Grabbed a deleted domain, now what?

Hello everyone!

I noticed a good domain that was recently deleted and I immediately decided to buy it and see if I could sell it for more. The domain is SELFY.US and it's my first ever attempt at selling a domain name. I'm a complete newbie in this.

I have already put this up on Flippa and I even paid the $9 auction fee to get more exposure, however only 3 views so far and one of them is mine. Did I make a mistake by choosing Flippa?

I've also heard some horror stories where people sell their domain but end up with no money and no domain name. How does that work exactly and how do I protect myself from such schemes?

  • Not really a great domain.
  • Your mistake was in thinking a domain like that (or almost any domain, for that matter) would be an easy or inherently profitable flip.

For one thing, it is a misspelling. But even if it was spelled properly, it would be much better suited for development than a big sale.

Stay away from other people's brands or too-good-to-be-true kinds of domain sale prices, and you should be able to steer clear.
  • Thanks guys, but because it's my first flip, I'm not looking for big bucks. I'd sell it for $100 right now.

    • I doubt very much you would be able to sell this for more than the price of the actual registration price itself. Sorry! Albeit, it is relative to find a buyer who would die to get it, but then again it is a matter of finding it.
  • now you will drop it and someone else will buy this, and make same kind of thread in some similar forum..
  • Not the comments I was hoping for, but thanks for that anyhow. I don't think I'll drop it though, I can just put a blogger blog there and turn it into something. Just have to figure out what exactly :p
  • You can find soon-expired domains on www.expireddomains.net. That is my prefer site when need to choose a domain for tier 1 or tier 2 sites in SEO.
For Flippa, I do not ever try it. But for 9$ a domain that completedly fit with your needs, it is might be great price.
    Hope this helps.

    • thanks for this site, didnt knew till now.
  • I normally purchase from expired domains.net or godaddy. I then use the domain name, but if I decide to sell, I use Flippa. I just use the free ad. Most buyers though would like to see how much you have made from the site and how, some sort of set up with content, and traffic brought to the site. If it is a domain that has just been set up or purchased, it is harder to sell unless it is a great domain or fits exactly what the buyer wants for their website.

Did you consider that the domain was useless to the guy who registered it and purposely allowed it to expire?

    • Not only that.... but it wasn't even a .com
