to new website owners...I took the time to respond to a few comments left on my articles that were published on my publishers' sites...and I responded to a few emails from site visitors/subscribers...

What I'm going to do first thing tomorrow is create a new page on my site...a 'Frequently Asked Questions' page (FAQ page)...because some of the questions I keep getting from my site visitors/subscribers are generally the same questions just worded a little differently...

And I think I'll just refer people that ask those commonly asked questions to the FAQ page...I might even make reference to that page in my autoresponder series as well...not certain yet...

Anyway, today was a very good day for sales...my highest day for sales to date!

Aha! Told ya you would get a flood of traffic!

I had a couple of questions, Brittany. I was wondering if you would answer them for me.

1. Do you use any sort of popup/Unpop thing to get your subs? You seem to be converting at 8%-10% (usually). Any tips for us listbuilding newbs?

2. How much content do you have on your actual blog? Do you get any traffic from search engines? Is your ONLY source of traffic AS?

Thanks! I'm sorry if these have already been asked.

Some of what you're asking has been covered in other posts throughout this thread so you should go back through the thread and read some of those posts when you get the time but I'll briefly answer your questions...

1. I don't use popups or anything of the kind...I can say for certain how good or bad they are but I don't like them...I find them to be annoying and a big turnoff so I don't plan on using them...

My tip would be to read as many posts by warriors like Alexa Smith, JohnMcCabe and Shaun O'Reilly as you can about email marketing...I like their style when it comes to email marketing and each 1 of them has some very useful tips...

2. I have 14 posts (these are the articles I've used for syndication) and I have about 50+ pages of content besides those 14 articles...but this is over the course of almost 3 months...and this is on my site geared toward my "freebie list"...

My site geared toward my buyers' list has 5 posts and about 30+ pages of content besides the 5 articles I have as posts...

As for search engine traffic, I'm getting a little bit of traffic from the search engines...over the course of 3 months I've gotten about a little over 100 unique visitors but mostly from Bing and Yahoo...only a handful of those 100+ unique visitors have been from Google...

And yes...for now my only source of traffic has been from AS with the exception of that little bit of search engine traffic...

I guess there are only so many sites that can accept you, because there are only so many that exist.

Probably why people have multiple niches.

Just a guess.

Today I made 5 sales of product #1 for a total of $89.90 in commissions and which gives me a grand total of $3470.92...and I now have 145 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 46 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 11 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 7 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 15 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 29 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 6 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 27 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 66 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 117 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 39 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 162 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 1 visitor to my site

- 17th website = 24 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 92 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 31 visitors to my site

- 20th website = 56 visitors to my site

- 21st website = 74 visitors to my site

And of the 873 visitors to my site today 78 subscribed...

Websites #6, #8, #10, #12, #14, #17, #19, and #20 published 1 of my articles today directly on their website...

As for what I accomplished today...I created the FAQ page I mentioned I was going to create last night...I created 2 new autoresponder messages for both lists...I emailed 20+ new websites...and I responded to a few comments on my articles posted on other sites...most were positive and a few were a little critical...

Got a few email responses from the new websites I contacted yesterday...but no one was interested or a couple wanted "unique content"...so I put them on the "unique content" list I have just in case in the future I decide I'll guest blog with "unique content."

Thinking of maybe sending out another 10 snail mail letters to website owners I've contacted in the past but didn't get any kind of response from...but I did notice that with the last 10 I sent out I didn't get as good of a response...hopefully the next 10 get a better response...

Moreover, tomorrow I'm going to focus on sending out "reconnection" emails...especially to websites that I contacted in the past but didn't think to mention of using my content in their email marketing...

Got a few replies from previous emails I sent to website owners...but none were interested in syndicating my articles...and as usual the ones who wanted "unique" content I put on my "unique" content list so if in the future I do decide to provide "unique" content I can contact those webmasters who expressed interest...

In a few days (December 8th) I'll stop providing updates about my results...I think that this thread has served it's purpose in helping me to get started, stay focused, get encouragement and to get tips...and it has also helped other people along the way which is also a VERY good thing...

I know that I keep going back and forth about what I'm going to do after I'm done posting updates...I go back forth between putting ALL of my focus on my current sites OR creating new sites in the same niche targeting different demographics...

I think I've settled on focusing ALL of my attention on my current sites/lists and getting them optimized and performing as good as they possibly can before moving onto creating new sites/lists...

Brittany,

When the updates end on Sunday, this will feel like the tearful goodbye at the end of the movie ET! So, I will try to get in a few questions.

Do you know if people have been purchasing product number one thirty or sixty days after their initial joining of your list? Maybe you aren't able to track things like that as I'm curious as some people say that the majority of sales will occur within first month. Do you know what the unsubscribe rate is after first month?

If it is low, that shows you really are good at capturing their interest. Do you do a combination of showing the pain points of their existing problem(s) and showing solutions? I've learned so much from these updates and your details.

Debbie

I love the movie E.T. it was my favorite movie as a kid.

As far as when people purchase product #1...it seems that most of my buyers' list purchased product #1 within 30 days but there have been a decent number of people that buy beyond that 30 day range...

My unsubscribe rate is a little under 2%...

And I do a combination of pointing out their "pain points" and giving just pieces of the solutions...but pieces that kind of leave out the details/finer points of the solution...

As some IMers say 'you don't want to give away the farm'...

Today I made 4 sales of product #1 and 2 sales of product #2 (that's a 1st ) for a total of $206.90 in commissions today and that boosts my grand total to $3785.70...and I now have 155 subscribers on my buyers' list...

Today's stats:

- 1st website = 29 visitors to my site

- 2nd website = 5 visitors to my site

- 3rd website = 2 visitors to my site

- 4th website = 10 visitors to my site

- 5th website = 14 visitors to my site

- 6th website = 23 visitors to my site

- 7th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 8th website = 33 visitors to my site

- 9th website = 4 visitors to my site

- 10th website = 17 visitors to my site

- 11th website = 0 visitors to my site

- 12th website = 44 visitors to my site

- 13th website = 71 visitors to my site

- 14th website = 25 visitors to my site

- 15th website = 68 visitors to my site

- 16th website = 3 visitors to my site

- 17th website = 12 visitors to my site

- 18th website = 43 visitors to my site

- 19th website = 18 visitors to my site

- 20th website = 69 visitors to my site

- 21st website = 37 visitors to my site

- 22nd website (published 1 of my articles from Ezinearticles) = 11 visitors to my site

And of the 538 visitors to my site today 54 subscribed...

Website #20 and new site #22 were the only sites to publish 1 of my articles to their sites today...the new site found 1 of my articles through EZA and published their site...I contacted them today about using more of my articles but I haven't gotten a response yet...

As for what I got done today...I responded to some comments on my articles...had a little friendly debate on 1 of the sites that published my article...I replied to an email from a subscriber which I know is what led to a sale for product #2 ...sent out 20+ "reconnection" emails...and sent off the 10 snail mail letters today...

Not a whole lot accomplished today...

I also got some replies to emails I've sent to websites and it was the usual about not being interested or wanting "unique" content...and the "unique" content people went onto the list of websites that want "unique" content...

Happy about my highest day for commissions though!
