Battle for the Most Profitable niche site.

I recently challenged Tung Tran from CloudLivingJourney.com to a friendly competition. And after a little back and forth discussion he accepted my challenge!

Many people have already heard of the Niche Site Duel, but unlike that project, we want to target the exact same keyword.

Our goal is to create a more profitable niche site than the other person (given the exact same keyword).

Throughout the project we're hoping that we will be able to help ourselves and others understand different ways of building niche sites and how they can be profitable.

My question to the forum is, what do you think we can do to make this project the best experience possible?

Here are some of the things that we will be monitoring for this challenge:

- Sub keyword research
- Site structure
- Backlinking
- Time spent on project
- Areas that are being outsourced
- What keywords traffic is coming from
- Conversion rates / Income
- Cost of creation

Is there anything that you feel we should definitely cover?

We're both posting about the challenge on our own blogs and it looks like it's being accepted well, but I could always use more ideas :)

Thanks!

how do you plan on not having the exact same backlinks? Wont this whole thing pretty much just come down to quality of content and luck?

Sorry, I must have missed this earlier. Thanks for the feedback. We won't be using the same backlinks. Quality of content will play a factor. But also site activity, optimization, and size will affect ranking as well. Also we'll be hoping to test conversions against each other.

sounds good... i know if I was doing it it would be hard to not to peek at the other guy's backlinks. :) I guess its niche-dependent but it seems like you guys still might get the same links incidentally...are you going for niche-specific links or doing the mass (I dont care as long as its a link) linkbuilding route? im hoping you're doing the former.... but that would make it tough to not use the same backlinks.

keep us updated...sounds pretty cool
thanks

I'll likely be using a combination of getting link backs from related blogs along with a private blog network. I'll share this info when the time comes to start linking. I won't be backlinking right away.

Awesome contest -- I'll join in, been trying to get my own site going for a long time now.

This sounds like great motivation.

Good luck mate.
