3 Character Domain is boggling me

Thanks all... first post!

I have the domain j7q.com that I bought for a project years ago to have the short version of "just7questions.com"... The project never took off for a number of reasons, and I still have this domain after many years. It's afternic assessed at 3k, but obviously I realize that would be under pretty ideal circumstances. I'd had some reasonable interest on flippa, and I've now included it here on freemarket.

I've had MANY opinions from people that told me they wouldn't pay 50 cents, to those that think it's in the thousands. Just looking for some general common sense, particularly from anyone who's worked with short character domains as to what I can expect if I really make a go at moving this...

Thanks, LB

The main thing that people mess up with when selling domains is that they try to value a domain instead of trying to find buyers. Add the domain to Flippa, Sedo, Godaddy Auctions and Afternic. Promote the domain for sale and see if you get any interested buyers.

Keep in mind that there isn't any real valuation of a domain name it's all guessing and trying to get close to the price you want. Don't over shoot the price or people will skip right over it.

      Thanks Clintin,

it took a while, but I evolved into this process by literally just reading, and finding forums like this and what people have done... I have it listed everywhere now and I realize that's really the only way this little domain will get to the right home.

One thing I wondered is, in your opinion, as I've had a vew flippa auctions and it's not quite where I want it to be, (but fair anyhow) - Is if I should just remove the reserve and hope for the best... Then most of my common sense kicks in and says "remember the time you bought that thing on ebay for next to nothing... "

Drawing attention is great, but potentially giving it away seems not great.

Keep in mind that a reserve is good to have if you don't want to get low balled for the domain name. Also keep in mind that you don't want to over price the reserve because the others might not see it being worth the same amount that you did.

Your goals for the domain name probably isn't the same as other buyers and j7q can't really be used for a lot of things. I would just try and get profit for it and let the domain go.

Thanks Antonio, that's a great suggestion. Are there any good general links to get me thinking about the type of monetizing I could do with this type of domain. I know there are many different types of directions to go for something like this.
